Running FF under vista

I just installed FF for the first time in years on my Vista box but when I try to run it I get a big window saying "This game is not compatible blah blah" and if I choose to try to run it it just crashes. I tried running it under compatibility mode (Windows XP SP 2) and it still doesn't work. Anybody know how to get around this? If there is no hope for FF will FFvTR work under Vista?

you are going to want to do a parallel install of an older windows.  winxp pre sp2, or win 98.

Does that apply to FFvTR as well?

Edit: I downloaded the FFvTR demo and it works fine, it doesn't even have a compatibility pop-up.  :D

Edited because I don't actually know anything about Vista.

xvertigox, for the first game, have you tried applying the patch? FF wouldn't run under WinXP SP2 without the patch, so I doubt it would run under Vista's compatibility mode for WinXP SP2 without the patch. I'm not saying that that is a sufficient fix. But it is likely a necessary one, even if it doesn't do the whole job by itself (though it might).

(BTW, the FAQ post at the top of this forum has a note on finding the FF patch if you don't have it.)

Let us know how it turns out.

I have Vista in my Notebook and ffvstr works fine.

Both run for me. Without a hitch. I has to install some Starforce drivers, but windows vista found them instantly.

FF1 needs the patch 1.3 to run, obviously.

The great thing about Vista is it will detect you've got a problem, and fix it for you automatically. Good luck

depends on which version of vista you run 32 bit should work with updates 64 bit probably not going to work.    vista also uses alot of memory to run, 1/2 a gig. if you do a parallel install of xp you could get the programs to run but check your resources first.  but for the 64 bit vista you are going to need an update which is probably not going to be made.   :rickbm
