Meshes that emanate light in FFVTTR...

Hi Guys...

Forgive my ignorance, but is there any way to make the bonfire and torch meshes from FF emmit light like the Burning books and Jack O' Lanterns in FFVTTR?  It's probably not possible, but I thought I'd ask...I have a few map ideas that could use those objects, but I'd prefer they give off a nice flickering light.

Dana :)

Unfortunately the FX emitters in the FFVTTR exporters have always been broken (or require some configuration that wasn't ever explained), so while it's possible to create an FFVTTR mesh with a light, it's not possible to make one with fire.

Of course one could take a blank light emitting mesh and position with an FX mesh in FFEdit. In theory anyway.

I talked to Vertex about FFVTTR particles a couple months back and he said he tried but never got them to actually work. I assume his final releases were converted meshes.

So no go, huh?  That's too bad.  Thank you guys.

Dana

Well for my Av, i did something along the lines of attaching a glow to him, using FFX.  I use VX_Human_Torch for the mesh..

I think i gave him the FFX attribute Overheated.  And for the attatched FX, I just switched to the Red_Glow effect (the one that goes on the Jack-O-Lanterns and torches from Red Oktober's Lair)  So instead of exploding in flames constantly, he emanates light.

It flickers between red and orange light. It should be possible to grab that Effect using NifSkope and put it on another mesh, shouldn't it?  And if thats possible I don't see why you couldn't also change the colors, intensity and area of light?

Otherwise could the FF1 bonfires could be made as characters and given that Overheated attribute?

Thanks Rev...Hmmmm...I just wish I was more skilled at NifSkope. :banghead:

I've been poking ariound in the art.ff file, looking for what might be the glowing light nif that gets used for flickering torches.  Does anybody know where it might be?

cmdrkoenig67

I found this (I don't know if it helps any)...In the "interface_elements" folder there is a folder called "lights"...It has an NIF file in it.

You can copy the node from the el diablo mesh (firelight above I think it's called, sorry but I'm away from my PC) and paste it into another mesh with Nifskope. You can also play with the setting to give off different coloured light too.

Awesome, thanks apfarmakis and cmdrkoenig67 !

Thats-a-what i was looking for!

Hey Dana I finally figured this out, I think.

There are actually TWO nodes from El Diablo mesh that you have to copy.  Both are called NiPointLight, and are found in lines 78 and 97.  Omni_Firelight_Local and Omni_Firelight_Above.  Paste both of these on the scene root of the target mesh; I tried it with a test mesh in-game, and it looked just like the glow that comes from El Diablo!

Thank you for the help, Rev.  I'm not very good with NIFSkope, though (like IPS...I don't know it very well)...I tried to add reflection and glow to another mesh(a while back) and screwed it up several times...LOL.  I haven't had the time to really explore it.  I appreciate the effort you put into it...I'm just not sure when or if I'll be able to do it.

It's okay, I had alot of spare time and just played around til i figured things out with it.

What nifs are you adding light to? I can try it out.  I have all the nifs from FF1 and 2.

I'd like to have the light added to the bonfire and the torches from FF(in the Pan's Island folder).  Thank you so much, Rev...I hope it's not too much trouble.

One other thing, do you want them to work in FFvs3R?   I think that's the only way I'll be able to do it.

If there is an example of a lighted mesh in FF1, I can copy that effect over to a FF1 mesh.  That's the only way I can get it to work in FF1 maps and objects, I can't copy the FF2 light effect and have it work in the first game...

NifSkope unfortunately can't copy from FF2 to FF1, just like we can't backwards-convert.

Yes...I'd like to use them on some new FFVTTR maps that I'm working on... :D
