Looks pretty good, but I can't see Captain America hitting Hulk so hard that he goes flying through a building. I am thinking that the characters will not be canon at all and we will see characters like Cap beating the crap out of guys like the Hulk.

gengoro

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about seeing that too.  Ill try to give it a chance though.  Hope it has like an adventure mode or something.  I know that marvel nemesis had one but I heard it sucked.

bredon7777

I had the same problem with the old Justice League fighting game for Super Nintendo.  I don't care  how hard Batman hits Superman, Batman breaks his !@#$ hand!

During E3, lead game designer Kudo Tsunoda said that they'll be tuning the gameplay so that it would accurately reflect characters' abilities, so a guy like Captain America, for example, wouldn't be able to take down the Hulk outright, but would have to creatively use the environment to inflict reasonable damage. The game looks real good so far.

GhostMachine

Cap throwing the Hulk through a building? No.

Cap judo throwing or monkey flipping the Hulk? Yes. He's done it several times in the comics.

I hope that there are next to no clones, in terms of gameplay.  This may be based off Marvel Comics, which means some people may like playing as their favorite characters, but it's also a game, and a fighting game in this case.  I'd also prefer a decent sized roster.  20-30 would do, and anymore would add icing to the cake, unless the're clones.  It'd also be a good idea if most or all fighters had a good number of attacks, and not a small amount.  Last but not least, balance.  If the're going to portray characters acuratly, fine, just so long as they come up with ways for each character to defeat another, and if characters have to use the environment, it shouldn't be exactly the same for each character.  For example, Captain America could hit a rope that has a big box attached to the end of it with his sheild, and if his foe is under the box, the box would hit his foe.  Spider-man could sling a piece of rubble with his webs at his opponet.  I'm expecting character dependent attacks too, of course.

another Marvel fighting game? I'm interested already. :P

Really though, I loved the Capcom games (wish they'd re-release them though. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is virtually impossible to find, and on ebay it goes for way too much), and I enjoyed Nemesis, even though that game was pretty damn stupid and horribly imbalanced. It was something I considered "so bad it's good" quality. However, if you didn't have a projectile attack (ie-Thing and Wolverine) you were screwed. The imperfects were really uninteresting with the exception of maybe 2 of them (I liked Johnny Ohm) and way too much crap could explode. But hey, it was good fun on a very dumb level.

Hopefully this one will be better. It certainly looks better. Nemesis had a good engine, so if they tweak that a little, make it balanced, get rid of the stupid Imperfects and throw in more popular Marvel characters it could be pretty awesome. Oh, and if they're going for another Power Stone style of brawler fighter that Nemesis was, 4 player with different styles of game modes is a must. They could have your standard free for all, but also include team death matches, king of the hill type modes, certain rules to defeat your enemies to win (ie-only earn points by getting your opponents out of the "ring"), etc etc. It really could be as good as Power Stone was if they tried.

Volsung

That's attractive!
Despite the aberration of power levels I love what I see in this video
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24423.html

I waited for a long time the era where fighting games could have strong immersion and movement freedom.
They are few, but this one is the first 'next gen' of his kind.I want to see more!

Your Cap Vs Hulk comment reminds of their fight in The Ultimates. Hulk tears Cap out of a tank but, before he can get a hit in, Cap lands half a dozen shots and lays him out on the ground, followed by Nick Fury incredulously asking "You just beat up The Hulk???"

Haljack

Dont really see much of the characters but it doesnt look like they are going for an established look but their own interpretation. Doom looks a bit chunkier and Cap has a backpack.

Since they most likely have multiple skins for a verstile mesh it's probably just the outfit available for the demo video. I believe the Cap in the video is based on a modern version of Ultimate Captain America's WWII outfit and the Doom is adapted from a Fantastic Four cartoon series (Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends possibly since he was chunkier in that version). And I believe the Juggernaut skin in the Hulk video is similar to his X-Men 3 outfit since it looks more like a bondage gimp suit.

Well, I'm always hopeful.  ;)

It can't be as plainly bad as Rise of the Imperfects. So at least we've got that to look forward to. I really hope it's good.  :)

As far as Cap vs. Hulk... of course that idea is ridiculous. But so is Woverine vs Hulk, and fans love that fight in comics. It isn't about realism, it's about bringing the popular characters into the game. If you wanted realism, Cap would be in a game with Daredevil, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi and Black Widow. The Hulk would be in a game with Thor, Silver Surfer, Juggernaut and Black Bolt. But neither of those games would appeal to as wide of a crowd as this one will.

