http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080521e.php - The good news is that Peter Davis, one of the producers of the original movie, will also be producing this. The bad news is that they're making this.

Honestly, why couldn't they either ignore the waste of film that is Highlander The Source (which has an ending that undermines the point of the Highlander franchise and is so bad that it went direct to video and is so horribly done that I refuse to watch it - I didn't even consider it when Sci-Fi aired it!) and do a new film with Duncan or do a spin-off? A prequel about a Japanese Immortal who originally owned Connor's katana would work. (Duncan wouldn't work; they showed how he acquired his in an episode of the tv series, and it was owned by a normal human)

Sorry to say, the series needs to be retired.

Quote...which has an ending that undermines the point of the Highlander franchise...

I have a huge soft spot for the original as a brilliantly crappy B grade piece of 80's entertainment... but lets be fair... EVERY sequel undermined the story and concepts.

They're immortal, no wait they're aliens, oh wait the directors cut makes them immortal again only Earth of the past was in some other star system (or we lost a planet and some moons in the last 1000 years), then the ending of the first film is ignored so they can redo the same story only without Clancy Brown (BLASPHEMY!), then hes an immortal again, only hes got an immortal cousin or whatever relation connor and duncan were, then Joan Jett becomes immortal for an episode, then its the apocalypse and something about the immortal holy grail that ends in some kind of lasearium light show. And what about that whole "There can be only one" thing...

This whole series once they started making sequels, was a concept that existed for one purpose, to milk the brand name dry, as cohesion, logic and continuity never seemed to be part of the creation process.

QuoteThe good news is that Peter Davis, one of the producers of the original movie, will also be producing this.

Peter Davis is the guy who has been a producer on EVERY highlander franchise property. If you're gonna blame anyone for ruining a cool concept its him. I've seen interviews and hes one of those cliche' sleazy producer types that thinks extremely highly of himself and the one property that he owns that is his bread and butter cash cow.

QuoteThe bad news is that they're making this.

I agree that its pretty much an unnecessary remake at this point, but IF you are gonna do it, you really need to strip all the original creators out and start from scratch. Re-imagine that sucker, cause really its been "remade" to death in its various forms enough. And for petes sake, work out your mythology and rules before hand.

Are there any rules to Scottish mythology?

QuoteNot only are there no rules to Scottish mythology, there aren't even any hard rules for their history, which is completely made up and changes whenever they want it to.

So the keepers of Scottish history also sideline as screenwriters for the Highlander films... it all makes sense now.

Uh, the Highlander movies really have nothing to do with Scottish mythology.

And I thought the very existence of the second movie had been completely eradicated from the space-time continuum.

It's interesting that you ask that this week, when this story's still fresh in my mind:

Not only are there no rules to Scottish mythology, there aren't even any hard rules for their history, which is completely made up and changes whenever they want it to.

Isnt that the same guy who endorsed the alleged Hitler diaries? Would really take what he says with a pinch of salt.

And while I enjoyed Highlander, it just got milked for all its worth. If they do remake it can we please have a real Scot in the lead role, worst scottish accent ever.
