How do you get nifskope to start?

Im really sorry for such a newbie question, but i cannot even get nifskope to come up. I downloaded the latest version, 9.6 but when i press the icon it says the configurations are incorrect. I know I sound like a complete idiot, but could someone help me out?

Hmm, I'm not sure about the configurations thing, but I always just open it by double clicking on a .nif.

I just went back and d/led 9.5, personally. There's not really enough difference just yet to stress over it.
