By our Lady of Perpetual Back  Pain, That looks awesome.

Lets Organize Hero/Villian Teams now !! NOW!!!!!!!

Adamence

I've gotta say, that sounds pretty damn cool. I guess I will finally need to level up my villain, just so she can team up with some heroes.

Figure Fan

Holy crap! This looks like its not too far away.

I will definately have to renew my account for this..

B A D

Just thought of this hidden benefit to the Co-op Zone : IO transfer from your hero to villian characters!  So  If Weaponeer has Pikachu Slippers, He can finally give em To KO!

ThePrelate

holy crap.. that is awesome!

any guesses as to when it comes out?

I doubt that will be possible. The dev's have specifically stated that they want to keep the heroes' and villains' economies seperate, and durring the cooperative missions during the various seasonal events heroes and villains can't trade with each other- I imagine it will be the same way here.

Are you guys really that excited about this? Much as I like the idea of a major "world-wide" event, and teh hero/villain cooperative stuff, it looks kind of dissapointing to me...

B A D

In a word, Yes. The idea of  a "Galactus " like threat, that only the combining of forces of good and evil can prevent, is the stuff of comic book legend. Couple that its the Rikti, my personal fave, AND that  the monkeys get upgraded to talking chimps named Cornileous (ok maybe not) AND a new TF, this rules.

Viking

Plus, based on my reading of the description of the zone, there should be new mission content for levels 35-50.  If those are missions that are available hero-side and villain-side, that's awesome.

El Condor

Madre de Dios! Guess who's finally gonna be giving some love to villains!  :P

EC

P.S.  I agree that the arrival of an epic moment in the CoX story line is major.  This is very exciting!

That's the way I read it.  It doesn't specifically say that heroes and villains can cooperate on all of the missions, only the TF, but I don't see why not.

Now I gotta figure out which toon I want to pump up to level 35 so I can participate!

MJB

Nice! I hope we see this before the summer is over.

The devs have been dropping hints for a while that I10 was very close to going onto Test, so I except that there's a good chance of that.

Still seems dissapointing to me. Then again, I never had any problem with the current 35+ content- maybe because I've only had a total of, what, three characters in that range ever, so more content there doesn't particularly excite me. The cooperative hero/villain stuff would interest me more if it seemed like there was going to be a little more variety to it- I like the Rikti, but I'd rather see combined hero/villain groups fight a wider variety of opponents. In fact, I'd say that the focus on a single group of opponents is one of the things I find dissapointing about this- I have a feeling I'll get tird of fighting Rikti. It also bugs me that I probably won't be able to put my level 50 through the new arcs from the begining- normally, that sort of thing is fine with me, but in this case, the single character of mine I'd most like to run through these arcs would be Alaric 7... I also don't like the fact that the only new options of any sort for characters mentioned (costume options and temp powers, in this case) are done through the Invention system- considcering that I can't stand the Invention system (seriously, what exactly do people find fun about it? I'd honestly like to know), that doesn't really help my excitement level. I'm also kind of worried that we're going to have non-stop Rikti invassions on the streets for at least several months... For a couple of weeks or so, that could be fun, but for several months, it would get kind of monotonous...

I guess what it really boils down to is, I was starting to lose interest in the game before I9 hit. Usually, when that happens, a new issue is enough to renew my interest, but in this case, the new issue actually, for me personally, took away more from my overall enjoyment than it added. I was hoping that I10 would have something in it that would really grab me, make the game more fun for me again, but it doesn't look like it will- it looks like it will have some stuff I'll find fun, but not enough to really get my interest going again.

Tortuga

Woohoo! I think this looks like one of the better content-driven updates in ages.  An upgraded zone with new missions, new maps (hopefully the inside of the ship won't be the same-old tech lab map), co-op TF/SF, a city-wide invasion (the first Rikti invasion was a hoot), new l00t, and then some.

It was a wise move to open up the new zone to lvl 35-50.  I think the devs are seeing 50s getting played more and more since I9, so it's good that they build on that enthusiasm.

I know they said that new powersets won't be a part of I10, but I really hope they can slip them in shortly afterward.

Marmeille

Rikti Invasions are way cool, the end of beta one was really fun, chaos everywhere, monkeys and drones killing low level heroes by the dozens in SC, Kraken monster in the middle of AP, big ships in the sky, Kid Dynamo soiling his pants

I've been wanting to get inside the mother ship in RCS since the first time I went there, that alone is worth I10.

Figure Fan

Ok, now I'm REALLY excited about this.

I'm gonna have to push another one of my characters to 35, too.

RTTingle

...must fight urge.

MyndVizion

I saw this today and flipped! I'm stoked about this!

Personally I think more MMOs need to have more server wide events. These types of things are simply fun! They add a sense of 'change' to the game world. They break up the monotony of the regular world we as players take for granted.

Alaric, you asked what people find fun about the Invention system.  Well I think that has to do with another form of accomplishment. In CoH gaining levels have only been the primary form of reward. There's no "loot" in the game, like there is in other games (for better or for worse). The invention system is like having "professions" that other games employ. The sense of striving for something, and eventually making it, is a nice reward and accomplishment in and of itself. I love the way Cryptic implemented the system, because if it doesn't appeal to someone they don't have to participate - but at the same time the player doesn't get left behind in the process.

What I would like to see in CoX is an update to missions.  The missions, as they stand right now, are very bland compared to other games. Boss battles are so minor and trivial it borders on comedy. I would love to have more planning amongst the team in how to best tackle a map, or Boss. TFs are close to providing more flavor to boss battles, etc, but they don't quite suffice in the ways other games handle similar content.

But, I think at this rate we'll be able to get 3 Issues this year alone. At this rate, by the time players are tired of beating up on Rikti, we stand a good chance of seeing Issue 11 hit stands....err...the servers. :)

Durothill

While I'm a little sad not to see the 5th staging a comeback against the council ( i loved the initial civil war idea) the Rikti are a great choice they needed a bit of a spruce up in my opinion. Plus the fact that they just make the most sense for a worldwide event especially one trascending hero/villan boundaries.
well apparently the closed beta has started and the devs anticipate less testing time for this one than I9 (for fairly obvious reasons). I think lighthouse was talking "multiple weeks of closed beta" of course followed by the open one. So the wait doesn't look too long.
2 thumbs up for the dev  :thumbup:s

Hows this for a dangling carrot...

I can do something... but can't.  Would love to tell you guys about it.  But can't... not that I can do it anyways... because of what I did last week.

Because if it was, you know, signing an NDA you wouldn't be able to talk about that... not that you did; we're speaking hypothetically here, of course... So either way you have nothing to tell.

Tease.  :P
