Turning to look at the grouping of skeletons ready to pour out of the doorway, Og notices the unarmed Dakkon.  His face screws up a bit, and the others all swear they can hear rusty, rarely-used gears grinding.  His head pops up after a moment or so, his eyes opening wide, as if he's been surprised.

Quote from: Gremlin on February 22, 2007, 08:48:19 PMWith a mighty heave, the ogre yanks the chains out of the wall.  The pegs holding them in fly across the narrow cell, looping through the cell bars.  They're about two or three feet long, and the manacles themselves are very tight on his thick wrists.
"Og have idea!  Blue elf!  Og throw, you catch."

Og then tosses the halberd to Dakkon, cross-wise, so that he should be easily able to catch it on the haft (he may not be smart, but he knows better than to toss it point first!).

Now relieved of his burden, he looks down at his manacles, and grasps each chain on the same hand it's attached to, as close to the manacle as possible.  Thus armed with 2-3 feet of chain in each hand, he starts to slowly swing the one in his right hand in a circle, preparing to flail whatever skeletons advance to splinters.

BentonGrey

Dakkon deftly snatched the improvised polearm out of the air, spinning it to test its heft.  A wide grin slowly spread from pointed ear to pointed ear, as Dakkon turned once more to the oncoming mass of walking death, a glint in his eye.

Gremlin

Orloid rolls up his sleeves and offers a swift prayer.  A wave of blue light flows out from his body, swathing the room in a warm glow.  A strangely calming humming seems to come from the elf as the pulses of energy stretch outwards.  As the waves come into contact with the skeletons, the undead glow blue themselves, becoming enveloped in light.  And once Orloid's humming and prayer stops, the light ceasing it's path, the enveloped creatures are no longer standing.  No dust, no remains, they simply do not exist anymore.

The other undead behind them, however, are still active.  And there certainly seem to be a lot of them.  There appear to be no torches in their hallway, but the little light that comes in from the room/hall you're already in illuminates quite a few of them.  The small pinpoints of green light in their eye sockets also show you some of the creatures.

BentonGrey

OOC:  Hmm....I suppose that we have no choice then.  Dakkon will wait until the spells stop flying, and then use the polearm's reach to support Og.

Lord Elcorion

i'll hold my action until grem resolves reeps turning attempt, then if any skeletons are still standing, i'll zap 'em ((i THINK i have eldritch chain, but those notes are at home and i am not.. if i do, i'll use that as appropriate to take out 2 skeletons at a time.))
and so the zapping shall begin

konbiz

Shahzir starts casting magic missile at the skeleton hordes.

OOG: Was my grease spell successful?

Lord Elcorion

"have you got something a bit more.. devastating? a fireball, mabe?"

konbiz

"Well lass I thought that this spell would take out more than one of these beasts at a time, but if ye would like ta see more of me darker side"

Shahzir gives a playful wink to the warlock, starts waving his hands and starts casting fireball.

"So lass I'm sensing things are..... heating up between us"

BentonGrey

Dakkon grimaced at the bad pun, and then began backing up from the ensuing conflagration....

Gremlin

The skeletons beyond range of the turning begin to crawl through the door.  The first six slip on the magically lubricated floor, but other skeletons clamber over them to get to you.  The warlock's eldritch blasts are quite effective, moreso than Shahzir's missiles.  His fireball, however, obliterates quite a few from the hallway.  A massive cloud of ash and scorched bone dust flies out of the door and fills the room, leaving you all coughing and blinded.

konbiz

"Oh anything but that! No! The pain. Why did this have te happen te me!"

Shahzir chokes on the cloud of dust.

"It burns! Me beard anything but me beard! Do you know how long it takes to groom this beauty! My hard work, ruined!"

A loud thud can be heard. Silence.

"WHY IN THA HELL DOES THIS FLOOR BE SO SLIPPY!"

Gremlin

OOG: Well, technically, grease doesn't actually create a puddle of oil, it just temporarily erases any macroscopic friction forces in the spell area.  If it made oil, it probably would've caught fire, and then you would be really screwed.  But I'm not that mean of a DM...

konbiz

OOG: I really don't know what you're talking about...   :P edited to be more lore correct. Heh forgive I'm still a wee bit unfamiliar with D&D, but I'm reading up and learning as we go along.

Gremlin

OOG: Nah, I'm just joking around and playing the know-it-all.   ^_^  The actual physics of specific spells are really vague in D&D, and me being a big sci-fi nerd, I just had to come up with pseudo-science for a bunch of stuff.  Most other DMs just say it's magic and be done with it.

Reepicheep

If Orloid is able to produce another turn undead chant iwthout being able to see or clear his throat from the dust, he will wait until the noise of the skeletons is risen enough to determine that they are, in the majority, nearby, then cast the spell.

