Revenant asked via PM to join this challenge.
His DC character of choice is Captain Marvel.
As previously done, I get my single random character assignments by asking my wife to name the first Marvel character that pops into her head.
So his assignment is to cross Captain Marvel with... Kraven the Hunter!
That leaves me to wonder of all the Marvel characters she knows, what made her think of Kraven?  :P

Panther_Gunn

Maybe she has a thing for bare-chested guys in vests.

Nymph

the only interesting combos i found for a command out if the Pleiades(spelt right).......are

Smectam! or Tammecs!
the letters to try combinations are M E T A C S M

and for a name i looked up the 7th letter in the greek alphabet......so maybe Eta or Miss Eta? I like the first. ;)

for name inspirations here are the 7 Sisters:
Maia - Goddess of Fields/Greek Equivalent to the Roman Goddess of Spring
Electra - Her name means "shining" "bright" and "amber"
Taygete - "Mistress of Animals" and Artemis' hunting servant
Alcyone - bore several children to Poseidon.....(basic water nymph/oceanid)
Celaeno - another wife of Poseidon and bore him multiple children....(has many forms)
Sterope - married a demi-god king who inspired the chariot race in olympic games
Merope - married Sisyphus and gave birth to a corinthian king....said to have much patience and tolerance

Revenant

Captain Marvel and Kraven the Hunter, ehh?

I think I'll make him a villain... thats the only way i can avoid the massive camp factor!

The Hitman

That's hilarious.  Great job!  I might be inspired to draw Black-Bat again facing off with this guy....

Well, then, let's hope for some serious inspiration!

UnkoMan

Alright, here we go!

I was originally going to draw the bodies of a few other versions of Ms Marvel (her original look and binary) laying dead around the ground, but opted out. You'll see why, though.

And now, the story of Ms. Death!

Carol Boston was an airforce pilot, assigned to danger missions. When her and a small squad were sent on a bombing run to a possible terrorist outpost she was all business, that was until she discovered that the target was actually a peaceful religious colony in the snowy mountains. Refusing to bomb these peaceful people, her squad turned on her. She managed to take most of them out before she was downed. She had saved the people for now, but was left to die.

The monks of the colony could do nothing to save her, however, on her deathbed she had a vision of the goddess Rama Kushna. The goddess offered to reward her sacrifice by bringing her to a better spiritual state, and rewarding her strange and mysterious powers, in exchange for protecting the people of the colony... However, she didn't know it was a trick by a warring race of alien invaders. They, too, had crashed in these mountains, and using their last bit of life, planned to infect a human being with their memories and history. However, this could only be done at the moment of death. However, this merger happened a moment too late...

And so it was that Carol Boston became imbuned with the memories of the entire Kree Empire. Her spirit trapped in the realm between the living and the dead. Her former self cries out for heroism, but her insatiable hunger urges her to possess the bodies of others. To feed off of them. Looking for an end to her existance, she tried possessing the bodies of the super community, hoping somebody there could be of help. As of late she has formed a bond with one called Rogue, whose own powers of mimicry have somehow enabled a draining of the hunger inside her, without loss of life. Still, this is painful to the host, and their relationship is strained at best.

zuludelta

Great job Unko... I love how you managed to combine the Warbird costume with Dead Man's costume. Oh, and great job tying in her origin with Rogue!

gdaybloke

Mine's done, but my scanner's buggered... I'll post it as soon as I can nut out what the smeg's going on.

Pyroclasm

bumpity bump
Working on mine.  Hope to have something up soon.

gdaybloke

I'll try taking a photo of mine later, just so's you can see it, but until we replace the scanner, that's going to be the limit of my capability, I'm afraid.

Revenant

Since I was late with the last challenge, thought I'd finish this one a little early, I had Captain Marvel for DC and Kraven the Hunter for Marvel:

Young Billy Kravinoff always lived in his father's shadow.  His father was an internationally known big game hunter.  The secret to Billy's dad's success would become known to the boy, and would change his life forever.  His father had superpowers, granted to him by a mystical potion.  When he drank it, the power filled his veins, and any time he pronounced a magic word, he gained the powers of the mystical gods of the hunt.

Billy's father was killed in a battle with a supervillain.  An employee of the state showed up at his door to take him to an orphanage, but Billy didn't want to go.  He ran away into the backyard, and stumbled upon a hidden cellar that he'd never seen before.  By a stroke of luck, or maybe something more mysterious, the boy discovered his father's secret hideout.  There he saw arcane textbooks and potions brewing.  Before he could be caught, Billy drank the foul-tasting draught, and said the magic word inscribed on the bottle:

~KRAPHAN~

And in a flash of lightning, he had transformed into a mighty hero!  In his hands were a golden dagger inscribed with a blazing lightning bolt, and a golden net, laden with weights.  The dagger always returns to its owner, and can cut through metal as well as fire bolts of mystic lightning.  The net can expand in size to trap any foe, and may also sap their strengths and abilities.  He also felt the powers of 7 deities of hunting.  Kernunos, Rudra, Artemis, Podaga, Hinkon, Atlaua, and Nimrod all granted their strength, speed, wisdom, instincts, and skill to the one who held their tools.

Billy fled with superspeed, and decided to continue his father's career.  He would fight the good fight, hunting evil wherever it hid.  He chose the name Captain Hunter and set out to find his quarry.

Pyroclasm

Cool, Rev.  I really like the way you incorporated the bolt into the vest opening. :)

Rick Battlemage

Here's a sketch of Strong Fate (Not to be confused with Faith :P)

I did this when my classmates were arguing about how we should do our group presentation, why do they have to make things always so hard? :P

I'm still trying to think about what kind of 'Strong Guy' elements I could implement to his costume, though I might leave it this way since I kind of like it.

