has anyone played the new Iron Man videogame demo on Xbox360?

I tried it out tonight, and I gotta say that even though I thought the game looked very promising (like Hulk Ultimate Destruction, only with Iron Man) I thought the demo was a very ho-hum, run of the mill movie-game tie-in. It seems to have pretty good presentation, but the game play was just...unimpressive to me.

I might have to rent it, or wait till it hits the bargain bins in 6 months. Has anyone else tried it out?

GhostMachine

Unfortunately, I can't afford a next-gen system, but I *may* get the PS2 version after its been out a while and I see some decent reviews. However, I am seriously ticked that the Silver Centurion suit is going to 360 exclusive when it originally seemed that it would be in all versions of the game and its my favorite suit of regular armor. PS3 and 360 getting exclusive armors I can live with; just wish the SC armor wasn't the 360 exclusive. (The less said about the Extremis armor, the better; the only suit of regular armor I dislike more is the S.K.I.N. armor, which fortunately isn't in the game - I don't count the crappy Teen Tony or Heroes Reborn armors as regular armor, since neither was worn by the real Tony Stark)

The Burned

I got Gta4 and the Iron Man game yesterday. And i think it just depends on what kind of Player you are. I ended up playing Iron Man all the time and rarely touched GTA. It took me some time to get used to the control but its just fine. granted, the gameplay is pretty linear, but its just too much fun to me flying around and beeing a one man army ;)
I really enjoy it and i am no Iron Man maniac (only read  the armor wars story line )

Mowgli

I enjoy the Iron Man game. The control of flying (and especially flying while firing) takes a little getting used to. Hovering is easy, but gets you shot up a bit. It is fun to zip around as Iron Man with his weapon systems. I think it's a very good game, but won't win any awards.

Also, for comic fans, there are some great references in the dialogue. Tony mentions that he might make it back in time for his evening with Ms. Rominov, and has a discussion with Whitney (Frost- Madame Masque) over his headset radio. Fun stuff.  ;)

AncientSpirit

I was interested in this game but am hesitant to get it because I'm hearing that there are "timed" missions where if you don't achieve X result in Y minutes, you can't progress in the game.

Any truth to this?

Sword

Not technically true. Those are "One Man Army" missions you unlock after completing certain story missions. Complete the goal in time, and unlock extra armors(Extremis, Classic, Silver Centurion, Hulkbuster)

There is a time element to the story missions, but completing the timed challenges just get you more funding to upgrade your armor.

AncientSpirit

Can you elaborate on the "time element" in the story challenges?

Also, are you enjoying the game?

On the Ps2, AS, I'd have to answer your question with a resounding "Meh".

Flying is so counter-intuitive as to be ridiculous and useless, but it's fun to run around and blow things up.

Sword

In the story missions, before you start you are given the main goal: such as "Escape the Ten Rings Camp" or "Test the Mark II Suit" Beneath it however are a pair of sub-goals. One is a time goal "Complete in such and such a time to get extra funding" and the other is "defeat X number of enemies."

I was enjoying it, until I lost my data. The rental is long since returned.

daerdevil

I might be holding out for the bargain bucket edition based on this luke warm reception.

EDIT:
Scratch that.  Just played the demo, and this one's a no-go at any price.  Looks like they managed to boil all of the fun out of a good concept.
1. Awkward play controls - check
2. Generic enemies - check
3. Throwing hordes of enemies at you at once, in lieu of any real challenge - check
4. repetitive gameplay - check

Wow... If I had known half of this, I'd have requested something else for my birthday... Can't think of what... But then, I enjoyed the first ps2 Hulk game. So I'll probably like this one too. It'll at least be something new and different. :P

TheMarvell

the game is getting terrible reviews. Probably a renter at most.

and the first PS2 Hulk game was actually pretty good, I thought. It's got nothing on Ultimate Destruction, but for a movie-game, I thought it was good.

Shame, really. They even got the movie actors for the video game voices, but that appears to be about the only thing they did right.
