I know George didn't believe in religion or God... but I bet that -- if there is an Invisible Man in the Sky that he always spoke about so irreverently about -- he/she/it will welcome George with open arms. 

I don't think there was a sharper mind or better student/master of language than George Carlin.  And man did he make us laugh at our own absurdities and hypocracies.

It's quite funny actually, i know george Carlin from Thomas the tank engine, i mean when it was good and Shinning Time was still around. Ironically enough, i am a gigantic beatles fan and there would be those few episodes where george carlin wasn't Mr. Conductor, and Ring Starr had taken the role. I HATED Ringo as Mr. C. I don't know why, maybe because George brought the character to life. As far as him not believing in God, well, It might have been something he had come up with for one of his many routines. He might have just put the bible away before he got on stage. Either way, a great soul has been taken from us yet again.  R.I.P. George

Zounds!  Why must great human beings deem it necessary to pass away while I'm away on holiday?  I will always consider Carlin to be one of the supreme comedic groundbreakers with the likes of Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor.  Though he has taken his last breath, he will still have the last laugh from and on us all.

That's what I liked him from. He was a good train station leprechaun, even though I'm positive he's never said anything funny in his life, ever.

I'm with Spud on this one.
If there was one guy in the world who had an open honest beef with religion (not spirituality perhaps, but religion) it was George.

GC was a famous anti-authoritarian and deeply suspicious of those who ask for our obedience and trust or would claim to hold power over others.  This would include many religions and religious figures.  But it does not follow from this that he was anti-religious or did not believe in God/gods/tree spirits.  In fact, Fresh Air replayed excerpts from various interviews earlier this week.  He was the product of Catholic education (granted, a very progressive and liberal school) and maintained close relationships with some of the nuns and teachers throughout his life.