EDIT: I found this sketch on my PC and it was half finished. So here's Strong Fate.

gdaybloke

Well, several days after it was done and the scanner's still dead, so I pulled out the wife's backup camera and took a photo just so's you can see the niftiness and not accuse me of being a lazy bum. If you wanna accuse me of being a lazy bum, you'll have to use one of the other examples of my laziness.

Okay, so I got Rogue and Red Tornado...

I'd work up a backstory, but I thought I'd give you another reason to call me a lazy bum. Instead, I'll just fill you in on the process for the design.

Red Tornado has the red/yellow arrow thing going.
Rogue had the red/black costume with short hair, sunglasses, and a jacket.
These were the starting point.

Since people frequently mispelle Rogue's name as Rouge, I thought "Hey! Let's make her the Rouge Tornado!" since Rouge = Red in Frogspeak. The missus corrected my structure and informed me that it should be "Tournade Rouge".

So, the X logo from Rogue becomes a T logo, and we keep her jacket, hair and sunglasses.
Red Tornado provides the flared gloves, arrrow theme, and presumably (if I'd coloured it) the colour scheme.

Ta-da!

i love it G'day! :P shes soooo cool!

Revenant: Awesome entry... I love the obscure hunting/fishing/trapping gods' names that you used... never thought I'd read anything remotely related to the Aztec fishing god Atlaua in a video game forum. Cool costume, too.

Rick Battlemage: I think the design you have, as it stands, suggests enough of Strong Guy so that you don't really need to incorporate any Strong Guy costume elements... the one distinguishing costume element with Strong Guy are his coke-bottle glasses, and the helmet sort of makes it difficult to incorporate (but you can try and see where your creativity can get you with that one, you might be surprised)

Gdaybloke: I had to laugh when I read the Rogue=Rouge thing... great play on words and comic book fan culture. Cool drawing, too.

Okay here we go...
Texas Twister + Nightwing =

Story:
Drew Greyson grew up on the Flying "G" ranch that belonged to the Greyson family, a team of noted trick riders.  In his early teens, he had an argument with his family and decided to run away.  Two days later on the road, the weather turned awful and a cyclone tore across the landscape.  Drew took what shelter he could, but was caught up the storm and nearly killed.  Unbeknownst to him, the twister had already ripped through a secret government testing facility - strange radiation and chemicals  were swept up by the winds and bombarded Drew's body.

He was found by disaster relief workers with multiple fractures but still very much alive.  In time he recovered, but he soon discovered he has the ability to create vortexes of wind at will.  For the most part, he kept quiet about his new ability, preferring to hone his skills as a trick rider instead.

Things went well until manager Bobby Zucco sabotaged decided to "send a message" to the other performers after a particularly ugly contract dispute.  As the elder Greysons were in the midst of a tandem riding stunt, the horse started acting crazy, throwing both riders.  One died in the fall, the second was trampled to death.  Any investigation was halted under suspicious circumstance.

Drew always thought that Zucco was involved, but he couldn't prove it.  Even so, even after he was placed in foster care away from the rodeo, he decided to take matters into his own hands.  Donning a mask and a costume, he thought to use his powers to make Zucco confess.  Things did not go well, he  and the inexperienced Drew found himself outnumbered and outgunned until a vigilante crime fighter known as the Star saved his life.  She saw potential in Drew and offered to train him to use his powers to stop people like Zucco.

Drew "sidekicked" for a long time until he decided he needed to set out on his own.  And so, taking the name "StormRider", he set out to make his mark on the world.  For a brief time, he joined a government sanctioned group of heroes, but later decided he worked best on his own and continues to work solo to this day.
You wouldn't BELIEVE  how many versions this went through.  When I started out, I noticed they both had blue in their costume and started with that.  By version three or four, somehow the blue was completely gone. I also experimented a bit on post production with this one (a lot of the costume is post, much more than I nornmally do) and I learned that there are no decent tutorials on drawing swirling wind out there [sigh].  At any rate, the only thing harder than making the pic was coming up with an origin.  Those two backgrounds just did NOT want to mesh.
Pyroclasm

Awesome job, GG!  I thought it would be difficult, but you managed to put together a real winner despite the difficulty.  Again, awesome.

UnkoMan

Yeah, I've got to say it's pretty cool. Good job on the wind, too. These are all really great (and Strong Fate is HILARIOUS).

zuludelta

Well, just made it with my entry (it's still technically May 31st in Hawaii). It's an amalgam of Samurai (from the Superfriends) and Marvel's Multiple Man. Here are The Seven Virtues.

"The Seven Virtues were once a band of samurai loyal to a local daimyo. During a skirmish with a rival clan, all seven were killed in a futile defense of their lord. Impressed with their loyalty and bravery in the face of certain death, Fūjin, the Japanese god of wind, gathered the souls of the slain samurai and housed them in their master's body. Now, the samurai can manifest themselves at will as the Seven Virtues, Fūjin's representatives on earth."

By the way, for those of you interested, the Seven Virtues of Bushidō are the following: meiyo (honour/character), gi (integrity/righteousness), (courage), jin (benevolence), rei (respect), makoto (truthfulness), and tsūgi (loyalty)

Yay, it's finally done! And it is gorgeous!

MACH 3

Zulu, you should totally make skins and meshes for these guys, and make a FF character! They design and the story is incredible! Excellent work!

zuludelta

Thanks for the comments guys!

Haven't booted up Freedom Force or CTool in 2 years, and I don't think my current hardware config is FF-friendly. It'd be awesome if anybody ever decided to do any skins or meshes off of any of my designs, though.

Rick Battlemage

I finished my Strong Guy/Dr. Fate entry, just scroll up. Let's see what's next...
