The current run on JL is one of those things... If you just hear about it, you think "Black Lightning? RED Arrow? LoSH? are these people on drugs?" but once you sit down and read it, you realize that it is a great title.

Anyway, back to skin critiquing nonsense... I really like the work on Black lightning. As always, the facework is spot on, and it's a genuinely good skin.

I do have a few things though... it might just be because he's up against that black background, but the dark blue areas look a bit too... faded. Maybe up the contrast on them just a bit, and darken them a little.

The other thing is something I notice because I had someone get on me about it awhile ago... I don't know why C6 did this, but his male bases... they're oddly gender-less, is all I'm going to say.

hahahahahahaha  they are very gender-less. no disrespect to C-6 though, I'm sure he did it so not to offend mother's and children.

If you haven't read Countdown #47 and don't want any of it ruined for you, don't click the spoiler.

[spoiler]

I soon as I read the issue I just had to skin her. I couldn't really find a suitable mesh so I just went with one that had less distortion in the upper region area. If someone knows of a better mesh I'd re-do the skin.

UnkoMan

Eh, it's not so bad. All you need really is to hex on a little skirt.

That lightning bolt looks real nice. You done good, despite setbacks. Oh female meshes, why do you mock us with your chestial distortion?

Podmark

lol awesome. When I saw that I was thinking of skinning it too, but you've done a great job with it. However, it does need a skirt, and I'm not big on the hair. Looks too standard.

Your best bet would be to use nifskope (or make a nifskope request to someone). Your worried about distortion so I'd suggest either a vx female mesh or Tom's tf_fingerless, add on a skirt (or you could skin it on) from probably either a tfv mesh or Fusion's Supergirl (can anyone think of any other good skirts?) and then some hair. I suggest hair from an Ink mesh, maybe his Rogue.

Otherwise it's looking great. I'm really glad somebody skinned that look so quickly.

the_ultimate_evil

nice work, agreed it needs a skirt, try using one of ink's women for better hair, also i believe you've got the bolt wrong

it's just that scene that has the white in the middle of the bolt....the rest of the panels it was all yellow including the cover. But I'm sure next week's issue will solidify what the costume will be.

.....I don't know how to 'skope guys :(

Jakew

Hey Murs ... do you take DC requests (although you're probably flat out with your GL stuff)? If so, would you ever have a bash at this character:

Scandal

I think it'd suit your clean, detailed style, and I don't think anyone skinned it yet.

Make a request I'm sure someone will help you out. I'd give you a hand but I've got my own backlog and little time for it. Sorry.

Here's my Red Tornado. Much thanks to Podmark for hexing off the belt for me.

Podmark

Looking good! I'm a fan of Reddy, so I was happy to help. One comment, and this might just be the preview pic, but the yellow part on the head doesn't look as bright as the rest of the body. Otherwise great work.

Yeah, it's the preview pic. I tried blending Reddy in with the background and it looks like I went to far in the head region but I assure it's just as bright as the other yellow.

I really wish he could have kept his human form, it would have been fun seeing him adapting to having real emotions and everything. Oh well.

Podmark

Yeah I agree, I was disappointed when he had to give it up, but at the same time I was happy because it meant there was virtually no chance he could die.

Here are Johnny Quick and Deadstroke. I guess that's his name, they really didn't say in the Superman/Batman Annual. The weapons and accessories are just a re-coloring of the standard that came with the mesh. So credit goes to who did those.

Podmark

Cool stuff. I find the Deadstroke design kinda plain, but that's not your fault.

Yeah it was a plain design, but boy was he a fun character to read, actually that whole issue was really fun.

The Hitman

Yeah, that was a good read.

Great job on these, Murs!

Here's the evil summers brother, Vulcan:

Jakew

That's cool. Is this the first time anyone's done him?

Actually me and Afghan Ant teamed up and co-skinned the all four Deadly Genesis X-Men. Though like almost everything from the GPL they are (say it with me everyone) not online anymore.

Thats looking really great Murs. The belt is missing the X buckle but otherwise it's really nice. The face looks great, and I like the hair. If it was me I'd go with a brighter costume, but I know thats your style so thats cool.

You should do his Emperor look!

I thought of putting the X-buckle in there but I think I based it off a more recent issue of uncanny right before he gets his shiar uni......

I'm willing to do a Emperor one, just need the right mesh. I'm sure he'll get one eventually since he looks like he's going to become a major player in the X-Universe.

Did you have a hero file for your Vulcan skin's? I know he's an omega level mutant but seem to always make my characters a little too strong.....thank goodness for USAgent's hero files.

Did you do Darwin also? I'd love to have that skin.

Thanks for the comments guys

Podmark

I think we had hero files, AA made them, I'll have to check though.
We did Vulcan, Darwin, Sway and Petra.
I'll have to talk to AA about rereleasing them.

Mur, I'm going to look into Skoping a Lord Vulcan mesh for you to skin.

That would be awesome, do you need some pics for reference? I could scan some pics from the last issue of the space arc if you need.

Podmark

nah i collect preview pics and stuff all the time. I'm sure I've got what I need.

All these years reading X-Men, and I never knew.  Your skin is great!

Previsionary

Very nice vulcan skin, murs. I like that you actually made it seem like his eyes are glowing.

BTB, didn't Rick do a Lord/Emperor Vulcan? That's the one with the odder design + white cape, no?

I think he did the one right before he becomes Emperor. It's similar to this one but it has a white cap and some sort of Shi'ar emblem on the chest. The emperor version of him has a headdress and some weird chitinous armor thing going on.

Yup, and he's a nasty little bugger too

If you want to read about him, pick up X-Men: Deadly Genesis. Some think it had a great start but ended poorly, I agree with the first part of that but it didn't end poorly in my view....just not as strong as it started, still good though.

the_ultimate_evil

i'm loving the seem work and the cleaness or your skins, bu i do think they could have a few blended highlights to make them pop a bit more

Yup, those highlights on the blue parts of the seams are little too dull, even for my liking. Thanks for pointing it out. Sometimes I take my desire for subtlety a little too far with my skins :banghead:
