Most fun hero(s) to play?

What mainstream (Marvel, DC, et. al.) hero do you think is the most fun to play in Freedom Force?  Either because you think the FF game mechanics make it possible to perfectly capture this hero's look and powers, or because you think his/her/their powers translate into a particularly effective or fun-to-play FF character?

I'm asking for two reasons.  One, just 'cause I think it would make an interesting thread.

Second, I need to play through some of the original FF missions to check on some stuff for my Secret Defenders mod, and I'd like to try some new heroes - neither FF nor anyone on my Defenders roster.
So if you have a 4-person team you'd especially recommend, I'd like to hear it.  If I had a complete set of Incredibles skins/meshes, I'd choose that.

I'm thinking maybe some X-Men (Cyclops, Storm, Polaris, Kitty+Lockheed, Iceman, Colossus ???) or maybe a low-power team from the Legion of Superheroes...

My current vote for most-fun-to play?  Tie between Blink and the character I'm using instead of Eve in the Secret Defenders.

Talavar

The classic X-men are pretty fun to play, Iceman, Beast, Cyclops and Jean.  I leave out Angel, because he's not particularly fun in FF, he can fly and he can punch, but never at the same time  :(  Nobody's uber-powerful, so it's not a cake walk.

Though I also like playing as 4 of the classic JLA: Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, and either GL or the Flash.  It's the definition of a cake walk, but it's got its own perverse fun to it.

detourne_me

fantastic four of course!
a nice mix of ranged, melee, area and defences,  but damage types are pretty much limited to crushing, fire and what you like to use for invisible woman (i use crushing usually)  but nice ffx fun adds tk for sue, and long range throwing of people for reed.

another good mix is spider-man, iron man, doctor strange and deadpool/punisher

the nearly classic x-men is a good lineup too, nightcrawler, storm, wolverine, colossus.  a good mix of attack types... get wolverine and colossus to tank, and cherry pick with storm and nightcrawler.

Shazam

A friend of mine who used to be on these forums, once gave me his punisher hero file. I have to say it was the most fun character I've ever used. I found I prefered to play with such characters as they have limits. I always found If I had characters like Superman, Captain Marvel, Hulk etc etc they were very boring, probably because sub consiously I was making them way too powerful. Alot of people usually complain when game developers get hold of Superman and other similar characters, because they power them down. To be fair though if you played a game with such a character as he should be in the comics, it would be a very dull game indeed.

Carravaggio

in a similar vein to what shazam has said i once made a deathstroke the terminator hero file hat to this day is still the most fun i had in FF. he had a bunch of varies attacks, grenades, guns, H2H etc. and he was stronger and faster than any of the ordinary thugs, but he had to fight smart against more powerful opponents. regrettably i've never managed to recreate that character or any other so well.

Renegade

I love playing the golden age Vigilante. Of course, I've set it up with custom sound FX and a costume voice, so that helps. Just a guy with a guns and a rope, but I find it quite addicting.

Aside from that, I also like playing Billy Batson/Captain Marvel.

I guess if I had to stick to one though, I'd go with Captain America (love that shield throw).

UnkoMan

If I picked one I'd probably go with Green Arrow or somebody. Because he has a bunch of different attack types (arrows, exploding arrows, acid arrows, freezing arrows). That way you can exploit anybody's weakness. But, stat wise, he's nothing special so it's not just a willy nilly walk in the park. I find that appealing.

Although, taking a J'Onn J'Onnz or somebody, and going to town on people, is pretty fun too.

Jakew

My Marvel favs include: spider-man, Captain America, Hawkeye, The Punisher, The Astonishing X-Men lineup, Gambit, Magneto.

DC: Green Arrow, the entire JSA and Seven Soldiers of Victory lineup, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Shadowpact, my classic Suicide Squad lineup, Teen Titans, etc.

I'll second Renegade that Vigilante I is fun to play with ... I've had a heap of western team-ups with Vigilante, Jonah Hex and The Lone Ranger taking on Tommyboys cowboys and indians.

BentonGrey

Well, I suppose I really enjoy Green Arrow, like some of the rest of you, but I also love taking Hal into the RR, just because you can do ANYTHING with him!

laughing paradox

I really like using Vigilante, too. I love how his area move is him playing guitar. Pure genius!

I also really enjoy playing as Hawkeye. He's not particularly strong, but he's got the most varied ranged attacks out of all my characters (I think).

Another favorite is Mimic. He's got a power represented from each of the five original X-men and the Mimic attribute, so he's really a monster.

I'm starting to enjoy my Cloak and Dagger, too. I like how she feeds him energy and how he has his nifty area exiles. (I tried putting a swap for stun to steal health when he exiles them, to represent how he feeds on the light of his opponent's souls, but I can't seem to figure that out yet.)

I tried doing that with another character.  I think that stun and exile are mutually exclusive.  You might try it the other way around, making the attack rage swapped to lifedrain with a high stun swapped to exile.  But I think only one of the rage or stun will actually work.

I ended up making the power do energy damage with stun swapped to exile.  For Cloak, it might be cool to give him an area Balance power with high stun-swapped-to-exile.

Talavar

For Cloak, give him metal eater, I believe it's called, and set it to leech life from exiled characters.

Revenant

I've been digging the spellcasters lately, like Zatanna and Doctor Fate.  Of course I use the spellcaster attribute.

Ares with a private army and the ability to teleport is pretty much overkill, good stress relief for those tough days after work.