If he is unable to do this, he will do his best to keep his comrades alive.

Glitch Girl

Wow, looks like I missed most of the fray yesterday

Anya  tries to fight off the skeletons as best she can, mostly aiming for the neck and knees (bigger target and at least it might slow them down)  As Shahzir casts his spell, she will dive and roll out of the range of the blast, or at least try to if the grease spell doesn't trip her up.

"Everyone!" she yells and points at the stairs and starts heading up them two at a time ready to dodge anything that might be waiting at the top.  Something tells her that our best bet is to take out the chanter rather than fight everything he's throwing at us.

BentonGrey

"Sound thinking," Dakkon shouts back, following the fleeing woman up the stairs, concerned that she may need his help.

Lord Elcorion

Og! block the stairwell once we get up! i'm going to stay just behind you and keep blasting skeletons.

Panther_Gunn

Og moves close to the base of the stairs, leaving just enough room for everyone else to get by him (he'll move to block this gap once everyone else has gotten past).

"Og hope just boney things.  Og know things with glowy eyes bad."

Anything that gets too close gets a couple feet of chain upside the head (or whatever large body part is convenient).

konbiz

"Hey laddos wait for me!"

Shahzir picks himself up from the still frictionless floor, and begins to run, but although his legs are moving, he does not move, resembling a scene from a scooby doo cartoon. Finally he scrambles between Og's legs and up the stairs, flinging a last few spells on his exit.

"It will be a cold day in Alibazdamil when Shahzir breathes his last breath!"

Gremlin

OOG: Yes!  Shahzir gets a few bonus XP for a cool reference to the game world. ^_^

IG: You all clamber up the stairs, out of reach of the skeletons, Og whirling his chains menacingly and backing slowly up the stairs.  You burst out into a larger hallway, not quite as damp, with cells along the walls.  However, these cells are filled with creatures, not humanoids.  The closest one to you has something that looks like a thin purple panther with tentacles--or it would if you could just get it in focus, since it always looks strangely blurry and sort of like it's in three places at the same time...

The walls are more bright than below, with many more torches.  In addition, the far end of the hall has a small bookcase, but no door.  The room continues on your right, with more walls starting several feet from the close wall and holding animals.

If that was confusing:

This map is incomplete and not to scale because you can't see it all from your position.  It's just a general outline.

There's no sign of anyone else.

BentonGrey

Dakkon gave his companions a quick glance to make certain that they were all still breathing, and then, catching Anya's eye, he began to glide noiselessly down the west wall, keeping well out of reach of the strange creatures in the cages.

:OOC  Okay, Dakkon's going to do some exploring, see if he can sneak up on whoever is behind this.  Let me know what he sees.

Gremlin

Dakkon:
There are about eight sets of cells in this massive room, and as you walk through it you see a series of pipes and tubes along the ceiling, leading down into the room by the cells.  The ceiling itself is about ten feet high.  The monsters inside are varied, some appearing angry, others sad, and a few others sleeping.  One large dog with flaming eyes and a thick metal muzzle rams into the bars, trying to bark at you threateningly.

You can tell from the light footprints on the floor that the room is cleaned frequently, and that whoever was here before was alone.  It also seems like he had something wet on his shoe, providing for a faint track.  You follow it to another door in the south-eastern corner of the room, identical to the one below except for additional reinforcements.
Anya nods, turns to the others, places a finger over her lips in a "shhh" sign, and follows after  Dakkon.

Dakkon stares at the floor intently, then slowly walks a beeline for the southeastern corner of the room, where there's a door identical to the one from downstairs, but with a more metal bars reinforcing it.  You noticed some doors identical to this one in the walls around you.
Panther_Gunn

ooc:  how "small" is that bookcase?  is it big enough to block a good-sized portion of the entranceway we came through from the stairs?  If so, Og will try to hold it in front of the portal to hopefully keep the skeletons from coming through.

Gremlin

The bookcase is maybe four feet tall, three feet wide, two feet deep.  The doorway is five feet wide and ten feet tall.

Panther_Gunn

Using both hands, Og will turn the bookcase sideways, and try to use it like a big shield, centering the 4 ft section widthwise in the corridor, keeping it about 1.5 ft off the ground.  Anything that tries to crawl under will get a stomp (if the two spellcasters don't take it out first), and anything that manages to crawl over (most likely on top of others) will either be shaken off, or get a headbutt. (just how thick is a half-ogre's skull, anyway?  ;))

"ooh, Og hope they hurry.  This no fun.  Boney things go scratch-scratch."

Glitch Girl

Anya puts her ear to the door: does she hear anything on the other side?

If not, she's going to try key "3".
