Oh, so many choices, where to begin....

Quote from: BitBiteOuch on July 06, 2007, 03:42:07 PMI figure this should really only apply to books you are currently reading, or have dropped within the year.

....I guess I'd need to begin reading again.  doh!

zuludelta

Favourite Marvel Title: Punisher (Max)
Favourite DC Title: none at the moment... the last thing I bought published by DC was probably a DC/Wildstorm TPB collecting 2 non-superhero mini-series written by Warren Ellis
Favourite Other (if any): Blade of the Immortal (Dark Horse Comics: translated manga)

Most Recently Dropped Title: not sure... does the fact that I'm probably not getting Ultimates 3 count?
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Ultimate Fantastic Four (in TPB form)

Biggest (Pleasant) Surprise: Punisher War Journal
Biggest Disappointment: The last 3 issues of Ultimates 2

Titles That Should Be Avoided: I generally avoid Marvel/DC story-arcs that are too steeped in detailed continuity and interaction with other titles
Titles That You Recommend: Punisher (Max), Ultimate Fantastic Four, Blade of the Immortal, The Boys; back-issues and/or TPBs of Preacher, The Authority, Ultimates 1 & 2, Sam Kieth's Maxx, assorted Hellboy minis

Title Going Downhill: can't really say, I usually follow creators and not so much comic book characters, so I tend to stop following a book if the creator(s) I like has moved on
Title Getting Better: read comment above

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Writers: Garth Ennis, Matt Fraction, Mike Carey, Warren Ellis; Artists: Hiroaki Samura, Stuart Immonen, Pasqual Ferry
Get These People Off That Title!: I dunno... Rob Liefeld on anything besides his creator-owned work, I guess

Podmark

Hmm I'll give this a try.

Favourite Marvel Title: New X-Men
Favourite DC Title: The only DC book I buy is Teen Titans, which has really dropped in quality lately.
Favourite Other (if any): Invincible

Most Recently Dropped Title: Thunderbolts (tried it, wasn't interested in new direction)
Most Recently Picked Up Title: (I think it's X-men or possibly Buffy Season 8)

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: New Warriors (haven't picked it up yet but I'm really liking what I'm hearing)
Biggest Disappointment: Teen Titans at the moment.

Titles That Should Be Avoided: Meh everyone has their own tastes
Titles That You Recommend: again see above but I really like Invincible and New X-Men.

Title Going Downhill: Exiles for sure, Teen Titans at least til McKeever gets onboard
Title Getting Better: umm not sure.

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Kirkman, Yost & Kyle; Ryan Ottly, Todd Nauck, Mark Brooks.
Get These People Off That Title! : Ramos on X-men and soon New X-Men. Claremont on Exiles.

JKCarrier

Favourite Marvel Title: Kabuki
Favourite DC Title: Brave and the Bold
Favourite Other (if any): Finder

Most Recently Dropped Title: Batman. I may pick up the trades at some point, but it's far from Morrison's best work, and the art is terrible (see also: All-Star Superman. Why does Morrison keep getting stuck with the crappy artists?).
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Army @ Love

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: Fell. I'm not generally a fan of crime dramas, but this is really sharp.
Biggest Disappointment: That awesome books like NextWave and Plastic Man keep getting cancelled.

Titles That Should Be Avoided: All company-wide crossovers
Titles That You Recommend: Love & Rockets, American Splendor, Madman, Shaolin Cowboy, The Goon, Castle Waiting, Artesia, Age of Bronze, A Distant Soil, anything by Eddie Campbell or James Kochalka.

Title Going Downhill: The Spirit is starting to lose me. The art's great, but the stories have been kind of weak.
Title Getting Better: Can't think of anything offhand. I tend to drop bad books pretty quickly, rather than wait around and hope for improvement.

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): David Mack
Get These People Off That Title! : Get Dan Didio and Joe Quesada off of everything!

And oops...I forgot about DC's Brave and the Bold. Gotta love George Perez!

Ajax

Favourite Marvel Title: Nova
Favourite DC Title: Y the Last Man
Favourite Other (if any): Planetary

Most Recently Dropped Title: New Avengers
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Planetary Vol. 3

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: Annihilation
Biggest Disappointment: Civil War

Titles That Should Be Avoided: Mighty Avengers
Titles That You Recommend: Stormwatch (Ellis arcs only), Planetary, The Authority Ellis only, Transmetropolitan, Punisher MAX, Nova, Berserk, GTO The Early Years, Invincible, Y the Last Man, Ex Machina, and more that I'm probably forgetting.

