What has been going on with Hercules? (Marvel)

I am a bit out of touch with the son of Zeus these days. Is he still mortal or is he a full god yet? I remember reading the issue where Hulk almost kills him after the Onslaught incident. What are some good titles with Hercs battling some powerful opponents.

Not TOO long ago, they did a classic Thor miniseries, just an out of continuity jaunt through his world.  In the middle issues he and Hercules had a titanic wrestling match...but that's the only think I've seen, I don't really follow the mainstream stuff.

Well, he single handedly beat up the Wrecking Crew in an issue of Thor (#320?). This was following his hospitalisation by the Masters of Evil. Soon beforehand, he tussled with the High Evolutionary and was evolved into a universal being.

Agent

I think there was a Hercules mini-series a few years back but I have no idea what happened in it.

I thought Herc was still wetting himself whenever he saw the Wrecking Crew.

Was it the Wrecking Crew or MoE that gave him brain damage?   Beat him silly...

Actually, the wrecking Crew were all members of that particular incarnation of the MoE, and they participated in beating up Herc. So, it was both.

They had a three issue Herc  mini about 4 years ago. I couldn't stomach it. Herc is possibly the worst used character in Marvel History. He's got such potential (more than Thor IMO), and he's used as comic relief. Feh.

I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned his fairly prominent role in Civil War, where he is one of the major players in Cap's secret avengers. He appears in just about every issue, and a bunch of tie-ins (even if it generally is in a "big fight scene" in the background).

Whats he  been doing though?

I havent' been reading CW, so don't know.

thanoson

Well, he's one of Cap's heavy hitters. But, like I said before, Iron Man has about 4 guys on his team that could wipe the floor out of Cap's side.

Not to mention Iron Man's side has the combined might of SHIELD, the US Army, and every Police, Intelligence and law enforcement agency the US Government has, which is probably why Caps team have been operating guerilla style, and avoiding direct confrontations.
But even so, I maintain that Hercules is pretty much the main reason the "anti-reg" side doesn't get squished whenever theres a fight. I think Herc could hold his own against anyone the pro-reg side has except Superm...I mean Sentry, whose awesome power to retcon the entire Marvel Universe for forty years knows no bounds (or common sense, or interest).

How do you hold back power from one absorbing it? Anyways, Herc has always been a poor man's Thor. No cape, no other flashy powers but strength. Not even flight. Plus, he's portrayed as being kinda dimwitted. However, he did have a good showing in the limited series for Ares, God of War. Still dimwitted, but much cooler portrayal. Ares, however, was awesome. Zounds!!!

read The Return.....  absorbing man gets some power.  but when sentry lets him absorb full power, crusher creel blacks out or some other nonsense.

thanoson

I did read the return. Why do all writers portray Creel as stupid? He's probably one of the most powerful villains out there, yet everybody makes him tap out. Didn't Forbush Man defeat him once? Anyways, i wish some writer would show him getting an education and reading some books on tactics. Then, him trying it out on a hero and it working. He wouldn't have to kill the hero, just leave him saying how the world is going to see the new me soon.

Talavar

While Sentry has registered, he's not really been shown fighting for the Registration side.  Aside from Herc, the Pro-reg side certainly does seem to have the edge in actual physical power though, doesn't it?

Protomorph

Sentry has been dragging his feet in fighting for the pro-reg side. He understands that if he so wished, he could mop up Cap's people in about 5 minutes. He's too powerful for this struggle, and he knows it. He tried to hide with the Inhumans, but Tony found him and dragged him back to earth. He doesn't really want to choose a side.

Renegade

There's a pretty nifty Hercules Marvel Legends action figure that hit the stores a couple of weeks ago. I bought one and likes it a lot, yes indeey!

bredon7777

He got hit by the Constrictor with a major law suit in She-Hulk, went broke, and now works for Damage Control - or did, before all this Civil War silliness started.

I seem to recall that He whupped She-Hulk's butt after his woman was beaten senseless.

herodad1

yes hercules is not given his proper dues.blame it on the writers.

herodad1

also i'd like to add....has anyone read his 2 four issue mini-series where zeus banishes him to space and he befreinds the recorder then a skrull?those are classics.

B A D

As funny as those were, I belive that Herc has been forever tainted by that portrayal. But..skippy the skrull...priceless.

BitBiteOuch

He's starring the the new Champions maxi-series thats coming out I believe.
