I don't know if that actually means anything.  Someone has pretended to be him before.  And we have certain yellow viruses that can possess people.

Ajax

I'm starting to feel there really isn't any point liking any hero made after the Silver Age. Because they always get screwed over, especially the younger characters. I guess I should stop reading the new Blue Beetle cause he is going to probably be killed somehow and his death will in turn cause events that bring back Ted. DC will probably kill off Green Arrows son too since he is friends with Kyle, or better yet, kill off Wonder Girl cause she is associated with Tim Drake. Eventually the continued death of all his friends will lead Tim to become a villain and Nightwing can be Robin again! GLORY DAYS THE SILVER AGE IS BACK! Except more expensive and without the comics code but we don't have to worry bout that cause all our books will be rated G as in the word that all side kicks will use to start a sentence "Gee".

I enjoyed the Silver Age too (though I had to experince it through trades and collections since I'm only 21) but things have to move forward. I'm' kind of tired of DC trying to recreate the Silver Age.

I find this whole Kyle becoming Parallax rumour to be very odd. Kyle, Ion, is well known to be a major player in The Search for Ray Palmer, and Countdown in general. But the timing for this potential Parallax reveal overlaps with those storylines.

However if it does turn out to be true I'm not happy about it. I'm still not happy that Hal's back, and part fo the League, largely because it hurts two characters I find more interesting, Kyle and John Stewart. Surprisingly, Jordan's return has actually been a good thing for Guy Gardener.

GhostMachine

If Kyle being possessed by Parallax ends with Parallax somehow taking over Hal again only for Hal to defeat Parallax by dying again and someone mentioning that Hal can't be brought back from death this time and Kyle taking over the Green Lantern series with it renamed to Ion or him taking the GL name back, then I'm all for it.

If, instead, Kyle ends up dying or ends up powerless, I'm gonna be mega-p*ssed!

Out of the 2 "big" comic companies I have faith in DC to do what is right by Kyle.

I foresee him pulling though without visiting a graveyard.

QuoteThe next slide was the third title of the hour with "Countdown" in the name. Wayne advised that fans should be on look out for "Countdown Presents: The Search for Ray Palmer." The title featues Jason Todd, Donna Troy and Kyle Rayner visiting the 52 new earths of the new Multiverse born out of the conclusion of "52." The new team will be called the Challengers of the Beyond, and the first issue of "The Search for Ray Palmer" will be written by Ron Marz and feature the Multiverse debut of the Wildstorm Universe.

Ron Marz said he was looking forward to this issue. "It gives me the chance to play with Kyle and Donna again, and this time John Byrne won't be able to break them up!" The crowd laughed, and Marz added, "but Jason Todd might." Other worlds revealed to be on the horizon for the new team were the Crime Syndicate world and the vampire universe of "BloodRayne."

Kyle's going to be tied up in another title so this rumor actually doesn't make any sense.  The Search for Ray Palmer series featuring Kyle, Donna Troy, and Jason Todd starts in the same month as the Parallax Special.  There's no way he's going to become Parallax and tour the multiverse.  I'm betting Parallax will possess Superboy Prime, myself.

BTW, TUE would you mind sharing the source for that picture.  I'm wondering who drew it.

Come on, you're barely a superhero at all these days without coming back from the dead at *least* once...

I agree with what Ajax is saying. It seems DC is wiping the younger characters off the map to bring back dead characters or bring older characters back into the limelight again. I have no problem with bringing older characters back into the limelight or resurrecting them(but please come up with something better then Superboy Prime punching walls ). More characters means more possibilities and more stories. If you're going to kill someone, make it meaningful. i.e. Bill Foster's death.

What I do have a problem with is all this meaningless deaths that have no ramifications other then to sell a book. Except for what Ajax said, it's leading Robin to a darker path. Maybe DC doesn't understand that they have a fan base that didn't grow reading the silver age but are also too old to be reading Johnny-DC

Personally, I liked the idea that a GL with his own book didn't need to be in JLA too. I liked Jon Stewart in the League. And although I like Hal (a lot), I would've been all-for Jon maintaining his place in the JLA over Jordan. Kyle would've been a good choice as Ion, too. He is far more of an epic character since he assumed that mantle and would've given Supes and WW a run for their money.
Kyle becoming Parallax - I don't know. It seems to me that Kyle knows too much and is too familiar with the consequences to really fall victim to Parallax. To draw a parallel to a modern day myth I think we all know, Hal is like Anakin Skywalker, Kyle is Luke and Parallax is the Dark Side of the Force. The young hero may teeter on the brink but his hardships have given him the strength and wisdom to recognize evil for what it is and ultimately, reject it.

