I find it amusing that after rejecting a bunch of films that make southerners look like racists or hicks, all of the remaining selections (including the ones on your consideration list) portray them as criminals. :)

Mr. Hamrick

I will make a few suggestions here:

"In the Heat of the Night" . . . some might disagree with me but its a good movie.

"The Best Little Wh___ehouse in Texas" . . . I figured the title would be bleeped here so I did it myself.  It's a cute little comedy musical with Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds.  And one of the few musicals I don't mind sitting through.

Also, if you wanted something with a Confederate hero in it, may I suggest this little movie called "Cold Mountain".  You may have heard of it.  It had some Oscar nominations and Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for Rene Zellwegger, if I recall.

Oh, I forgot to mention one of the most Southern films ever - The Thing.

The Hitman

Soultaker is not awful. Just misunderstood. Read the sequal, Quietus, and... and...

(OK, you got me, it was pretty bad. I'm suprised anyone knows about it! However, Joe Estevez IS the best Estevez at low- budget horror flicks, I believe.)

Hmmm, southern films... wasn't Harvey set in the South?

Harvey, if I remember correctly, was set in he New York area. I believe the Dowd house is on Long Island, but it could have been in Brooklyn Heights. Need to dig that out and watch it...

A lot of terrible horror movies are set in the South... The Reaping, That One With Hate Hudson And The Voodoo People, um... That One With Tom Cruise's Ex-Wife Who Turns Out To Be A Ghost...

...

...yeah, I kinda suck at movie titles.
