Glitch Girl

See.  This.  Movie.

I never thought you could make a charming post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie, but they managed to do it AND do it with minimal dialogue too.

I will keep this as spoiler free as possible but look for...
  • liberal use of "Hello Dolly"
  • references to 2001: a Space Oddysey
  • "John"  (guess who voices him  ;) )
  • the color red
  • artistic evolution during the credits and the BnL logo afterwards (admittedly not much of a bonus for sitting through the credits, but cute none the less)
Also showing - "Presto" a pixar short about a hungry rabbit and the magician who owns him.  Frickin' hillarious.

I saw this last weekend and it's definitely one of the best movies to come out this year. Even though that might not be saying much, I think it's definitely one of Pixar's best movies, which IS saying something (this is definitely better than Ratatouille, Cars, and A Bug's Life). It's surprisingly touching, emotional, and strangely foreboding at the same time. It's also a great movie to take a date to or bring your kids to

This movie rocks, another Pixar classic for the ages. I nearly cried at the end... gosh, I love Wall-E. He's sorta like a robotic E.T.

Though it is supposed to be a kids movie, sort of, I still loved it, and I'm 18. So it's a flick that anyone of any age can go and see, and most more then likely enjoy.

Saw it with all three of my kids on opening day...the youngest being my 4 year old daughter.  We all loved it!  The story was great, the robots endearing, the anmiation excellent.  The moral message socked me like a sucker punch (in a good way).  Sure, I should have known.  But y'know what?  We are treating our Earth like crap!  We need to take care of our planet.  And, as a nutritionist, the message of everyone on the ship being obesely fat AND horribly inactive was not lost on me!  Does anyone not know that we in the West are in the midst of an obesity epidemic?

Any how, great and fun moive with a great message!  I do recommend it!

Oh man, I feel like Im sorta being the Grinch when it comes to summer movies this year.
Now I did like the movie. I thought it was good...but....

My problem was that I think the first act (which is amazing) didn't mesh well with the second act (it found itself again by act III). I kinda got the feeling that after the whole set up and beginning, they kinda lost their confidence in being able to pull off a much more subtle and minimal kind of character film, and had to revert into classic pixar mode with the zany robots and funny characters running around like a Marx Bros. movie -- which is fine if they hadn't had such a strong and unique first 30 minutes. And i felt that aside from the really good "space dance" scene, they two main characters got short changed in the middle while the plot and conflict got wedged in there. By the end I think it recovered, but just overall felt a little disjointed.

Short Review:  A good movie - nowhere near the work of genius art that everyone says it is (Incredibles and Ratatouille are both far superior films).

I kinda agree with Goggles - except for the space dance, the middle felt padded and preachy. And it went for the cheap laugh, most notably with the use of "Thus spake zarathustra (sp?)", something Pixar usually avoids.  They shouldve cut out the subplot about the humans and just stuck with the robots.

However, Presto is my favorite Pixar short at this point.

ETA: BTW, given the complete awesomeness that is "Kung Fu Panda", I think Pixar's in for a dissapointment at the Oscar's.

Ratatouille is probably the only Pixar movie where I fail to understand the appeal. It got such rave reviews, like most Pixar movies do, but that was the only movie where I didn't understand where the praise was coming from. From it's previews, I thought it looked hilarious, but I only laughed a few times during it, and overall that movie just felt pretty bland to me (and the rat using that kid as a puppet with his hair was just silly). I thought Wall-E was far better and I don't think it's environmental messages were obnoxious at all.

Really, this summers movie season has been hit or miss (and to me, few have hit), but I thought Wall-E really delivered.
