My father recently sent the wife and I a portable HD for some extra space, which we've happily been using. Well, earlier tonight, my wife came in the room and told me it was empty. Completely. EMPTY.

We had alot of stuff on there, and I can't figure out why the heck its now empty, and if I can get our stuff back...so I ask thee, fine patrons of Freedom Reborn; HELP ME!

Try Avira Unerase.  Either download from Avira website, or email me at peerless_won@yahoo.com, and I will send the install exe as an attachment.  (Yes it's freeware, and YES!  It works!)  Unless it's a serious hard drive glitch on the physical error order...then I don't know.  But it recalled a bunch of stuff I had deleted--even after emptying the items from the recycle bin.

If this does not work, check out some of the online user support groups.  Google your issue, and see if there's an answer for you.

Hope this helps.   :D

:ff: Forever!

I'm going to try it now, thanks.

Also, its odd, when I look at the properties of it in My Computer, it reads it as 0 bytes, 0 space free, 0 space available. Its like something made it like a blank, unwriteable CD.

I also tried some other recovery program, but it isn't even registering the drive as existing.

*pulls out hair*

How was it connected?  I'm guessing via a USB cable.  If you have any other cables of the same type, you could try swapping them, in case it's that simple (will also check the possibility of a loose/loosely connected cable).

Was the HD already in a case when you got it, or did you have to put it together?  Some of the cases require that you have it on before the computer boots, so that the comp will recognize it.  The fact that the computer recognizes there is supposed to be a drive there, but has no size info on it at least tells us that it's not just simply unconnected or powered off.  Always check the easy things first.  ^_^

*grumbles* Nothing else seems to work. Which means I now get the joy of going out and buying a new USB cable tomorrow.... Bah.

Well, I guess its ok, I still gotta run into town to go rent the Spider-Man 3 game. :D

Best of luck.

Wait...

I ran into the same problem with DVD burning.  I burned files to a DVD with a program, and the MS Window showed it as 0 used and 0 free, but when I opened it with the other program, everything was there.  Maybe something got formatted in such a way as to make it unreadable without the formatting program....

Just a thought...

I'm certain is the cord. When its working normally, its little light is green, when not, its red....And I'm entirely to stressed to bother with anything else with it. So I'm being in denial and saying its just the cord.

:D

Thanks for the info though, if its not the cord, then I have stuff to try.
