Mr. Hamrick

Okay, it could argued (and I am betting it will be argued) that I should post this in either the "Film, Television, Video, and Music" forum or the fan fiction forum.  I probably will cross post this in the "Film section"  Given the strange circumstances of all of this (and the fact that its a bit of ranting on my part), I figured that I would post it here first.  Here's the situation:

I have been working on three different scripts for a while now.  In addition to this, I have been involved with at least three different productions over the past two months in various capacities.  Things are not going as well as I hoped but things could be worse too.  I've gotten two business related calls this morning.  One was a telephone interview for a production company that currently is developing some content for television.   The other is from a business partner of mine about a project that she REALLY wants to do.  Add two more projects to the list IF I get the job with the production company.  I am heading in for an interview next week.

So here is the help I need from you all.  I am not asking any one person.  I am asking the ENTIRE community to partake in this venture.

My partner, Ondie Daniel, wants to do a "vampire film" of some sort.  We have a deadline.  We want the project to be out by next October.  Why?  Not simply for Halloween but because Netherworld Haunted House in Atlanta will be doing some sort of "vampire theme" next year.  Ondie is heavily involved with Netherworld and has been for a number of years.  One of the ideas we had was to release the DVD at Netherworld but there is also the possibility of submitting it to a few other film festival outlets.  I am sure there are some horror film festivals out there.  We need a good script.   I mean really good.   :)    I wanted to enlist the aid of the community in developing the script in the coming weeks.  BUT WAIT, I AM NOT STOPPING THERE.

I know we have a handful of burgeoning filmmakers, artists, and writers here in the community.  We also have some guy who owns his own comic company. (Hi Zapow!)  I was pondering setting up something where the FR community members who are interested could be involved with the development of some film projects.  The members who contribute would get full credit and if there is money from the project there would be some sort of small compensation to be figured out later.  This is an idea that I am toying around with, mind you, but one I feel is worthy of being developed.

IS ANYONE INTERESTED??

BETTER YET, COULD SOMEONE HELP ME SET UP A FORUM OFF SITE TO ACCOMMODATE THIS.  I ask this because as far as I can tell, the program that this board is not Mac Compatible.

Hope to get some feedback from you all.  Thanks.

How long is the Vampire film going to be?  It seems like a very short deadline to me....I don't know how much work you have done.

Hmm.  This is tempting, Mr. Hamrick, though you might be better served corresponding with my better half, who is a well respected vampire (and, in general, gothic literary) historian.  For my own part, I have read and taught Le Fanu (including his infamous "Carmilla") and Stoker's Dracula; however, beyond the occasional film (e.g., The Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire, Nosferatu, etc.), I'm no bloodsucker buff.  Besides, I'm certain Prev can give you an honest appraisal of the pointless headache working with me can be ("pointless" because nothing ever gets finished due to RL responsibilities).

How's that for my (dis)qualifications? ;)  If you'd like me to speak with my wife about her possible interest in your project, please let me know.  Good luck, lad! :)

I too am interested, if you need another academic who is not a particular expert on vampire lore beyond of the most popular sort. At the very least I can give feedback on drafts and concepts.

Mr. Hamrick

Ow_tiobe, my email addy is gary at garyhamrick.com, I would be happy to speak with your wife.

Yeah the deadline is short, Law.  However, it can be done.  I have a very talented crew but we just need a script at this point.

Dr. Challenger, I have a couple of things I have been racking my brain over as well but I am generally open to ideas.

To whoever:
I was looking for this to probably be some sort of short film but I am open to something full length.  Generally speaking, a short form piece is under 40 minutes in length.  If I did a feature, then maybe 85 pages.  The issue is more so that I don't have ideas at this point for anything of this sort.   However, I'd love someone to co-write the draft in full or at least a treatment.  It's open to discussion, though.
