Deaths Jester

Where's his hair?!?!  :P

But really good work so far, mate...I'll comment more when ye get a bit further into the skin.

Tomato

Monsterman looks cool, but somethings bugging me... the eyebrow area is just too flat. Maybe add a highlight at the top just to give the impression that it juts out a bit?

But yeah, I completely agree with the others, and it is a nice change to see a character who "hulks out" actually have a uniform in his normal state.

Doctor TOC

Man, I'm itching to play with these characters. Every one you've posted here seems to have real personality. I check back constantly hoping to hear the news that they're up somewhere, ready for download. Any chance you'll be able to find the time to put them on a yahoo group? Heck, I'm sure if you can't do it, there's no shortage of folks willing to do it for you!

Anyway, thank you for all your hard work and creativity. Just seeing your painstaking care and attention to detail is a boost.

Yahoo groups suck moose booty.  Skins... excuse me characters like these need proper presentation.

True, but for those of us who are HTML challenged, it is the best way to go.

Seconded, and considering that none of the amazing work in this thread has been released, maybe moose booty is better than no presentation at all?

Voltimax

What happened to your google page Carr?

:P

House Quake

Voltimax... you have mail.

Like I said... patience.

Truth is ... Yahoo groups are not the best way to go... they are the easiest.  I like them for thier ability to archieve... but other than that... more hassle often, than they are worth...  IMHO.  There are tons of free host with site builders and templates which require absolutelty no HTML knowledge what so ever.  Most are What You See Is What You Get type of site builders.  There are also free file host who allow zip files to be uploaded and linked to with no problems as welll. We used to maintain a list of the best ones.. but that was years ago.  I started the last one.. I may start another.  Because peeps should be aware of the resources which are available.  There are currently better options today than it was back when.

But moreso to the point... for Carr it's not just about the skins and skopes... its about the characters, thier stories and the world they inhabit.  The skins are just a part of the whole.  Yahoo groups don't lend themselves well to what it is he wants to do.

Hence he's been trying to get his stuff up on the web via an actuall site

Hence I'm back on my job after an extended break.. making sure that happens.

There have been major delays along the way  (like Carr's current PC problems and my health issues) but things are now moving forward and they will be presented in a way he wishes.

Ares_God_of_War

Well gratz to both of you. This is some really good news  Thank you for bringing us these wonderful Characters Car and thank you House Quake for working on a way to properly present them :)

Doctor TOC

You are, of course, correct. It's a crime to rush an artist. Apologies if I seem pushy, but this stuff is so good! Time to practice my patience mantra.

A quick update;

Monsterman with his torn pants.
Big HDD problems mean I have lost a few skins and a lot of skopes  and the time it took to get the PC repaired has also delayed me, but I'm back in action and should have more to show shortly.
The time off gave me plenty of time to make up new characters

BentonGrey

Glad to see you back in action Car!  Monster Man doesn't move me much, but the face is interesting.  Did you lose any of your Ratzi team?

Blkcasanova247

Great! Awesome that you're back at it!

Starcade: Young Patriot!

I've designed almost one hundred new characters during my forced sabbatical, so its hard to know where to start. Therefore i just opened the sketchbook to a random page and decided to skin whichever character was there.
I think those thigh stars are a bit unnecessary, I'll probably drop them in the next version.

Cas: Thanks, mate, I have a lot of lost time to make up for!

BG: Only a few, not enough to slow me down :)

Blkcasanova247

Car you've done it again! :D That face work is just amazing!

billdamn22

I am really loving Monsterman. I can't wait to pit him against some of mine.

AfghanAnt

I'm digging Monsterman a lot. Is Young Patriot a Texan hero?

Outcast

Nice to see one of the masters is back doing what he does best.

herodad1

when you do finally release them there should be a flood of new original characters!any idea how many youve created to release?

I was actually wondering the same thing.  Phenomenal work as usual, Carr!  Btw, GREAT name!

Carravaggio

Spartas, superstrong anti hero claiming to be a descendant of Herakles. and his power certainy matches that claim. He views the world with ancient sensibilities in which killing and war are justifiable and expected. These attitudes bring him into conflict with many heroes. Spartas cannot understand why the champions of the modern world are so 'weak' and why they fight him.

I plan on adding a bunch of detail to the helm, but the colour scheme and design is as good as done.

Thanks for all the other compliments guys, its good to be able to make skins again, I guess the time away allowed me to recharge my batteries.

As for the questions about Starcade the Young Patriot, I don't plan on him being a member of the Texas Rangers, he is a solo hero, or maybe a sidekick.

Blkcasanova247

Nice one Carr! You know what though...I think that he could use another armor piece or two to go with that helm...maybe like a shoulder guard..or a pair of gauntlets and greaves. Maybe even give him that Captain Marvel cape...with the rope and medallion. But that's just my two cents

Podmark

I like it. Especially the face mask under the helmet, really gives the whole design an extra something.

Carr, while your execution is always great. Your designs are starting to read as repetitive. I feel like I've seen this one before. In fact, I feel like Hero Machine just spits out the designs for some of your characters and you skin them. I know you are capable of better work. Especially when I look at your sketches. Your Jewish Superhero sketch had me so inspired. I actually thought to myself "Ant, you need to step your game up 'cause people are gunning for you" but now I'm like "Uhmmm didn't I see this design already?" Maybe you are stretching yourself too thin and mass producing rather than creating. This was all said with encouragement for better design and more dynamic characters please do not take this personal.

For ramping him up I'd take Cas' suggestion and maybe even look at some Grecian armor for inspiration. Would someone who is descended from a Demi-God really wear spandex, and if he does, wouldn't he wear something that would be armor-looking at least?

bearded

on the contrary, i must say i really liked the Spartas design.  i like how the cape color flows all the way down to the boots.  the front part somehow in my mind carries the idea of the chain apron that soldiers wore in that period.

Gremlin

I can see where you're both coming from. Carr's execution is phenomenal. But he does use a lot of similar motifs; long bands of color connecting the various body parts are one. Minimalist design with one or two completely different elements is another. On the other hand, your execution is phenomenal, your color choice is brilliant, and those completely different elements give each character a distinctive look. Not to mention your terrific facial work.

Ultimately, I like your skins and I like your characters. But you are capable of doing stuff a bajillion times more unique than this.

UnkoMan

I'll nod my head in agreement with that. Carr is a marvelous skinner. Nobody can ever deny that. (Although I will say the "mohawk" part on this newest one's helmet looks a bit odd. I don't know the mapping situation though, so maybe it's the best that can be done.)

However, I do agree a lot of these guys look fairly generic. In fact, I don't view most of your characters as the mainstream a-listers ever. Granted, maybe you are going for that. I mean for those generic villains you were doing, it worked awesome. For these large groups of heroes, they always feel more like the guys you see standing around in the background during some huge storyline, then the frontliners.

Granted, this isn't true for all your characters... your African Justice League stood out a bit more. The wonder woman, aquaman really stood out. I think there was a sweet dude with hammers, too? And I recall you doing this other villain whose head was a brain in a jar. Now that's just awesome.

But, yeah, a lot of them feel just sort of generic. Monster Man, for example. I like the idea of using the three different costumes, but the end result is just a large, hairless, white guy. He could just as easily be called "Huge." There's really nothing monstrous about him.

jtharris86

Ey Car you always surprise me and therfore I'm always looking forward to your work. Keep up the great work
