Alert: init renderer

I just tried installing FF1 on another pc.   I added the patches.   but when I went to play, an error message came up.   The system is a windows xp.   I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.   Can anyone give me a hint as to what I did wrong?

I just saw this when I installed  :ff: on an old Win2K laptop.  I updated my video drivers and it went away.  ? YMMV