I do wish they would give a roster for the game. So far we have seen:

Hulk
Juggernaut
Captain America
Spider-Man (in cinematic)
Doctor Doom (in cinematic)
Iron Man (in the production shot as the artist explained their style- so he's a maybe)

Wolverine (can be assumed as he is unaviodable in anything Marvel)

I agree with the less clones and more variety comments also. More characters!  :D

Oh yeah, and.. I REALLY hope it's good.

I would love to see a superhero fighting game that places characters in two tiers. On one hand you have hawkeye, captain america, the punisher, black widow... it is easy to make adjustments so that a fight between any two of these characters is fair. Then you have uber characters such as hulk, thor, sentry, juggernaut. Again it is easy to tweak these characters to the point where there is a 50% chance thei will win against each other. And dudes like spidey or iron man? I suggest they get rounded down (spidey) or up (iron man) to work as one of these two groups. Then you could have multi character fighting a la "marvel vs capcom" with teams that contain for example one uber and three normal characters or any other combination. Multiple 'normal' characters would be able to take down an uber character using a combination of skill (i.e. not getting hit), cleverness (using enviroment) and teamwork (strikers, press a button and another character assists you for a few seconds). And if Captain falls before hulk then Logan enters and so on until you run out of normals or until the hulk has finally fallen.

have you played M.U.G.A.N ?
i think all marvel chars from marvel vd capcom 1 and 2 exist in it

DMenacer

As for Cap knocking out the Hulk. I read some where that its was possible he did it because he knew that if he waited until the Hulk got mad, it wouldn't be possible. The problem with that answer is that Hulk must of already been mad to be able to rip the tank apart.

After I heard that Kudo Tsunoda (of EA Chicago, in charge of the next-gen Marvel fighting game) had left EA, I wondered what the status of the game would be.

Turns out it's being canceled, as Marvel and Electronic Arts have gone their separate ways.

Oh well, maybe Capcom will get the license and make a new Marvel vs. Capcom game using the spanking new Streetfighter IV Engine... the cartoony visuals of that game lends itself perfectly to a comic book-based fighting game.

Maybe...just maybe... EA will use their own characters from Nemesis and finish the thing?  It just looked too cool to throw away all that work.

Marvel should start their own game company

Marvel should concentrate on running their comic book company, as opposed to running it into the ground.

They wouldn't know what to do with a game company if they had one.

That was just a bit frosty, BB. Anyway, marvel shouldn't make their own game company unless they actually have time to focus on it and hire people who are appropriate for the job. Regardless, comic books aren't their "big money" anymore and it seems like a few people aren't seeing that. If anything, it's just another one of their constant revenues that remains moderately stable regardless of all the internet bashing/complaining.  Besides, by all accounts, marvel comics is still number 1 (last I checked)*, still turning profit, and quesada is still getting books to sell regardless of how many characters you, me, or anyone else may feel like are ruined.

I'm mixed on the EA/Marvel split. I didn't think marvel nemesis looked all that good, so EA losing it doesn't bother me all that much. In fact, I haven't really enjoyed a marvel fighter since Capcom stopped making them (though I tolerated Xmen: Mutant academy 1 and 2 in the past). EA did make a pretty nice cgi movie before the game was canceled though. That's the bright side for now. :P

based on some stats I saw a month or two ago

TheMarvell

well, I'm a little disappointed. I actually thought it looked like fun, and a lot better than Marvel Nemesis. Oh well. Hopefully someone else will pick it up and finish it.

Proceed with caution, BlueBard.  Here is the translation from Spuddish to English:

BB, officially I'd like to kick you in the side.

I, too, am a little dismayed that this game may not come to fruition.  I agree with Prem that the teaser looked very tempting (Of course, what well done teaser does not look tempting?).  I'm not much of a fighter game fan, being more inclined toward the strategy and RPG game genres, but I did like the look of this game.  :(

What ever happened to Tater Tot?

That sucks. I would have loved to see a good 3D Marvel fighting game.
