Sharing Long Lost Mods?

I understand that the Mod Graveyard will only host abandoned/lost mods if they get permission from the author(s) to do so. Unfortunately, many lost mods got that way because the author(s) vanished along with their websites and/or filehosts, which usually makes communication impossible.

My question: Is there a rule about this sort of thing on FR?

I happen to have copies of the following mods, which are from sites that are down or cybersquatted and from download links that are broken:

* B.I.T.C.H. Brigade (formerly http://www.alkemykalfaktory.com/ff/bb/index.htm)
* Iron Mod (formerly http://irlheat.bhmotorsports.com/FF/index.html)
* Psi World (UNKNOWN! Do you know the old address?)
* Hero City (formerly http://www.hq4hc.com/mod.html)

I have poured over all the documentation and archived web pages for each mod to find email addies and other possible contact info. I've also searched the Members list on FR for the authors and their contact info, and left a PM when found. But so far the only author I was able to contact was ffjands, who was a co-author of Hero City. (Still haven't heard back from Lude.)

After being gone for several years, I would imagine that there are a few fans now who would love to download these, not to mention take a look at the corresponding web pages I have archived. I've already uploaded the first three of these to a file host, but I'm waiting to inquire as to whether or not I should share the links.

So, what's it going to be? Can I share? Should I?
(Send a PM if you want...)

Psi World was created by jseturtle2 and its description page is http://www.machlink.com/~jturtle/fforce.htm. The page is still up, but the mod itself was hosted at hq4hc.com, which is, as you note, down.

We haven't really been in touch for a couple years, but I have a couple email addresses for jseturtle2 and I will send him a note, if he checks those addresses. I imagine he might be interested in having Psi World on cat's site. I think at one point Épiméthée was hosting a patch for the mod, so he may also have some way to get in touch with the author.

I'll tell you now that there's a very low chance you'll ever get in touch with Lude. The guy went missing sometime last year. But really, if you can get in touch with Jands and he says "go", I think it'd be ok to upload, though it should probably be on Cat's site or FRP considering their purposes (and lude's association with said site).

Actually, Jands more or less told me "go." I already passed his message on to Cat for an answer.

While on the subject of lost mods, perhaps someone reading this has a copy of one of these old mods? I never got the chance to get a copy and these are about the only FF mods I missed out on:

* Buffy Mod (Unknown. Do you know the old address?)
* The Martian Manhunter Chronicles (Unknown. Do you know the old address?)

'Tis a shame, too, 'cause I'm a big fan of Buffy the Vamp Slayer. Alas... :D

going by memory, im pretty sure Cat has said several times he has the buffy mod. I don't think anyone has the MM mod anymore UNLESS they have a copy of the mods cd from freedommods. Also, I think I have it on a cd or on my old pc. I do remember taking a look at it. Tis only 2 or 3 missions and it was never finished.

ETA:

it was made by bredon and hosted at http://www.egamersweb.com/buffy.exe

I'd have to dig through my disks, but I do believe I have the Buffy mod and maybe the manhunter mod.

As for Hero City, remind me and I'll throw it up there, since we do seem to have the permission we need.

I also have Iron Mod and Psi world, and I believe I have the permission I need for the former.

THis is the author of Psiworld. Glad to see this site is up and running again. I know it went down; I had a link with 4 color explosion for awhile; but I could never connect through it with this site. So I gave up. You have my fullest permission to host both the mod, and the patch. My current provider won't allow ftp unless they control it and limit it. Hell, if there was enough interest, I might even consider trying to finish the second episode -- though I was running into serious problems with coding the effects I wanted, as Stumpy could tell you. For more info on the mod, and other links, my web page with that stuff is "www.machlink.com/~jturtle/fforce.htm" (the download button link is no longer valid, I'm sorry to say).

Have fun, peoples!! And thanks to Stumpy for contacting me!

I guess I have to stop being lazy and throw some of these up now.

Shoot, you try to be lazy and people have to come along and ruin it! Grumble, grumble, grumble.

I just received a PM from al_kemyst, the author of the B.I.T.C.H Brigade mod:

Are you the same "a1_kemyst" that wrote the awesome B.I.T.C.H Brigade mod for FF? If you are: I want to ask for permission to upload this mod somewhere.

The B.I.T.C.H Brigade website has been down for quite some time. It's a shame that fans can no longer download and enjoy your work...

Please do! :thumbup:
I kept the site going for as long as a could, but unfortunately that was no longer possible.
I made this game for this community, and actually was trying to get it into the mod graveyard, but it didn't seem to happen.
I'm very flattered that people still remember my humble little mod, and consider it an honor that someone would be willing to dedicate space and bandwith to it. Let me know if  you would like any of the artwork I had up on the site. I still have it in my HD, in case you may need it.

To recap, this means we now have permission to share/host the following lost mods:

* B.I.T.C.H. Brigade by al_kemyst
* Iron Mod by The Four-Eyed Avenger
* Psi World by jseturtle2
* Hero City by lude and ffjands

BTW: Earlier, I had already uploaded B.I.T.C.H. Brigade, Iron Mod, and Psi World to a file host. But I have not yet publically shared the download links in the hope that they will soon be picked up by Cat's Mod Graveyard, instead. [Hint, hint...]

Hero City...If I find the time (and assuming I have the mod on a cd somewhere), I'll see about putting it on frp. The site is due for an update now that Conduit and Dana have made/released maps.

I'm forgetful and I get sidetracked easily. Remind you of a certain four footed creature?  Anyway, keep bugging me and I'll get to it eventually.  The more bugging and harassing the better, actually.

Cat, do you have the marvel super action mod? I have an exe for missions 1 and 2 (there's three missions though). I also have the "random campaign" mod + rumbleforce 1.5.

IIRC, rumble force wasn't a true mod, but a skirmish add-on for ff1. It also had skin assets + a JLA version which I don't have. Same thing for the random campaign (minus jla).

*note, gotta see if I can reach furie again*

Also, I have the blade mod sitting around, but I don't have the main install for herocity anymore. Just the various updates. :S

UPDATE:

Furie gave the go ahead to host any of his lost mods. ^^

Chernobyl_Cow_Say_Moo

I'm an old player of FF and just recently put a copy of FFvTTR on my shelf.  I remember having downloaded IRON MOD a long time back but never had the time to make it through.  Now guess what?  Downey Jr. dressed up in a tin can, they slapped his face on a DVD cover, and now I'm Iron Man theme crazy.

What can we do to get this thing hosted?  Someone DOES have it, right?  I could upload a torrent to Demonoid.com or something if we're interested.  Keep me updated!

Thanks.
