If it gets the game moving again, I'd be able to readjust to a new beginning.  I'll admit, it felt a little daunting to start out this way, with all paths looking deadly, and a dearth of equipment at our disposal.

Good Lord, man... then why are you playing in the Paranoia game, of all places?

Because, at least that sort of set-up is *expected* in Paranoia.  Oh, btw, is that a grenade in your shorts?

BlueBard

I think I'd be interested in a Glitch Girl run game.

I haven't set up a D&D character in eons, though, and don't know what my options are.  I know the core rules have undergone some changes.

BTW... I think I can commit to at least one or two posts a day, save weekends.  I'd probably post more than that, but I can definitely commit to that much.

Glitch Girl

Oh I don't do weekends either: too much to do.

As for the D&D Rules, I'm going to probbably be playing fast and loose with them since this is primarily a written campaign instead of a "sit around the table and play in real time" campaign.

For returning players, if you want to keep your existing character, let me know.  If you want to create a character PM me ASAP, we'll see where you stand on rules knowlege and what kind of character you want to make.  If you have YM I can try to talk you through it if you've got a free weeknight.  This may or may not be a good thing (Yuan can attest to this part ;) )

Well, I had a free week night . . .

As for "my" character, I wouldn't mind the opportunity to pick something more to my style.  But put it low on the priority list.  If you get a ton of others needing to set one up, I'll stick with Orloid, no prob.  On the other hand, if it you feel up to doing the whole thing over again with me, that's cool.

Lord Elcorion

i can usually expect to get on for at least a couple hours most days, but since we have 3 folks shareing a connection that only runs one comp at a time, it can be iffy. my yahoo is the_master_of_many_faces though i rarely have it on right now.

Glitch Girl

S'okay for the moment Elcorion.  I'm doing character creation with BB and Viking right now.  If anyone wants to modify their character, PM ASAP.  Otherwise I'm going to take what I have for you.

Glitch Girl

Okay I'm getting some near completed character sheets, which means I may try to get this started as soon as Wednesday.  Is this okay with everyone?

Sure, why not?

When you get done with them, could I see a copy of Og's sheet?  Just curious as to how much detail you put into it, and where some of the more fuzzy/nebulous details ended up (as I never knew originally even what kind of NWP's he ended up with).

Uncle Yuan

Viking

My character is pretty much ready to go.

Actually I was referring to BB and Viking's characters.  As far as I know, yours still stands.

I'll give Lord Elcorion a few more hours to check in, then I'm going to try to get things started.

Do we need to worry about weapons, etc?  I know there are a few outstanding details on my end as far as nailing down spells known, levels, etc.  I'm kind of rusty and haven't owned any of the books in ages.

You mean, you aren't creating fully detailed character sheets for every player, like Alaric?  tch.   :P

Anyway, since what I originally gave Gremlin was sort of a rough outline, with only a few things set in stone (he said he'd do all of the detail work), that's exactly what you got, also.  Did you *want* me to nail down the rest of the details for Og, to make things easier, or will vague & generic work just fine?  ;)

Glitch Girl

It's up to you PG.  I will try to work in what details I can, but to start with things will be a bit vague as I try to get you guys started.  I'm pretty sure I have four players, possibly 5 or 6 though I haven't heard from #6 in a while, and this opener will allow for them to try to jump in.

Oh and anyone who hasn't sent me a physical description, please send one.

EDIT:
The game has begun!

Ack I forgot to do equipment!  :banghead:

Okay, everyone has basic supplies automatically, and I want you to talk to me about the rest of your gear via PM.  I'm going to allow most non magical items including armor and weapons, provided they aren't too weird (no you cannot have 100 lbs of chalk or a seige weapon).  I will allow up to three magic items (provided they are MINOR magical items).

PM me ASAP with your list.

Lord Elcorion

checking in. pming equipment list ina moment

BentonGrey

Alright, I'm in, let me know if you need any more detail than what I sent you.  I know the basic rules of D&D, mostly from playing through a lot of computer RPGs. ^_^  I don't actually know what a character sheet for the race I sent you would look like, and since it is something of a special case, I assume we'll just play it by ear.

Anyroad, I'm really looking forward to this!

Does that mean we can't backstab anyone with a ballistae?

What rough character level should we assume to be?  Would be useful to know what level of crud people would have had time to accumulate (most 3rd level characters aren't running around in Field Plate, nor most 1st levels to have even one magic item), as well as other details.

Also, I'm away from my materials, so I'll have to wing the list for now (I'll get that to you probably tomorrow), but expect more details by late Sunday.

Glitch Girl

Ah, someone else has seen  "The Gamers"  :D

Your character is 8th level, so you can have some pretty high quality equipment, but not an entire magical or jewel-encrusted or adamantine set.  A fw goodies here and there.

Just write your character into the game for now, and we should have equipment sorted out by the time that becomes an issue.

BlueBard

Okay, I'm starting to get a handle on Skills in the D&D system, but Feats I don't get at all.

How do you get them?  What are the restrictions on what feats you can have?  How many do you get?

Glitch Girl

Feats are kind of those little things that make you a "special snowflake".  Unlike skills which anyone can learn or use, these are abilities are usually related to class, race, or background.  They include special combat manuvers, special spell modifications, special phsyical and mental abilites, etc.

Everyone at 1st level starts off with one feat.  Humans get a bonus one at first level as an incentive for people to play humans.  ;)   Your class determines if you have other feats starting out (usually prechosen, like "Scribe Spell" for Wizards) and when you game certain class specific feats.  Every three levels (I think, don't have my book in front of me), you get another to choose another feat for your character.

Some feats require you to have certain prerequisits.  (For example: In order to get "Improved Cleave", you need to already have "Cleave")

Does that help?

Also, any throughs/complaints/comments on the game so far?  I know I haven't sprung the plot hook yet exactly, but I wanted to iron out things like this first and give you guys a little bit of time to interact.

BentonGrey

I'm liking it so far, no complaints. ^_^

Viking

I'm enjoying the setup thus far, though we seem to be suffering from a mild problem common to many a D&D game...

What reason do the strangers have to introduce themselves to one another, and eventually adventure together?

The arrival of the Plot Train will undoubtedly help, I have no doubt.  But otherwise, an inn in D&D commonly leads to strangers all seeking out separate tables and carefully watching all other strangers in the room.  Unless one of the strangers is a mysterious old man in the most shadowy corner in the back of the inn, in which case he is clearly looking to organize a band of adventurers for some quest or the like.  ;)

Hence why my character took an interest in the wounded man and privately introduced himself to Orloid.  He's not the flashy flamboyant sort, so a low-key introduction fit best.  Orloid is also elven, which helps.  So I made an introduction without once stepping out of character.

OOG: Don't get used to this idealic settng folks, plot train is headed your way, toot toot!  :D

"Og not get on train if Og not have ticket.  :D"

*looks down to see tracks on either side of his feet*

"uh-oh"  :huh:

Glitch Girl

Guys, make sure to check your PMs BEFORE posting in the thread.  Some of you have notes.  I leave it up to you what you do with the information, but please, if you decide to share it at any point, do NOT copy and paste what I wrote.  I hate that.  Put it into your own character's words.

And on that note, I won't be around much on the weekend, so be patient.

Oh, and Toot toot.  :D

Panther_Gunn

This new guy better not put any kind of delay on Og getting his food.  That could be a very *bad* career move.  ;)

that's right, though fighters are "feat mongers" since they also grant a bonus feat at 1st lvl ((thus a human fighter starts with 3 feats total)) and gain a bonus feat every 2 levels, in adition to the standard feat every third lvl.

RE: "going pearshaped"

One of my good friends back in college always used to use that phrase.  I liked it and kinda picked it up.  I never really thought much of the origin, but here's a link that might explain it, or it might not.  It does seem to be british in origin, and since my friend was heavy into Doctor Who fandom, I can see him picking up from there.
