Seven Soldiers

Well, needless to say I'm a huge fan of the series, and just thought I'd bring up some open discussion considering theres alot that can be taken from the story. I was specifically wondering what people thought of issue 1. With the rather complex plot and Grant Morrison's sometimes confusing (though always great) writing, there are a lot of plot points thrown in and around. I'd say it is one of the best mini series to come out in a long time to talk about, considering all the imagery, allusions, iconography, symbolism, references and other interesting elements. So assuming you bought the trades or issues, what was your favorite series? Were the plots actually clear? Did you connect the dots? Catch every reference? I know I couldn't without the help of this site http://www.barbelith.com/faq/index.php/Seven_Soldiers_Annotations , and if you read the series and haven't visited there yet, you have to. Any thoughts at all?

I heard somewhere that Morrison's original script was heavily truncated ... I can only imagine it would have been amazing.

I really dug this series as a whole, but I think the most interesting part (for me) were the flashbacks to the original Newsboy Legion ... their whole role in the story reminded me of the Losers from Stephen King's It.