The Hitman

Well... it might not even be Kyle. with it uncolored, and since someone was masquerading as Kyle at the beginning of the Ion series, it could be someone else. Heck, for all we know, it could be Alex Nero, the Anti- Kyle.

I dont read green lantern stuff but by the pictures and reviews I've seen recently it looks like that Corner of the DC universe really has it's stuff together right now, so I hope he dosent kill off a bunch of people and take their rings...

Now that it's in full color, we can see yellow both above and below Kyle, with a little yellow on the side as well, which probally means that Parallax has something to do with this, and that this case of evilness probally isn't Kyle's fault.

Lanterns are like skittles. :P

So can I get some spoilers?
Superboy Prime, Henshaw, and Parallax are freed from sciencells.

Bedovian snipes a bunch GL's......but John Stewart snipes him back, OH YEAH! (pure fan boy moment for me)

The Green Lantern Corps suffer severe casualties. But still win the battle, don't think they'll be winning the war though with the line-up the SC have and Ion being captured. They'll need the Justice League and more if they want to win.

Ion is actually the living embodiment of will-power...similar to Parallax to fear. But instead of taking over it's host, it simply supports it. Sinestro rips Ion out of Kyle and Parallax ensues to taking over Kyle's body.

Sinestro reveals that he had Despotellis infect Kyle's mother so that she would die.

Anti-Monitor, Superboy Prime, Hank Henshaw, Kylax (Parallax+Kyle :P) and Sinestro have teamed together to destroy the multiverse.
The event has kicked off with a HUGE bang, it's better then I expected...way better.

Podmark

Wow sounds intense. I don't really buy GL stuff but it certainly sounds worthy of consideration.

Courtnall6

Wow...the colourist covered up most of the work done by the penciler and inker. A very good example when digital colouring goes too far.

Parallax Hal looked way cooler too!

catwhowalksbyhimself

I think I'm okay with this development.  The revelation about Ion works, I guess, just as long as Kyle become Ion again at the end.

Ajax

Would it be premature of me to say R.I.P Kyle?  <_<

Obviously DC is of the mind that if people still say "Man I like [insert classic character here]", that the current incarnation/version/replacement/etc isn't a fan favorite. So they kill him off  I hope they prove me wrong.

Jakew

judging by the current trend .....

Actually now that I know whats going on, I'm far less worried about Kyle for some reason. Don't ask me why, it's just a feeling.

I feel the same exact way, when Ultimate Evil first posted that pic I was a bit distraught and quick to add Kyle to the current DC death toll....but now I think he's going to pull through.

Fortunately for Kyle, he's basically been mind-controlled. The basic story trend I've noticed is that if a character chooses evil and then repents then self-sacrifice is usually involved in order for redemption to occur. In the case of mind-control characters typically will shake-it-off at a pivotal moment and rejoin the good guys. He's not totally safe though. Kingdom Come broke the rule in a big way.

Highlights:
And John Stewart for the kill!
Guardians arguing
Guy shields everybody

Lowlights:
A space whale?!? A stinkin' space whale!
Batman could reject the ring (too much willpower) but Kyle couldn't.

Sinestro will inevitably have his tochas handed to him because he has made mistake numero uno:

Don't underestimate Guy Gardner!

Why does this happen whenever Kyle has a major role in anything.  First people said he'd die at the end of the previous GL series.  Then people said he'd die in Green Lantern: Rebirth.  Then he was going to die in the Rann-Thanagar War, then Infinite Crisis.  Then the Ion mini was just a set up to kill him.  I mean how many time do they need to prove people wrong?

And as I've alread pointed out, DC has already solicited a new miniseries starting in September with Kyle as one of the stars.

I wonder what Darkseid is going to do when he finds out that some two-bit has-been with a yellow ring is trying to destroy that which is only Darkseid's to destroy.

That's a really good theory. I don't see the GLC winning this even with JLA backing them up.
