Master Skin List?

Sorry guts, but no, it does not exist.  There is simply WAY too much to catalogue.

I forgot who tried it but someone once tried to catalogue one skin made for every character and I think it wound up consuming his life.  He then quite it and dumped everything.

I have thought of this, too.

I'm going to have a good amount of free time coming up this month and I would love to contribute any information I had. If someone else is interested in setting up a list as well and letting it grow from everyone's participation, I think we could have a viable, and working, list of characters.

If anyone's interested in setting this up, let me know. I'll do what I can.

As for the Yahoo! Groups, if each artist catalogued which skins are in each of their own Yahoo! Groups, that would be a big help.

Maybe if each skinner gave a list of his own skins and where they are for download. Then some kind sould might take those and make a master list? Don't know just an idea. I'll be glad to give alist of mine. But keep in mind there are alot of skins and always more on the way. It will be a long list.

maybe start a new section on the wiki? throw in alphabetical sections like i'm working on the meshes, branching avatars, mainstream (break into company's if easier) and originals, then let people update the pages to include their own work

I believe each skinner posting who they have skinned was how the original list was started.

Still... guys, what craziness. You totally need to get some sort of databasing program with search features to do this properly. Then you could search by character or company and cross reference for skinner. Yeah, that'd be the ticket.

I'm thinking maybe instead of a Master Skin list, how about a Master Character list?

Some character skins go with specific meshes (like Beyonder's Hawkgirl mesh/skin, for example), so that may work.

I was thinking of going over the very basic characters from Marvel and DC, then find the matching skin/meshes for them.

Then go from there to the more obscure.

I could pretty easily give a complete list of all my skins, I keep a list on an excel pad.

If not, I guess I can start it up, but I'm not really familiar with everyone on the site. Regardless, I can start off a really basic list (Major Marvel and DC characters) and work from there.

a list might actually be more useful. How often do we see posts looking for certain characters. A centralized list listing each character and maybe major costumes that have been skinned would be useful.

Do you intend to include originals in any list that might get compiled, or only mainstream?

I would say mainstream should be the focus at the moment, since there will rarely be more than one skin of an original since it was someones personal work, and also alot less people would look for specific originals over mainstream characters. Although I can see an FR avatar skin section happening.

Yeah, the idea of a master skin list frightens me. THere are some good sites that contain mainstream work but for the indy stuff that's rookies like me passing through greats like caravaggio and sites with its own universe like npi.

Yeah, it would only be mainstream (Marvel/DC/maybe Image) characters..at first, anyway.

I agree with the character list because you have meshers who have created mainstream meshes. Were you thinking of doing one character per mainstream or add multiples if they exist. Most of them might be on Yahoo sites.
