I just picked up Superman 670 and Lois Lane was drawn as if she were one of the Mole Man's moloids!!!  I'm not making it up.  In one panel the woman has no nose!!!

And then I realized.  DC Comics no longer knows what Lois Lane looks like.

When I grew up (and walked 20 miles in the snow to get to a comic book shop, after cutting down a tree so the publisher could make the paper) ... Lois Lane always looked like Lois Lane.   Same short black hair.  Same pretty face.   Same pearl earrings.  Same walk.   Same tallk.   Same Lois.   (Sure, she was only 2 dimensional then, but that's a different thread.)   Lana always looked like Lana.   And Lois and Lana were as beautiful and easily identifiable as Betty and Veronica.

Today, she's all over the lot from one magazine to another.   Why?   Mary Jane Watson looks like Mary Jane Watson all the time.   Why no respect for Lois?  Are they just not paying DC artists enough money to hire people who've graduated from art school?    Hell, Lois doesn't even look the same from one panel to another in the same comic ... let alone like totally different characters between books.   Short hair, long hair, black hair or brown?   Make up your mind already!

Lois, come back!   I miss you!

Different strokes for different folks?

Spe, I don't mind that its not my Lois Lane.  Her days were done decades ago.  And there was a different but consistent looking Lois before my Lois of the 50s and 60s.  Throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s,  Lois also sported different looks to mirror the times.  No problem.  But I still maintain that today's Lois should look the same from book to book.

This same issue featured Power Girl and Supergirl.  And the artist's style, though different than others, still captured their basic looks.   So why not Lois?   To me, it feels like because Lois doesn't where a super costume, DC isn't clear what she looks like anymore.

Your mileage may vary.

I have to agree with the ancient one (although I havent picked up a superman comic in ages) simply about artists sticking to the look of a character as much as possible. Simply put unless you are a artist with a knack for faces all your characters look the same when wearing civilian clothes. Still if you check out old Jim Lee X-men the art was far from perfect but you could instantly recognize each character in their civies based on style and consistent looks. Somebody who never wears a costume (Lois) should have two or three things that artists shouldent mess with for consistency sake.