Title Going Downhill: Cable/Deadpool (I'm sad to say though I still enjoy it)
Title Getting Better: Nova

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Ellis and Cassaday on Planetary
Get These People Off That Title! : Quesda and Bendis off Marvel. Nuff Said.

Yes I know wildstorm is owned by DC but I still consider them different.

The Enigma

Nifty idea for a thread, BitBiteOuch. Here are mine:

Favourite Marvel Title: Nextwave
Favourite DC Title: none
Favourite Other (if any): Fables (I'm guessing Vertigo might go under DC, though)

Most Recently Dropped Title: Exiles
Most Recently Picked Up Title: The Authority reboot

Biggest (Pleasant) Surprise:
Biggest Disappointment: Claremont on Exiles

Titles That Should Be Avoided: No surprises, it's Exiles again
Titles That You Recommend: Fables, Y: The Last Man, Nextwave

Title Going Downhill: It starts with an 'E' and a really good idea and ends with Claremont rehashing stuff, making everything complicated and an 's'...
Title Getting Better: Fables. Ever since one of the major characters returned, it's been superb.

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Warren Ellis. He doesn't really need an artist, he's that awesome.
Get These People Off That Title! : At the risk of sounding like a stuck record: Claremont. Exiles. Now.

murs47

I have never once felt a writer should be ousted off a book in my entire life, until Claremont started doing Exiles. It seems as though everyone has the same feelings as well.

The Hitman

Favourite Marvel Title: Irredeemable Ant- Man
Favourite DC Title: Green Lantern/GL Corps
Favourite Other (if any): The Tick: Days of Drama

Most Recently Dropped Title: I just don't have it in me to drop comics. Countdown is getting close, however.
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Justice Society of America

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness
Biggest Disappointment: 52/Countdown

Titles That Should Be Avoided:
Titles That You Recommend:
- Irredeemable Ant- Man. Get 'em before it's cancelled after issue #12. You won't be disappointed!
- Justice League of America

Title Going Downhill: X- Factor. It had the potential. The stories are well done, but can't seem to hold my interest lately.
Title Getting Better: GL Corps. Almost dropped, glad I didn't!

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now):Honestly, Geoff Johns, for all of his needlessly violent storylines, really has a feel for the DCU, which is something I can't say for BendisMarvel...
Get These People Off That Title! : Ron Marz is going to be writing a series of specials on The Sinestro Corps. No thanks.

What? It's been canceled! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I really can't believe it. Talk about the most under rated book of all time.

Mr. Hamrick

Favourite Marvel Title: I've quit reading Marvel due to some poor choices made by them as a company.
Favourite DC Title: Batman and Detective Comics
Favourite Other (if any):  Hellblazer (yeah it is DC/Vertigo but still putting under other), somewhat fond of Strangers in Paradise

Most Recently Dropped Title: Geeze, hard to remember
Most Recently Picked Up Title: 52 (and regretted it by the end)

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: 52
Biggest Disappointment: 52

Titles That Should Be Avoided: I'm avoiding anything Marvel for a long while. It's up to you, though.
Titles That You Recommend: I'm really enjoying Detective Comics right now.  More than I am Batman, in fact.

Title Going Downhill: Just about every main Marvel title in my opinion. (I'll discuss why in PM if you want.)
Title Getting Better: Detective Comics

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): I have generallly liked George Perez's work I have found (and generally got along with him as a person).  I also like Neil Gaiman (he is working just not in comics at the moment, I don't think).  I also like Grant Morrison and Warren Ellis.
Get These People Off That Title! : Get Bendis and Joe Quesada and whoever is writing Captain America and whoever made the decision to kill Cap (again, Joe Q. is probably to blame) away from Marvel.

bredon7777

Here goes nuffin:

Favourite Marvel Title:I'm quite fond of Thunderbolts, but I have a sick sense of humor.  If I factor that out its a tie between She-Hulk and Astonishing X-men/Runaways.
Favourite DC Title: JLA/JSA - I can't choose between them.
Favourite Other (if any): Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8. (duh! :) ) Hellboy is a close second, tho. (I love Plaentary and Astro City but their shipping schedule is so erratic that its not fair to include them in the list)

