Well, why not? Many artists here at FR manage to create amazing skins with free software and a mouse. All it takes is time, dedication (and some degree of talent)

Quick and nasty WIP of the son of the French hero, I deliberately wanted the younger to have a simpler, less impressive costume, in as much as he has to earn his stripes. I hope to transfer this to Syn's Quasar mesh for that lovely cape he has.
Also anyone want to lend a hand with translations for these guy's names? My French was always limited to 8th grade beginner's class.

Outcast

I like the new church members as well Carravaggio. Great costume designs, background story, and powers too.

As for the French guy, at first his face kinda reminded me of Jack Nicholson when he played the Joker in Batman. :P  But after a while, i think the face kinda suits him. Now, he seems more like an arrogant frenchman to me. I think the drawing style you adopted for his face, may as well look like, what i would imagine how a french/european comic artist would do it.

catastrophe

woah im loving these originals Carr! keep it up:D

yell0w_lantern

For a power-up does he pull out a glass of wine or a piece of cheese?

detourne_me

I LOVE the sons costume!
i also love the idea of a French superteam.   Maybe call thew the female La Fleur de Lis or something.
One problem i have with the father figure though, is that hes lower half has considerable detailing on the white parts, while the upper half has no detailing whatsoever.

It just seems a bit off balance to me.
It seems like a bit of a departure from your usual cohesive style...

Lunarman

Bwhaha, Man Grape is the ultimate french superhero of them all!

'Cos he's evil!!!!

MAHAHA

What were the names you had in mind in English?

yell0w_lantern

I love that!!!
Man Grape will crush you!

Volsung

My pride suffers a lot in this thread^^

I can, since I think i'm the only french on this forum!

Nymph

I like the first guy.....looks like the snotty French Man you would expect.

When you said the "Son" i thought you ment like a skin on the "Robin" mech from ink or something. Something child like.....because they look the same age.

As for a name....isn't there something in France about "The Unnamed Soldier" (But is French)

That may not be for the Leader but maybe a mysterious french version of Batman. Maybe the Shield slinger?

(I know this is random.....but maybe in the future....do you want to do a "Shield Maiden" type of skin. Where she has a huge shield? Idk it just popped into my head with now.)

Cool! But his face could get some blemish.

Not sure what you mean, dude. the face is just a temporary one until i have time to make a new one for this character, i said that in my original post  ^_^

Yeah the white detailing is one of the few things left to finish. if you look at his arms there are unfinished white lines on them as well. I couldn't leave the lines finishing at the waist seam, that would drive me nuts to look at.

Thanks for the offer Volsung. Sorry 'bout ur French pride, my intention in making this team was to move away from the negative 'arrogant' stereotype and present a positive and heroic French image.

Curse your fruity flavoursome powers, Man-grape! You'll never get away with this...or, the thing you are doing that is so evil...cos...we'll stop you and stuff....
Thanks for looking in folks, more in a day or two.

Carravaggio

Update of the son character, probably going with some variation of The Heir or Scion or Prince for his name.

catastrophe

keep on making originals, i just love these skins man!

johncostantine78

So, you make a German and now a French team...And the Italians? I can translate the hero's names...

Volsung

I do not see anything offensive in your work^^ But do not avoid irony only to preserve my feelings.I was just surprised by the escalation of terms like snotty, arrogant ,etc etc.
of course we can't reduce people to stereotype. But I know we're considered as...er..."ball breakers?" Every country got his favorites nation and peeves^^ (Japan absurdly loves france^^)
I'm capable of self-derision .The incoming Lord Volsung will blow the whole community's mind away! He will be definitely the jewel of my freedom force collection! Completely insane concept!!!! A icone of arrogance and megalomania.FeAr HIm! fear me!!!
Rendez vous Imperialist pigz!  :P

Outcast

Sorry Volsung. Didn't mean to imply every french was arrogant. Well, the face Carr drew could really pass as a French/European hero/villain. I don't know, maybe it's the high eyebrows that's giving him that somewhat arrogant demeanor. The son could also pass as Lex Luthor you know. :P Lunarman's Man Grape on the other hand, looks french as well, but does not appear that arrogant to me at all. Maybe a really serious wine connesiour perhaps.  ^_^ Peace...

Carravaggio

Well Volsung i hope you decide to download these French heroes and put them through the wringer against your avatar :)

Which one do you like better, FR?
My first notion was the skin with the dark top region as the deep blue matches the original french hero (above), but I like the white one as well (its a quick and nasty recolour of the dark blue, the original will be a much higher quality).

Still a fair bit to go, mainly highlights (to lighten the dark blue and make it look shiny) and linework, as well as a new face, I don't like that one, too passive.

C&C thus far welcome, more tomorrow I hope  ^_^

Blkcasanova247

THE WHITE LOOKS HOT! I say do that one instead of the dark blue. Maybe even deepen the blue already in the costume a little as well.

Tomato

I liked the blue inititally, but the white is growing on me... maybe add a blue stripe or something too the mask, just to give it some depth?

Volsung

I'd suggest that you mix them.
You keep the blue one, (the 'fleur de lys' is more visible) but you keep the neck and head zone in white.

QuoteWell Volsung i hope you decide to download these French heroes and put them through the wringer against your avatar  :)
Sure^^I should be able to sketch some designs tonight^^

Peace Outcast

Podmark

Some really great stuff here Car. I've always loved your design and skoping work.

I really like both designs for the shield guy, but I feel the blue one comes off stronger in the end.

Lunarman

Nymph

why not try the white headed one but re-color the symbol to match his shield or match a diff part of his outfit.

Carravaggio

After taking all your very helpful suggestions under consideration, this is where I'm at. I'll release two versions, as I like both colour schemes, and you guys can pick the one you want. Also the darker design has got a new shield design that incorporates all three of the French flag colours on it.

yell0w_lantern

How about a Captain America/US Agent kind of story for having 2 skins?

Sounds like a winner, YL! I'll do that, thanks for the suggestion :)

The Shield's face, and his real life counterpart

This guy is the US Agent version of the Shield who took over after the original Shield was thought dead. The original returned some years later, only to find his identity usurped. When he revealed the truth, the public voted to keep the new Shield, as they had approved of his tactics more than those of the original.
Disillusioned, the original left the public eye, and returned in a new guise working as a freelance mercenary in the Private Australian Territories.
Thanks again for the suggestion YL.

Carravaggio

Vanquish, the blaster of the French team. The blue, white and red stripes are meant to form a V shape on his chest, acting as a subtle symbol of his name.
Only one more to start and the other few to finish and this team will be done and ready for download.
Still working on a name for the team itself, something about protecting or defending, France has a history of Democracy, I believe, so I'd like to have that represented by this team.

Blkcasanova247

Coolness! Hey Car did you ever complete your Googlepages site?

Carravaggio

Nah it's still in the works, I need to get all the portraits and readmes done before the site can go public. Its close tho, just need a day to sit down and finish it all.
