Acclaimed writer Steve Gerber passed away today at the age of 60, after succumbing to his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Gerber is best known for creating Howard the Duck for Marvel Comics. He also had smaller successes with creations and books such as Omega the Unknown, Man-Thing, Foolkiller, Shanna the She-Devil, Legion of Knight (all created for Marvel Comics), Sludge (for Malibu/Ultraverse), Hard Time (for DC Comics), Nevada (for DC's Vertigo line) and had notable runs on other titles and characters. He was part of a group of comics professionals from the 1970s and early 1980s who brought a different creative sensibility to comics, often using satire and a more adult-oriented and personal (some would even say a tad semi-autobiographical) approach to inform their work on superheroes.

Now thats a shame.
He was still writing good stuff, and his 70's work was outstanding.

UnkoMan

Oh no, Gerber? That's a darn shame and a darn loss, that is.

Jakew

I really enjoyed Hard Time and Howard The Duck.  :(

Spitfire

Aww, I'm reading the new version of Omega the Unknown. This is a shame to hear.

The light of an other talent is extinguished. My hat is off to him.