Most Recently Dropped Title: Wonder Woman
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Thor

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: That DC has been able to put out weekly comics of such high quality so consistently
Biggest Disappointment: Almost anything Civil War/Initiative related. Marvel has shot themselves in the head (1000X worse than shooting onself in the foot) with this nonsense

Titles That Should Be Avoided:Anything Civil War/Initiative related (cept Thunderbolts)
Titles That You Recommend: Split into categories:

Marvel: She Hulk, X Factor, Runaways, Astonishing X men, Thunderbolts (only if you have a sick sense of humor)
DC: Atom, JLA, JSA, Countdown
Indies: Buffy, Hellboy, Astro City, Planetary (when they come out)

Title Going Downhill:Spider-Man. JMS' run started out promising, but ever since Civil War its just been getting worse and worse
Title Getting Better: Most of the DC stuff I buy starts out good and just continues to get better with each issue

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now):
Writers: Ellis/Morrison/Johns     Artists: Cassiday/Ross/Perez
Get These People Off That Title! : The Marvel Universe needs to be taken away from anyone who thought Civil War was a good idea and rebooted.

GhostMachine

Favourite Marvel Title: Captain America - before Cap was killed off
Favourite DC Title: Batman and Justice Society of America (tie)
Favourite Other (if any): Honor Brigade (its the only non-DC or Marvel book I am reading right now, so....)

Most Recently Dropped Title: Ms. Marvel several months back
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Honor Brigade

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: Honor Brigade
Biggest Disappointment: Ms. Marvel (writing was bad, then they changed the art team with a penciler I like given a bad inker.....)

Titles That Should Be Avoided: Anything written by JMS or Mark Millar, who both need to be banned for life from writing comics. JMS' entire work on Spider-Man needs to be tossed out of continuity because its garbage and Mark Millar is a third-rate hack
Titles That You Recommend: Justice Society of America. Although I thought the first story arc was a bit rushed (should have gone 6 issues instead of 4) and then the JLA crossover came along, the writing and art are both top notch.

Title Going Downhill: Just about Marvel's entire line of books, due to having fanboy Joe Q running things. (Fanboys should NEVER be an EIC!)
Title Getting Better: Wonder Woman will be once Gail Simone takes over. :)

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Geoff Johns (writer), Terry and Rachel Dodson (artists)

Get These People Off That Title! : I have no idea what Mark Millar is even doing write now, so I'll say JMS. I was looking forward to the new Thor series.....until I found out he would be writing it. Marvel is pretty much screwed as long as Joe Quesada is its Editor-In-Chief.

Have you heard anything else about this petition, I'd be more then happy to do my part and sign it.

I'm a few months out of the loop,  but heres goes:
Favourite Marvel Title: ummn, Daredevil , but cap, iron fist and uncanny are close
Favourite DC Title: The Spirit, or the Shazam Vs. Monster Society mini!
Favourite Other (if any): Elephantmen

Most Recently Dropped Title: Green Arrow
Most Recently Picked Up Title: buying The Goon trades

Biggest (Pleasant) Surprise:
Bucky getting the shield
Biggest Disappointment: aside from my reading schedule completely hindered, and my Astonishing X-men subscription finished - the cancellation of NEXTwave and impending cancellation of Irredeemable

Titles That Should Be Avoided: not sure
Titles That You Recommend: Fear Agent! Elephantmen! G0DLAND! Madman(can't wait to get Madman Gargantua)! Irredeemable Ant-Man! All-New Atom! Blue Beetle!

Title Going Downhill: the superman family(including, i hate to say it, all-star)
Title Getting Better: Moon Knight

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): as a team?  either whedon/cassidy or ellis/cassidy - but Morrison, Simone, Brubaker and Fraction are all up there for writers
Get These People Off That Title! : the wonder woman creative team, the artist for the late Flash series (im happy its being rebooted)

BentonGrey

Alright, I'll take a crack at this, although I'm not really reading anything modern, mainstream, and in continuity right now (save Aquaman).  Even the books that sound and look really good (GL Corp, Detective Comics) are still tied into a continuity and.....worldview, I suppose you might say, that I simply can't abide.

