Pwime's skins - "I see now what I have to become..."

The Pwime

and the progress monster strikes again!!!


Okay, I'm ACTUALLY almost done this time.  For real.  I promise it's not a joke.

Although by almost I mean like, 60% done.  And only 40% done if I decide to work on the maskless version right away.  I figured I'd still use the helmet part of the mesh for the mandibles, and just alpha everything out around them.

anyways, aside from that, all I have to do is:  details (lots and lots), gold rings on dreads, complete the pieces of armor, and work on some finishing touches.

Different stuff from npi post:
I've decided that I'm going to release this "classic" predator with an unmasked version as soon as I finish, then afterwards I will be creating two more Predator skins (Predator 2 and Scar Predator), as well as making those PSDs for people to toy around with on their own...and I think I'll sneak in a few extra things in those PSDs, like maybe the celtic predator's mask and some trophy necklaces, etc.

Needless to say that's going to take a hell of a long time, so I think I'll work on some other stuff in between to mix it up, like finishing Syn's re-design and maybe another avatar. 


I hate mainstream skins because I get all perfectionist-y with them, whereas original ideas are great because you can add to them and make them better as you go along.

is there a specific mesh for the space marines thats based on the design from Aliens?  Or just a skin?

That is looking good Pwime, I might take some notes on how you got that fishnet pattern to look so real.  I have some meshes that might be from Quake or Unreal that were ported over to FF.  There are two dudes, a girl and a ninja guy.

Now this is something I really applaud. Giving out a psd file, so people can mess around with there own. Hopefully nobody abuses it, because it's a great idea.

Some of the armor is looking pretty sketchy so far (paticularily stuff actually on his body), but I understand you are still working on it. So I assume that'll get better.
The skin, though. That looks really cool. The little speckled details and crap. That is very nice.

Dude, that's lookin' sweet for a WIP.  Is that a hex of the Predator mesh that's been floating around since FF1, or did you make it yourself?  I always felt that mesh should be a little beefier - he was kinda skinny for a Predator.

Rev (and anyone else who's interested) : I don't know how Pwime did his, but here's a tutorial I found a while back for adding a grid to overlay on a skin.  I used it to make my 'Alice' mesh from Resident Evil (she had this kind of crocheted shirt on over her outfit).

heh, that tutorial basically sums it up, too...i made a 10x10 blank, transparent image, and with a one pixel brush (i used the pencil tool, for accuracy) i made the criss-cross fishnet pattern, then on a new layer I filled the whole tga with that pattern and erased certain parts.  Then, I simply duplicated the layer, moved it down 1 px, and slapped a gaussian blur on it to make a shadow effect.


as for the hex, yes, it is the same one.  I don't know if I can beef him up a bit with nifskope...though I think I once saw a tutorial on how to do so, perhaps it was Syn's...

anyways, I haven't really spent much time with this wip in-game, though i think i may have to make him a tad taller, too.

Yes, quite a bit has been done on the predator since the last pic.  I'm working on shadows on the plates, but there's just so much involved with the predator mesh, especially for someone like me, that I decided it was time for a break before I got fed up with it.

So here's what I started working on again.  :P

Compare it to the old pic, and you can see I've done quite a bit.

Just gotta tweak the cape and make a portrait shot, though any changes/suggestions that Syn himself or anyone has will be taken into consideration before i release him.


EDIT:  By the way, this skin is animated.  See the bright spot in the middle of his arm tatoo?  ^_^

Man oh man. I love the Syn skin. That is very powerful. I don't think I would change a thing. Great work.

I've got to say, that jean texture is pretty amazing. And an animated skin, eh? I was thinking you'd do something with his tattoos when I saw your post in the hex forum. I think I'll have to play with those some day...

I can't think of anything I'd change, either. It's great.

Great detail in that Syn skin! The tattoo surely caught my attention, but even the Jeans' texture is top notch.

The "Anti-Unko."

Everything so far is just a placeholder to give you an idea of what I'm doing with it.

Here's the (very meh and poorly proportioned) sketch:



As it says on the paper, there's going to be five of them:  The main one that I've started skinning, who is sort of like the commander; a fire version, a "ghost" version, a speedy version (though I'll probably change that one into something a little more destructive), and a dark matter version.  The fire and dark matter versions will likely have animated textures, but nothing too special.

haha, yeah, basically.

I told Unkoman that since I couldn't think of a way to change his avatar at all, I thought about making a set of villains based on his avatar, except the complete opposite, like Bizzaros.

Unkoman & clones have big goofy grins?  These guys are pretty stern and ticked off.  Unkoman has a bright costume?  These guys have pretty dark costumes.  Unkoman uses his powers for good?  Well, no matter how hard these guys were to try, they couldn't, even if they wanted to: their powers are extremely destructive.

For a backstory, I was thinking something along the lines of the main guy (the one I'm working on right now) being created as an evil clone from the DNA of the original Unkoman, and then, enhanced with super strength, etc.  Then the leftover DNA was "enhanced" with other properties, and turned into several other clones.

So basically, we have a leader figure, and then a few other clones with really dangerous powers.  There sole purpose in life is to take down Unkoman and anyone else that gets in the way.  I don't know why they'd wanna do that, though.  Unko's a pretty cool guy and all...  :blink:

Jeez.  What a bunch of jerks these guys are.  :lol:

For speedy, I have an idea... How about speedy AND radioactive?
I once made a fella called Nuclear Holocaust who was a nazi with a flaming skull, and had speed/radiation. He was a pretty destructive force.

I have no idea how my avatar would stand up to these guys. Dumb luck would be all he'd have.

Anyhow, it's look pretty sweet. I still love the drawing, honestly. Ack, you got me excited, fella.

If we're talking about your previous design...strategy, baby.  :cool:

However, your newer design looks a bit bulkier...I'd say he could probably go toe to toe with the "commander" of these guys.

As for the radioactive speedster...I like the idea.  Sounds pretty awesome, though I think he'd work best with particle emitters.  Still, I have some ideas that I could pull off with animated textures... ;)
