Hey there, I'm a new guy around here, specifically looking for some help. I last played this game about three or four years ago, and I noticed it during some winter cleaning and now have this incredible desire to replay it. Unfortunately, I'm now running Windows XP 64 bit edition, and it says the game is incompatible. =\ Is there any way around this problem, so that I can play again?

Thanks,
XiD

If you're talking about the first game, then you'll need the third patch to run it on any system of Windows XP SP 2 or later.

Lunarman

Isn't there an issue with many programs not running on this "64" bit edition. Something to do with them being 32 bit programs?

Maybe, but if he's using XP, then it doesn't matter.  He won't know until he patches the XP SP2 bug first, which is exactly what this sounds like.

It's best to conquer the problem we KNOW is there before we worry about the one that MIGHT be.

If memory serves, I recall an old post on the Irrational forum. IIRC, FF (and FF3R?) won't run on Windows64. IIRC Irrational said they didn't support Windows64. Hope I'm wrong.

Many games companies (and others) regard 64bit Windows as a beta product.

Frankly, Microsofts abilities to support architectures other than Intel 32 bit is shockingly bad. Look at all the patches they've released over the years for Cyrix and AMD chips.

Why would he need the sp2 patch, he never stated he installed sp2 nor did the 64 bit edi come out after sp2. The last stable version came out in 2003. SP2 was released officially in 2004.

Anyway, Symon and Lunar seem correct from my limited info and research. It seems the 64 bit version loses compatibility with much of the older software.

I assumed that the 64 version was much newer than that.  Did they not have an SP2 for it, though?  If they did, then that might still apply too.

I'm not sure on the 64 bit version...Microsoft kinda stopped updating it in 2003 so i doubt it. The pro 64 edition might since Microsoft seems to still acknowledge its existence.

Well, I guess I learned something today.

You'd think it would work if you hadn't heard different so I wouldn't sweat it cat.

I do hope the OP can prove me wrong though.
