Heya folks!

I just posted a new guide on the FR-COH site:
The Selfish Illusion/Sonic Controller

It collects everything I learned while playing Woozy.

Wheee!

Wow, Spud. As someone who will now run around with this guide tacked to his forehead every time I grab my ill/son on Virtue, I thank thee!  :)

Cool!  Great perspective on an Illusion controller, which I will definitely keep in mind.

I found out the hard way that Flash sucks and had to respec out of it.

I too took Superior Invisibility over Group Invisibility and aside from the huge endurance drain it creates while attacking from invisibility it's worked out very well when I've had to solo.  Just like the guide says, it's awesome for choosing -when- you're ready to attack (and be attacked).

One of the best tactics I've ever found involves sneaking up within range of a Boss or LT, popping Deceive on them until it takes, then immediately Blinding them if I don't want them attacking their friends.  The Confuse effect usually lasts longer than the hold, so even if he gets a chance to come out of it he's not attacking me.  Add in Phantom Army to distract the minions, and I'm gold.  I can even get away with dropping Superior Invisibility if I have to conserve end.

Of course on a team, getting the chance to sneak up is never an option... someone's always charging in and ignoring the Controller.  At least up to the first wipe, anyway.

I really do need to start an Illusion Controller..

DOO EET!!!

I'm thinking about redoing my Mind/Storm on Guardian as Illusion/Storm.  Maybe.

El Condor

Yeah, I'm not quite sure which secondary has great synergy with illusion.  Maybe rad? I have a Ill/Rad on Freedom, but he's only level 2.

Illusion's a damage set, but unlike Fire/, the other damage set, you can't buff half of your damage source, so you want to steer away from damage buffs and instead focus on resistance debuffs. That means your best bets are Rad and Storm. In theory Sonic is okay, but since Sonic's main AoE resistance debuff is ally-centric, and your only melee allies vanish after 60 seconds, it's really frustrating to keep that one up.

Condor,

I've got a lvl 50 Ill/Rad who is a ton of fun to play.

In the early levels, the Ill/Rad is best to play in teams.  When you get Phantom Army around lvl 18, you can start to solo a little, but its still good to team until you get them 6-slotted and have Stamina.  Once you do, though, they are very manageable solo.

There are only 2 problems with Ill/Rad controllers that you should be aware of.

1)  They are endurance hogs.  Stamina is a must and you may want to slot endurance cost reducers in a lot of powers.
2)  There are more good powers to choose from than you have available power slots.  There is just too much to choose from, so you wind up having to skip some stuff.

Why is it that every time I see this thread, I'm tempted to create a crabby-looking Controller named "The Shellfish Illusionist"?

Hmph.  Where are those Crab Claw gloves when you need 'em?
