Help Needed With NifScope

I had a post up regarding the relocation of a cape on a mesh - specifically the Storm_JimLee mesh. My intent was to re-size the cape to approximately 3/4 or 1/2 its original size.

[Incidentally: this is purely for my own practice with NifScope. I would NEVER post something created by someone else and call it my own. I have a great deal of respect for all you artists and authors out there.]

After a great deal of time and frustration, I decided to try adding a small cape from another mesh and skip the relocation problems all together.

No luck.....

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Maybe this is the wrong way to go. I tried to follow the example in the NifScope Tutorial but all I did was "spin my wheels". I decided to seek out the advice of the pros.

Suggestions? Ideas? Advice? Any and all input would be welcome.

As always thanks for any help you can offer,

P.S. Has anyone ever considered setting up some kind of interactive tutorial targeting specific areas of concern involving NifScope, hexing, skinning, etc. What I'm thinking of is something more than a tutorial and geared to those of us who need a bit more help than we would like to admit.

In cases like this, it's always helpful to say *exactly* what you did, and *exactly* what happened afterwards, rather than just "it didn't work". Makes it easier to troubleshoot. Where did you try to paste the cape, what did it do, etc.?

Sorry about being so vague. I'm still somewhat new at NifScope and unfamiliar with the terminology being used.

I'll try to summarize what I did.

I opened up a copy of the female_bootcuff_glovecuff_effects mesh by  Lord Ehmsidy until I found the "cape node". I left-clicked on the cape to select it. Using the NifScope tutorial for cloning mesh parts as a guide, I copied the cape "branch".

I opened Ink's classic_storm mesh and proceeded to locate the the most logical point to insert the "cape node". After I pasted (or so I thought) the small cape on to the storm mesh I received an error message. I can't recall exactly what it said but it was something about not being able to locate some item pertaining to the cape.

I hope this helped. I could try to recreate the procedure I followed if that would help

Ok, try this:

Before you copy the cape from the female_bootcuff mesh, open up the cape branch and look for a sub-branch called "NiSkinInstance". Right-click on it, and "Remove branch".

Now copy the cape.

Open up the Storm mesh, and look for the "Bip01" node. Open up that branch, and keep opening up the branches until you see the "Bip01 Neck" node. Select that node, then right-click and "Paste Branch". The cape will probably appear off to the side, and turned at the wrong angle. You can fix this by right-clicking on the cape and selecting "Transform->Edit". Once you've got it sitting the way you want, save the mesh and check it out in the Character Tool. If the cape doesn't look quite right attached to the Neck, you can try pasting it onto other Bip nodes, like one of the Clavicles, or maybe Spine1.

The drawback to this is that the pasted-on cape won't "wave in the breeze" like it does on the original mesh. But it should get the cape to stay in place.

Good luck!
