But anyway.

Long story short-- I have the hard drive for my iBook sitting in an enclosure. I've got all the data off it that I need, and now I want to format it to make it a generic USB hard drive. I used Linux to copy the files off (since OSX is unix-based), but Linux won't let me format the drive. I think it's because the drive shows up as read-only. I can't get it to fix the permissions, either.

Sooo... I'm trying in Windows, but even less luck here. Windows just doesn't want to see whatever file system is on this thing-- it shows up as a defective generic USB device.

Suggestions? Is there something simple I can do in Linux? (I've never touched it before) Could something like Partition Magic see and format a USB drive? Or do I need to send this to my buddy who has a Mac?

download knoppix, and use it as a boot disk, and you should be able to erase the HD that way.

I don't know anything about Linux.
I called a tech friend so if this doesn't work let me know.
