New install FFVTR Runtime Error Abnormal program termination

  Help! I am reading lots of stuff that doesn't seem to help. I know I'm coming very late to this game, so I figured the bugs would be worked out already, but oh well.
  I am running a new HP with Windows Vista Home Premium and a GEForce 8600 GT and I have run much newer games than this on it...Any ideas out there? Will it run on Vista Home Premium? It's gotta, right? I updated my drivers, I scanned for viruses, everything seems good to go.
  Any ideas? I appreciate any assistance yous can give me.
