Im nervous so let me break this down:

Lugaru writes letters to newspapers about political subjects, they get published often, my co-workers decide that Im a good writer.

My co-workers tell me "you should write the company president requesting a raise". Lugaru starts to take notes and do research.

We have a meeting about company feedback, we are told about a high up dude recently appointed to handling feedback. During that meeting our boss say's "are you guy's ok with your salary? Sure? Maybe you should write about it..."

Lugaru sit's down, bangs out about 2500 words. Not the crap I post here, I actually used spellcheck.    :P

Yesterday an epic mess happens at work. My boss stays late with me and tells me she read the letter, that she got it from high up and they are scared. She urges me to press on.

Today I get a call from the VP of human resources. He will be in my building on tuesday, he would like to meet with me and the head boss of my floor.

In the meantime lugaru does tequila shots because I've got a LOT of skeletons in my closet at work, which means they will either stop tolerating me, or my entire department might get a raise. I'll update you guy's on tuesday.

Luck is for the ill-prepared.

Podmark

Or they might decide to have you whacked....what? I assumed you were working for the mafia...ok so bad assumption.

Don't worry too much. But I do hope things work out. If not you'll find something better. For every door that closes, one opens. May the Force be with you <(-_-)>

Glitch Girl

Fingers crossed for you (at least after I type this - gets hard to type with fingers crossed)  Keep us posted.

El Condor

Sounds like you're on top of this situation, Lugaru.  Since you've clearly thought this through, I have no doubt that you'll be awesome in there.  Good luck!

The Phantom Eyebrow

Best of luck Lugaru.  It sounds like you have your act together so hopefully it'll all pan out well for you.

Uncle Yuan

Good grief, I can just imagine how nervous you must be right now!!

I hope you get the raise!

Sevenforce

Eep.

Negotiating for a raise can be a tricky business, but from the way you tell it you're more worried that they're going to boot you out over some business in your past? Try not to worry about it too much, I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm pretty sure you've written some great articles, and I'm sure they'll focus more on that than any petty  previous incidences. Really.

All the best, man. *salutes

Thanks for the good vibes guys!

Honestly things went great. Actually I might of mislead you guy's, I dont write for a living, I investigate fraud for a living. But I write a lot so my co-workers decided I should write everyones collective grievances. (btw this is my hobby www.theconnoisseurs.com )

So lets see... it went well. Basically they agree that we all deserve more than we get paid, that there is an unfair gap between retail and operations people (people who make money and people who cost money) but they dont know what will happen when they ask to pay us more. Either way I told them a lot of truths such as the fact that I have gotten better offers to do jobs that Im not interested in so I turned them down and that with my current salary I can barely afford to live in the projects of Jamaica Plains (one of the poorer parts of town) with 3 roomates.

Also one of the people interviewing me fell into a really bad trap. We where talking about overtime and she said "they dont need any overtime because they always get their work done" and the HR guy reads the letter out loud and it says "our supervisors think we dont need any overtime because we always acomplish our goals. This is not true. While we meet our deadlines our paperwork piles up with no hope to properly file it..."

So yeah, sometime between a few weeks and a month I might have some news about a raise. If it falls appart Im looking for a job with the competition. If it does not I'll gladly stay there a couple more years.

ps: I used my new mp3 player to record the entire conversation. Hehehehehe...    :o

Quoteps: I used my new mp3 player to record the entire conversation. Hehehehehe...

It's illegal to record someone's voice without their permission.

MJB

Since you are a talking potato-man, it is not very legal to do anything.

Mmm... my co-workers wanted to hear the thing. After they listen to the highlights during lunch today I'm deleting that file as per Captain Spud's legal advice.  :)

Sevenforce

Good boy. Though if you can get permission to record meetings...just remember to have a backup in case one gets broken during it. Heh.
