I am trying to enable the cheat mode in FF (not the second game vs. the Nazis).  I have searched for the "init.py" file as instructed by every cheat tutorial to enable the console.  Interestingly, though that file does not exist, what does come up is "external init" and an "init" file...both under "irrational games" and "freedom force".  The "external init" seems to have the most code in it.  The other "init" file has just one line of code in it.

If it matters, I am running windows XP home pack 2 for which I had to download the patch to get the game to work at all.

Ok, here's my question: does anyone know if the normal cheat procedure will work with either of the two files that I mentioned earlier?  And if so, which one?

A bit of side note might be in order.  I don't need to cheat...I just mostly want to enable the cheats so that I can recruit my custom characters right away in the campaign.

Any help that you can provide is appreciated.   :)

Make sure you've read the Miscellaneous FF Game Topics / FAQ, stickied at the top of this forum. For FF, you will be looking for init.py.

I actually looked for "init.py" and I can't seem to find any such file.  And what I was wondering is if it might be called something else given the patch that was required to be used for XP pack 2?  And if so, can I use the same stretch of code given commonly in cheat advice for FF1and also under what file.

Also, I am wondering if I might be missing something.

Oh, and I did look under FAQ but a good portion of the content appears to be missing.

Thanks for your response.  I still value any other help though!

  Did you actually go to the link that I posted? It not only has notes on enabling the console, but that thread also has notes on being able to see your files and their actual names, so it's easier to tell if something is missing or not.

If the first FF, the file must be init.py. The patch doesn't affect the name.

D'oh!  Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, ok that makes a lot more sense!   Thanks for your help.  I'll try that!