I also like playing as Firestorm, with the transmutor attribute.  There are endless ways to defeat opponents using the environment.

The X-Men is a fun foursome, really any combination of them is a fun time.

Martian Manhunter is a blast.

Medusa is sneaky fun.  You can petrify opponents, and then toss 'em around at each other till they break!

ElijahSnowFan

my newest addiction: Revenant's Black Canary hex with Vertex's female martial arts keys -- oh, holy mother of God, she just goes to town on thugs, cuts loose the sonic scream just often enough to be sweet.

Renegade's Martian Manhunter, as others have said, is always a blast.

i still find Gren's Batman to be fun, though sometimes the batarang usage is excessive.

my newest obsession: trying to come up with a decent hero file for the Red Tornado hex by Revenant -- those wind attacks, in my mind, are tough.

Of course.  That's perfect.  That's definitely the right way to do it.  (METALEATER or HATEMONGER - they're the same attribute with different defaults.  No I don't know why I always want to put ATTRIBUTES in ALL CAPS.)

^_^ Heh. I do it because it helps differentiate an actual character attribute name from a word that may happen to have the same name (e.g. invulnerable, slippery, air superiority, etc.) and from the template attributes like material, mass, etc. Also, since the in-game font is an all-caps font, the attributes list when building a character looks like it's in all caps...

Personally I like to use a rather mixed up combo of the Human Torch, Cyclops, Capt. America, and the Hulk.  you get 2 really cool range attacks with a flyer and a couple of decent tanks.  I agree that Angel, while fun in the comics is really wasted in  :ff: because he doesn't have a ranged attack, but Archangel can be pretty cool too.

BentonGrey

Actually, I really enjoy plaing the Angel and Hawkman both.  I give them both high knockback, really low damage ranged attacks to simulate a wing storm (helps knock enemies out of the sky or onto the ground.  I also give them both flying attacks (short ranged attacks) that allows them to hit enemies in the air and on the ground.

I like to play the the FFX tiggot, otherwise known as "-------------" because I like to play in watch mode.

That tiggot kicks buttox. It threw a rock to stop the big bad, introduced me to a nice girl at the bar, and was godparent to my firstborn child. I wish I could express this better than the tiggot itself:

But, how could I top that?

Tiggot, you are a friend, a confidant, a hero. And, maybe, a naughty word. But, mostly, a hero. Hip-hip-hurrah!

:P

Nice thread idea, Urthman. :)

Personally, I tend to follow a general recipe rather than reproduce faithfully an existing character: define a basic role (say, a tank) and the basic stats, powers and attributes related to that role, including notable strong points and weaknesses; give him at least one offensive ranged attack of sort (including throwing); at least one melee; at least one support power (beneficial or detrimental).

This tends to make characters which work well within teams and require different strategies depending on the team and the enemy.

If you're trying to do that with the area exile attack, swaps won't work. Due to a limitation in the FF engine, swaps can't be used on area, direct and explosive projectiles. Cf. the manual, under "New Attack Types: Special Area/Direct/Explosive Projectiles"; thre's a workaround mentioned there for area attacks, but sadly, it won't work for what you want here.

kkhohoho

What I do when creating characters is try to make them accurate enough so that the're still that character while still being fun to play, so sometimes a character won't be exactly as the're ussaly portrayed in comics, but still pretty accuarate.  I also tend to limit mellee attacks to characters who's primary fighting style is melle attacks, because I've found that it's easier to defeat enimeies by having everyone have a melle attack and then have everyone gang up on the enemy with melle, but that's pretty boring, and ranged, direct, and area attacks have little purpose if that's the case.  But if a character doesn't have a melle, they have to rely on their other powers, making combat not as boring as it would be if it were a complete slugfest.  For example, my Magneto doesn't have a single melle, but can easily hold his own against my Iron Fist and Zattana without one.  (I was testing ol' Magnus in that situation.)  He isn't over powered though.  He just put up his active defense. :P

Jakew

Case in point re: accuracy of powers (above) ... I give Hawkeye limited flight, soley because Gren's Hawkeye mesh features a Sky Cycle, which looks great in action. Eventually, it'll run out of energy and he'll be a regular foot-soldier again ... but you've still gotto exploit the coolness factor of that mesh.

flawless victory!

Hmmm... when the liberty Bay characters where all just Meshes and Skins I loved using them in the rumble room with the hero files I had cooked up.

As for AI back when I was going to do the FF tournament (canceled due to FFX being delayed and Freedom Rerborn being constantly down, might try again in the future) I had a character called "wrecking ball" who was made out of metal, very light and magnetized foes. Escentially he would fly around slamming into oponents until he would hit some sort of critical mass and release an explosion. That dude could clear a map in no time, all for like 7 or 8 k.

Unfortunately, no one has made a tiggot skin that looks remotely like she does in the comics.

well i kitbashed one,  so i cant really release it.

I know for me personally, I enjoy playing with my Thor.  Recently I've been playing with him quite a bit.  Although he is one of the maxed strength characters, unlike most of them, he's not uber invulnerable.    I linked his damage to his energy bar in a few separate ways so he can get hurt, but it's a challenge and a balance.  Beyond that, he has good melee attacks and ranged attacks as well

Actually I like to use a few characters like that, who are good melee and ranged and also defensively capable but not unstoppable, like a GL or Iron Man.

Also it is fun from time to time to take Darkseid in the DR and totally rule everyone who spawns in in a matter of seconds....

In fact, I think I might just do that now.
