The latest of Warcry's "Ask-a-Dev" series: Click Me!

Most intereting part to me was the following exchange:

QuoteLadyMage: Positron mentioned back in an interview last year about looking into changing SG membership from 75 characters to 75 accounts. Could we get an update on that? Is it feasible, is it coming, is it backburnered or scrapped, and why? It's a feature I know a lot of SGs, preticularily larger ones are looking forward to.

Serdar Copur: Something along the lines of this is definitely coming. In fact, I will go so far as to say that both Supergroups and Bases will be getting some much needed love over the next few updates. We are fully aware that MMOG's are all about the social element and we want to support that as much as possible.

Indeed, AND, how about this quote:

QuoteSerdar Copur: Issue 10 is going to be fantastic....a small hint can't hurt. Right?
So here it is:

"Issue 10 will focus on a level range that you guys have been clamoring about for a while."

mmmm.....

I assume that'll be 35-40.

Tortuga

I'm guessing lvl 35-45 even.  Space/Moon zone.  Co-op missions?

Space missions would rock.

I agree, so long as this sort of thing turns out to be a real shake-up of the mission environments.  One of my quibbles with the game design is that a contact's description of the place to which you're being sent is often tantalizingly exotic ("We've learned of an extra-dimensional world where chaos reigns and strange hydra-beings roam the nebulous ether.  El Condor, you've GOT TO GO THERE and check it out!), only to end up in....Boomtown!   <_<

Even the new settings in I8 Faultline were like an oasis in the desert. Imagine a mish in which you board a spacecraft, view a cut-scene of the craft taking off and leaving orbit, then exit the craft onto a real moonscape with less gravity.  Now THAT would be hot!

What?

Oooo...ya got me...ya got me....*falls to floor with a thud*

YES, absolutely right - the STF is very cool and new.  Ironically, while I was running it with a pug last week, one of my knee-jerk reactions was "I'm so disoriented! I have no sense of this map at all!", until I realized that part of the kick was that it was all new and unfamiliar territory.  :P
I will be dee-lighted if this trend continues into other, more regular story arc and mission stuff.

What?

I'm confused, he said Issue 10...states TF is issue 9... levels 35-40 have always been the "run out of content" levels....

Your point dogboy?

I was referring to the map-to-cutscene-to-radically-different map.

I would love to see bases get some much needed love.  The concept of bases is freaking beyond awesome, the implementation of the idea has been....meh.

I would love to see more interactions between an SG within a base - aside from the standard RP sessions.  I'm a fan of RP, don't get me wrong, just wish the bases were more "useful".

Just some ideas I thought would be cool:

1. The ability to have your own screenshots hung up as posters/pictures within your base along with a corresponding plaque describing the picture. This would allow SGs to create a historic archive of their deeds.

2. The ability for members of an SG to receive a base teleporter (perhaps tie this to an epic story arc the SG must undertake first). This way members could tp directly to a base then use their teleporters to move about the city.

3. Some way for base teleporters to have some visual indicator where it can take you - without having to get into the teleporter and clicking the control panel to find out.

4. I would love to see select missions require teams/players to utilize base resources to be able to complete the missions.  Kind of like how Batman uses the batcomputer back in the batcave to "research" information.

5. Bases for individual players. Batman has the Batcave yet still has the JLA Watchtower/base he can access. Designing bases looks like it would be fun, I don't see why only a fraction of the playing population gets to experience that.

Personal base teleporters are already implemented as a vet reward- can't remember how many months off hand, sometime within the first two years, though. (Edit: For more on veteran rewards, click here.)

Some attempts have been made to make bases affordable to solo players.

Personally, I'd like to see some sort of ability to include pictures and/or statues of team members in a base, but I suspect that that would be extremely difficult to implement.

One thing I'd like to see would be the ability to connect a base to a specific door in an actual zone.

Actually you pay base rent based on size now. The default size has zero rent and has more than enough room for a simple SG for a small group or a solo player.

But don't you have to be part in an SG to have a "base"?  I have toons that aren't in an SG, but when I click on the base portal I don't get an option.  I was thinking of allowing players (both in an SG or not) have access to a personal base.  That way I could go into my SG's base or my base.

I'm certainly not an expert in CoH, but how difficult is it to create an SG? What does one need to do?  I know other MMOs have requirements such as cost and minimum number of players/accounts sign a charter.  Guess I should go home and try it out to see what happens.

Stopman

I have a solo SG for one of my toons. Check out "Power of One"s base if you are in NRF, for an example of what you can do with a solo character's prestige. The toon is only lvl 45 and she already has 2 tp pads. Then you can form a SG coalition with a bigger base in order to access more tp pad locations...or since you own your own, you can easily change the destination if you get all your explore badges while in SG mode.

I'd like to be able to access information about (pic/bio/powers, same stuff you see when you look at their personal info) other SG members by viewing the 'mission computer' even when those people aren't online.

Starting a SG is really, really easy. All you need is a single character of level 10 or over. Nothing else.
