Yessir. It was made by our admirable amethyst amigo, specifically for this splended contest.

woah...im loving the work on the work on the costume and face, impressive

Very well done sir Unko. Thumbs up!

This is a incredibly well down skin but I have a question about head is the uncrispness due to mapping?

UnkoMan

There is uncrispness due to mapping, yes. I suppose I could go back and see what I could do with the shapes to try and get them to sit better, but I haven't had the time. Ultimately, I don't know if I could do it with the shape I decided to make the eyes, although Tomato's own skin looks quite a bit better in that area.

I may have to just go back at a later date.

ow_tiobe_sb

I'm really impressed with the (near-)final product.

(And I'm very happy that the sub-par belt does not detract from the rest of the fine, fine work you put into this redesign.)

Well done, Unko! :)

Did you pull the leaves+head from the copy that I had up on my site or the one in the Mod? I ask because it looks like you used the older versions, which were evil and had more then a few issues. The mod has the most recent version, which I'm working on releasing with 3 seperate outfits. The leaves+stalk had been completely remeshed, and I heavily altered the mapping on the face. You might want to check the skin with those pieces instead, it might fix the issues you're having.

ow_tiobe_sb

Something just occurred to me: there appears to be a bit of a Jimmy Vulmer look on this redesign's face, very much. ;)

I had to look up who Jimmy Vulmer was, but I see it now. Oh dear.

As for which head... I didn't know that you had redone it, actually. I suppose I just need change the mesh pieces, and the skin will work fine (or better)?

billdamn22

I love how this came out. I can't wait to see the others. Maybe I should get rolling on mine.....

UnkoMan

Well, I didn't get any replies to this in the request section, so I thought I'd give it a cross post here:

Okay, here's the thing... I'm suppose to be doing some skins for a fella. Only guess what. I don't have the time! But he could release his mod! Dang!

So I was wondering if anybody out there wants to give a couple skins a shot.
If so, here's the deal: I skinned a male Atlantean to be used as a standard civilian type for this mod. It's set in the Irrational Universe, so it's a silver age inspired design. In addition, it is similar to Man O' War (you'll have to play the mod to find out more).

Now, I started on this hex for a king figure for them. Thing is, I don't have time to skin it. Also, they need a girl whom I have no hex for but know how I want to look. Basically. You can use your own artistic merit.

Like this:

So... any takers? Anybody want to give it a shot? I can send the king hex.

Drop me a PM with a bit more info on the mod and I'd be willing to give it a whack for ye Unko.

catastrophe

if you send me some info about the king and the hex id like to try :)

UnkoMan

Well, DJ is on it, but I'll ask if he wants to splice the work load. It would sure be faster with one skin each right?

Thanks for the offer though. Greatly appreciated!

catastrophe

No problemo, im sure DJ makes the skins Awesome anyway

UnkoMan

Hey there, folks. Gosh, it's been a while since I did some serious skinning, instead of just converting old stuff into other stuff for people.

Quite some time ago I tried to make a base for myself. It was okay, but nothing special. Well, I decided to skin from scratch again, with a personal character that I've felt needed an update for a long long time. Well, I won't bore you with the details. I'll just show it.

What do you folks think? Make the highlights on the torso brighter to match the rest? Some people may say it looks a bit flat, but it is suppose to have that animated look to it. In fact, I was thinking of asking around to see if I could get somebody to figure how to put one of those auras on this mesh, to give it a sort of "outlined" look all the time. Is that possible? I think I've seen it around.

Anyhow, this sort of base, I think, suits my skinning style. It needs some touch ups, of course. I'd like to see what people have to say to help with that.

So, there it is. Thanks, folks. Hopefully your comments will help me perfect this. If so, I may just release this "cartoon base" to the public.

detourne_me

well that design looks realy cool! kind of like the Maxxmeets the heckler or something.  i like the base sso  far.  i like the plain stuff. especialy the simple lines on the abs and shoulder blades.

i think Bearded had made some cell shaded meshes.  that might achieve the look you are goin for  ^_^

AfghanAnt

How did I miss the awesome? I really like your base and your originals are among my favorites hands down. They are always so witty and charming. I could see them being written by Keith Giffen.

I can't wait to see this skin finished.

Have you thought about skinning your Youngblood redesigns? I honestly think you gave characters I have no interest in at all charm.

BentonGrey

Always glad to see something new from you Unko!  Looks pretty awesome. :)

UnkoMan

Thanks guys!

Keith Giffen, I could only hope. I really like his more upbeat stuff.

As for the meshes, thanks for the links. Bearded's is most what I am looking for, but I could only find male_belt. Looks a bit weird on male_basic. I may go with a skoped version of the other one, but I may just have to see if Bearded would be able to do a male_basic_noface version for this fellow, and male_basic for more.

I actually wouldn't mind doing quite a few different guys with a sort of animated look, outline and all. We'll see!

UnkoMan

Alright, so here's what he ended up looking like:

I used the aura from fxforce. It makes the characters look a bit thick, but actually... I like it anyhow. I also uploaded the base skin at my first yahoo group. It's pretty much just a black and white version of the pure yellow skin seen above. The face is the same featureless roundness that I did down there. Do you folks think I should make a base face for it? Or do it in skin tones, as well? I might get lazy.

PS: About those Young Bloods... No, I never considered skinning them. And to be honest, I probably won't, although I do have the base for it now. If anyone else wants to, I won't stop them.

EDIT: Wow! I am looking at this now on my fairly new mac, instead of my old PC, and I must say the tonal difference are vast. On my PC the refl on the black is barely noticeable, but here it really stands out a lot. On the other hand, the D logo seems to have a richer, and again darker, quality on my PC, whereas on the mac it tends to bleed too much and end up a bit flat. Not to mention the black outline ends up grey on the mac! Very interesting.

Volsung

UnkoMan

Thanks, Volsung.

Welp, I updated my Creeper hex, since I found something that makes a way better back fur. Tommyboy's Kraven! I also did a quick extra basic skin, for those people who wanted a more "scary" looking face, like he has been sporting lately. The original face is still set as default.

So here he is!

AfghanAnt

Nice. I prefer a happier Creeper but I love the fur work.

Outcast

Oh yeah! Loving your Creeper skin Unko! It looks really great with Val's keyframe. Thanks for sharing.

billdamn22

Good to see a proper Creeper out there. I too prefer the happier face, but I can see why you would do the other one. I may have to use that fur....... ;)

UnkoMan

Thanks a lot, fellas. Yeah, the fur piece is pretty good. I'm glad I found it. I should have known to check tommyboy's stuff in the first place.

As for liking the happy face, they are both included in the download, just so you know. In fact, the happy face is default.

UnkoMan

Okay, here's a little preview for everybody.

It's an original character, The Corpse.

Just wanted to gauge how I'm doing so far. I didn't use any sort of base on this one, so it's taking a while to make sure placement is right with everything and it looks like my drawings. Turning those 2D pictures into 3D is harder than I thought it'd be. Especially within the confines of the original mesh.

Feedback welcome, folks!