Favourite Marvel Title: Nada...I am considering picking up some of the Marvel Adventures comics
Favourite DC Title: Justice (So freakin' fantastic.  This is everything comics should be, and Alex Ross should NEVER stop working.  I don't know what else I can say)
Favourite Other (if any): Star Wars: Legacy

Most Recently Dropped Title: GI JOE, Transformers: Infiltration (I may pick this back up, it wasn't bad, I just was in mourning for the fantastic stories that Dreamweave had left unfinished)
Most Recently Picked Up Title: Star Wars: Legacy (if you're a Star Wars fan, and you're not reading this, pick it up, it's pretty awesome)

Biggest (Pleasent) Surprise: Aquaman (I picked up the first couple of issues of Tad Williams' new run on this title, and the art completely threw me.  It's terrible, and although it has improved a bit, that's not why I mark this as my biggest surprise.  It seems like Williams has actually got some good ideas, and even though he doesn't seem to get some of the characters (Black Manta, for example) he does get the world, and I see a lot of potential....too bad it looks like it's going to be cancelled.  Arthur just can't get any luck)
Biggest Disappointment: GI JOE, Busiek's run on Aquaman and the new artist, and JLU.  I really want to like JLU, and I keep hoping they'll start telling better stories, like Batman and Robin Aventures, but it just stays at a consistently childish level.  I appreciate that the title doesn't delve into the things I hate about modern comics, but that only goes so far.  Batman and Robin Adventures was clean, heroic, and mature in its story telling.  I just wish I could find a book that is accessible to children, but still complex and with enough depth for an adult.

Titles That Should Be Avoided: GI JOE (I wanted to like this so, so, SO very much, and I followed it far longer than I should have.  There were a lot of cool story ideas, lots of great plot points, but they always fell flat.  DD has got tons of ideas, but no writers capable of pulling it off.  This, combined with the complete lack of the military 'feel' of Hama's work just left me cold)  Other than that, well...you all know my opinions, I think pretty much all of the modern comic fare should be avoided.
Titles That You Recommend: Aquaman, (if you're a fan of the Sea King, go ahead and pick it up, show DC that he can have a successful book) Honor Brigade, (once again, everything a comic should be...but you all already know that...right?) Battlestar Galactica: Classic, (I love me some old school BG) JLU, (if you're like me, and dissatisfied with the state of modern comics...this is just about your last refuge)

Title Going Downhill: Godland (I like it, but I'm begging to get sorta' tired of it, it's got a few more issues to get somewhere), GI JOE
Title Getting Better: JLU (slowly...VERY slowly, but I think it is happening)

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): Alex Ross, Kurt Busiek, that's all I've got

Get These People Off That Title! : I don't really know, but I'd like to clean house with both of the big companies.

Jakew

Favourite Marvel Title: Runaways or Punisher MAX ... similar stuff, I know.

Favourite DC Title: Checkmate

Favourite Other (if any): Invincible

Most Recently Dropped Title: Green Arrow (my childhood favourite comic book character hamstrung by weak writing  :( )

Most Recently Picked Up Title: Irredeemable Ant Man

Biggest (Pleasant) Surprise: All-New Atom

Biggest Disappointment: Noble Causes

Titles That Should Be Avoided: Jack of Tales. Anything with Wolverine in the title.

Titles That You Recommend: Invincible, The Walking Dead, Y:The Last Man, Ex Machina, Punisher MAX, Fables, The Goon, Runaways, All-New Atom, Astonishing X-Men.

Title Going Downhill: 100 Bullets ... the series has been one big lead-up. I will be totally suprised if the conclusion is satisfying. I'm betting its going to pull a Sopranos. JMS's Squadron Supreme ... ok, I have no idea what the status of this comic is, but when it was coming out regularly, the quality of the story was on the slide. New Avengers, just because. Hellblazer, because its The Simpsons of edgy comics.

Title Getting Better: Fables ... after a slow patch, the series is back in its stride.

Favourite Writer and Artist (working right now): I'll narrow this down by saying my favourite team is Robert Kirkman / Ryan Ottley on Invincible.

Get These People Off That Title! : Grant Morrison and Gene Ha on The Authority. Morrison has already had a bash at The Authority (it was messy) and Gene Ha isn't an artist I'd think of for 'wide-screen action'.
