I just got word that Capt. Grendal_71, U.S.M.C. (writer extroidinairre) has just shipped out as a communications officer for his Marine Expeditionary Unit.  He's bound for unspecified points east, but having had a good quiet sit with the family for the last couple of years he's actually hoping to go to Iraq.  Some noble thing about doing his part after years of letting others get shot at.

He sends greetings to all here.  Be sure to send him your thoughts and prayers as he deploys.  To him and the pregnant Mrs. Grendal_71 . . .   (man, how bad would that suck!)

Thanks for this news Yuan.  Grendal's writing and his general posting here was always greatly enjoyable to read (in fact I well recall dicing with him myself in the ongoing alphabetical story thread over at Freedomfans back in the day, or whatever it was called (I say 'well recall' probably inadvisedly; the details elude me now but I do know it happened)).  I'll certainly be sending him my best regards and I hope he stays safe and well out there and gets home and back online here soon.

I remember when I was having some fun with a poster over on ffans (R.I.P.) and I was starting to wonder if I had taken things too far. Then I got an attaboy PM from Grendal that he was laughing himself silly. :cool: Gren's a good guy.

It's great to hear that he is doing well and he has my best wishes that things stay that way. I hope he gets a chance to check in every so often and knows we miss him.

Insanity! (And this does not even qualify as an example of fashionable insanity!)  Although, perhaps it offers an answer to an age-old question: Was it love or war that gave birth to poetry?  'Twas both (which may be two different visages of the same reality only visible in a glass)...Or was it poetry that gave birth to love and war?...

There will be hell to pay if he does not return to us in one piece.  :angry:
