I just want to see the work of others be respected, those that did the work be credited and if some Meshers haven't given specific permission for their meshes to be Skoped...Don't be surprised if we end up with more PO'ed meshers (past or present).

It's good to see folks like Peerless trying to make sure they aren't stomping on other's toes with their Skopes...However, others are thinking it's probably okay to Skope a mesher's work just because they can't contact the mesher or the mesher hasn't been around for a long while or has left the community...In my book, it's not okay.  Those who are getting defensive (and acting like their entitled) should ask themselves why they are feeling that way...And maybe check their egos at the door.

Dana

P.S.  Good points, Boalt....And I agree, please let this thread continue.

Hey, I agree with you guys totally. It's why I haven't released anything yet. I'm really, really don't want to mistake a useable mesh from a non- usable mesh. I do art outside of this community, and I have burned by people taking my creations, altering it a little, and re- using it as their own... in a way, kitbashing my other work. It really bothers me, and I don't want to do the same to anyone else. Seriously.

At the time of my original post on the topic, I was (to say the least) not fully aware of the details of the situation, and made a faulty judgement. I was under the impression that Texas Jack had released ALL of this Max Files, and had given a general OK to edit ALL his files. I was mistaken. And I also retracted what I had said (albiet a little sarcastically, which was uncalled for).

Peerless is doing it the right way, and that's great. He's really working hard to not infringe on any unusable meshes. Good job, pal!

This'll be the last post I'm going to make on the subject, then I'll go back to being the non- serious goof I usually am. I hate it when things get like this. I just want to enjoy this game, and the outstanding community we have here.

So... just for the record, I agree that unusable meshes shouldn't be used, and I'm not trying to do otherwise. Lession learned.

(Wow... I think that's the most I've ever posted here... )

A couple of things I've been working on:
Billy Batson as "Major" Marvel, Master of magic:
Base: Capt Marvel by Renegade, Hood and all other accessories by tommyboy.

Mighty Mightor
Base: Male Muscular Hammer by Beyonder, Horns and cowl by tommyboy, trunks by fusion, cape by fidelo, bat by Texas Jack.  WIP: I'm looking to replace the bat with somethng more club-like. any suggestions? (Note: Permissions pending)
the Steak
Base: vxJohnny Quick I by Vertex, vxSuperman (v.1) by Vertex, helmet and boots by tommyboy, cap by Texas Jack. Note: Permissions pending.

Nice work, Doc! (Who am I, Bugs Bunny?)

Aside:  Due to personal RL issues...I will be taking about a week off.  I have to settle some stuff at work.  Be back though, and looking forward to seeing what every1 has been up to.

And 1 last thing about the debate.:  The reason I took it so hard...I realized I had stepped on toes.  A great many of my projects were posted and (if only by a few) downloaded by others without proper permissions. :banghead:  I am not proud of this, but it happened.  I apologize to any1 I offended (whether active here or not), and after my "vacation" hope to start up again and perhaps re-work the previous items.  And as a writer , I fully understand what gets ppl so POed when we just hack at their work like this.  A writer or artist of any real quality(whatever the format); and I believe we have a great deal of quality here--both old and new; puts their heart, soul and sweat into turning out something that they hope will be appreciated.  I didn't stop to think, so I failed in that.  :hcboot
I do not believe any1 here is out to viciously disrespect any1s hard work, and I hope others will learn from my mistake.  :)
Long-winded as usual!

Looks like we have this ironed out.  So what is the policy of creating DC and Marvel meshes and skins.  I know I have posted stuff that probably should be taken down. Turns out it was actually leached.  If that is the prober term.

Policy is Marvel is a pain and Dc isn't...Marvel cant seem to understand the concept of fan art yet they dont seem to touch or harrass other sites that do art work or make meshes for other games using their characters.
FF has always been a target for the marvel machine but, the simple solution is just dont make it blantantly clear a mesh is made from thier character's.

Skins are different you have no hope of hiding a skin if it's meant to look like a certain character so all you do is just post it or put it up on a site and hope Marvel doesn't go insane in the legal department.

FF meshes and skins are all non profit and really marvel and dc are just bluffing because if they try to stop people for one thing they really have to stop all the other people doing the same thing for other games and so far they have not gone that far or are willing too.

Just make your skins or meshes and if the Big M decides to send you note then worry about it then by then your skins and meshes are already on the net and even Marvel or Dc cant stop the internet spreading it.

I thought Peerless sounded more concerned that he was jacking some1 else.  Hope everything works out.

I can't remember who at this moment, but someone in this thread posted a method transforming male_basis to kid sized meshes. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how to do a similar procedure, but only changing them to 18 and 16 year olds. 18 would be a little shorter and a little thiner, 16 would be a bit shorter and then a little more thin. I skin a lot of younger characters, so this information might be very useful.

Pod:  All I know for certain, is that Hitman had the formula.  It works rather nicely, too.

Was awake with nothing going on, so I tried out a couple teen formulas.  They need help, but...it's a start. Formulas listed above skoped
"teen" mesh are what I used.

Podmark

Thanks Peerless, I'll probably play around with it a bit, see what I can get.

What program did you compare the sizes in? Did you check ingame?

Zivon23

I did a male basic 18 years ago.  It is still at my yahoo site.  You can grab it, open it in mesheditor and compare the values.  It was based off of the Cable mesh.

yell0w_lantern

For the child, I might suggest making the shoulders narrower, lats less pronounced and make the head slightly larger.

Podmark

well the t_fingers isn't the best base choice. It has broad shoulders.

Really just plugged it into NifSkope, then took a 1280 x 1024 screen shot from CTool1 , cropped out the bounding box/tool bar,  and put them next to each other.  Usually works out that it shows the relative in-game size comparison, but not always accurate....  No, I did not check in game.   I really must remember that one of these times.

The Hitman

Yeah, for some reason, bigger heads make the meshes look more kid- like. I dunno.

Instead of shrinking the leg/arm muscles any further, I found that making the feet and hands a little bigger makes the proportions work in- game. And yeah, depending on the mesh, the shoulders could possibly be narrowed a little bit.

What I want to eventually do is set up a kind- of standard for sizing different aged kids, and load them to the wiki, so if we could agree on some numbers, I can toss 'em up there.

Lunarman

QuoteYeah, for some reason, bigger heads make the meshes look more kid- like. I dunno.

That's because kids actually have a larger head compared to the rest of their body :D

Podmark

Not a fan of the bigger heads, but I'm thinking 15+ heroes, not really kids. Franklin Richards I can easily see with a larger head, but Tim Drake, who should be at least 16 probably 17 by now should be looking much more like an adult.

I'd really like to see some basic standards established. They'd be very helpful.

Shepherd

i know i've posted this on my thread, but i just want to share it here too...
a skoped hawkeye...

using vxGreenArrow as base mesh...

and btw... i'm having trouble with capes... like the Omni-man cape or any other cape... coz i just can't seem to get the hang on them... where do you actually paste the capes? coz i can't seem to find the right place for it not to hover to where it shouldn't...

It looks okay, but the problem it needs to be reskinned and I cant do mainstream, also it uses Texas Jack's keyframes and claws :(. But if anybody is intrested in skinning, has feedback, or can make contact with TJ please reply.

I believe BiL did a wolvie retractable claws and also, Syn did a wolvie retratable claws based off of TJ's.  I'm sure it is possible to reskope Syn's version to fit your needs........legally................prolly.

I tried BiL's but I couldn't get it to show the claws. I may try Syn's, but i was under the impression that he just made the extra's and it used Tj's Mesh, but i guess its worth a shot.
