I m not talking about the original vulcan, who got one power from each of the roman gods (sounds like someone else), and Im not talking about the son of vulcan, where he has a metavirus from the white martians and is somehow affiliated with the teen titans.  The one Im refering to is the one grenadier did a mesh of where he has a big flaming axe and seems to be made of fire.  Is this a representation of the roman god, vulcan?  I was wondering if anyone could fill me in, thanks.

Haha, you couldn't figure it out either, huh?  Yeah, it's weird, I wonder who this guy is!

From what I remember, Vulcan was an astronaut who got zapped by a solar flare while on a space mission. It gave him fire powers and drove him insane. For some reason, he had a grudge against the Justice Society -- don't recall the details, it's been a while since I read those issues...

Yep that's it. The Original Son of Vulcan (Charleton character, ported to DC, only to be killed in War of the Gods) was powered by the Roman Gods.  the new one is probably created to maintain copyright.

Here's the entry from dcuguide, if anyone's still curious:

"Vulcan was a super-villain wielding a metal axe and fire powers, who once battled the silver age incarnation of the Justice Society of America and seriously injured Doctor Fate. Months later, he was transported to 1942 by the Ultra-Humanite, who collected a cadre of super-villains to attack the American government of the time. Ultra's minions were stopped by the 1940s JSA, the All-Star Squadron, and a time-lost Infinity, Inc. Vulcan has not been seen since the Crisis."

I remember that Infinity Inc. crossover; lovely Jerry Ordway art. I seem to recall that Vulcan -- real name Col. Christopher Pike, which may raise an eyebrow with Star Trek fans -- blames the JSA for the mess his life has become since his space accident. They inspired him to become an astronaut in the first place, you see.

I AM VULCAN!  SON OF FIRE!

THE JSA WERE MY CHILDHOOD IDOLS.

THE JSA BETRAYED ME!

The ... JSA.. be... trayed... me...

If you can get you hands on the Suicicde Squad Mod, or either Forum Battle Royale mods, you can extract the Hero File for Vulcan from those, where he is a built in character.

Oh, and Vulcan Son of Fire was created well before DC bought the Charlton characters, including Son Of Vulcan.

Perhaps it was the purchase of Son of Vulcan that prompted DC to stop using V, SoF.   Or it could be that Gerry Conaway (on All-Star Comics) and Roy Thomas (on All-Star Squadron) stopped working for DC.   That and they never hired NSNC to write for them.
