now availible at my group

questions? comments?

Revenant

Looks nice, keep it up!  That's how I got started, re-coloring Irrational's skins.  ;)

BatWing

thx i'll upload it at the weekends

Spectral Knight

I haven't seen any of your other skins, but it seems a good start - you got your head round the irregular mapping Irrational went with on the character meshes - which is better than I ever did! Still seeing them now brings out a cold sweat in me.

You should try messing around with the Irrational and base skins out there on the default character meshes (male_basic etc).

LOL well I was thinking bizarre surreal dream Bullet myself.... looks like he's running from a reality altering event.

BatWing

i didn't know what to call him so yeah
anyone know where i can get base skins at yo?

BatWing

sweet
i'll start on making a ruberdude skin and put cool metal soles under hehehehehehehehe

whats up with the wires any ways?

The Pwime

wiremaps are...almost vital to skinning.  you have to learn to follow the wires, otherwise nothing you make on the skin will meet up evenly.

it's a pain in the arse because you have to be REALLY precise sometimes, but it's worth it in the end.

Of course, you can make a decent skin without one, but they really do help.

BatWing

i see
but i didn't use them when i kittbashed bullet

The Pwime

yes, but was bullet just a recolour, or did youactually paste new symbols and stuff onto him?

i'm talking about when you're making logos and stuff on the skin, or gloves and boots.  they have to line up with the wiremap on both ends.

Spectral Knight

Bear in mind - it's always best to check in Ctool - sometimes Wiremaps aren't that precise, or there's a bit of warping. Nothing beats precision than actually looking at it on the model.

BatWing

i see
but the paint program i'm using is still new me and i don't know how to paste/copy and cut

and i just recolored and i didn't paste any new symbol in. i just color over the thingy uder the bullet symbol.

BatWing

alrighty heres the first skin i've made!
hes name is raijin meaning in japanese thunder god

and hes out right now!
i followed hitman's instructions also so thx

EDIT: i'm also fixing my group files also

The Pwime

excellent stuff.  glad to see that you're moving onto skinning original characters, and it's good to see you using male_basic type meshes.

also, the files on your group are perfect now.  great job, Mystery!

BatWing

thx and thx to c6's male basic skin

Reepicheep

hey, thats pretty nice. Really good start.

You should keep this up. You could get a fair bitta mileage if you push yourself.

BatWing

what i neeed to learn is how to make symbols and hair

Alphanaut

Nice start. There are a few things that could use some work, but it's a good start.

UnkoMan

You know what this skin could use? Some seams. They are super easy to do, too.
All you need to know is how to use the line tool. Then you just outline around the different colours, using either the darkest shade or lightest depending on where the light is falling.

It really kicks the look up a notch, and I wish I had known about them way sooner.

Lunarman

Just incase you want another way to do seams, here's how I do mine: I go to blending properties (photoshop only though) and set inside glow to a colour slightly lighter than the area I'm seaming and outside glow slightly darker. then I set the size to 1px and the spread to about 50%. you end up with nice seams around your areas of colour.

BatWing

dang i wish i got photoshop
i have gimp but its too confusing and i have a paint program called paint.net

UnfluffyBunny

just to be picky :P
shinrai would mean thunder god, raijin is the name of a thunder god
(shin actually means the personification of, but when used in conjuntion like shinrai the meaning "the personification of thunder) is accepted as thunder god, much like, if anyone watches bleach, shinigami means the personification of death, which is the closest japanese word to death god or just death (ie the grim reaper), picky over :P )
