I just saw this article.  So much of the gee-whiz technology today seems to be about consumer electronics - here's something a little different.  They now have an ultrsound machine the size of a lap top.  Even as little as 10 years ago they were the size of a dishwasher and about as portable!  While still not as good as a full-size machine, these things can go anywhere (Disaster sites, war zones, undeveloped countries) and can run for hours on the battery pack alone!
