hey guys,i have aquestion ive wanted to ask but didnt want to piss anyone off or step on toes but here it is........why is it a issue with people about others hexing/skoping/ ect..?arent we all in like a group of people all with the same intrests and passion for a game that swings wide our imaginations?i wish i had the talent you guys have but if i did my work would be shared by all.if someone wanted to take my work and change it to create something else for the community so what.it might be something i wanted but never made, or an idea that i didnt think of,or an improvement on an existing work ive created.its all about creative freedom.the more minds sharing and working together the better the community.no room for ego's.thanks!

"Say, Mr. Da Vinci, you sure did a nice job on that there Mona Lisa. Mind if I paint a mustache on her?"

Some creators mind, and some don't. You may not understand their feelings, or agree with them, but it's their call. They don't get any compensation for all their hard work; the very least we can do is respect their wishes.

While your view is idyllic, it's sort of like Communism.....it works in theory, but once people get involved, it has a tendency to break down.  What has happened in the past, from least to worst, have been: someone may have made some minor re-colors or small edits on someone's base skin, and called it their own; someone has made small changes to someone else's work (skin or mesh), and claimed it was their original work; someone has cut & pasted parts from one (or many) person's skin to someone else's, assumed all the credit for creation, with no mention at all of other artists.  In each case, individuals have taken such "work", and posted it for download, as if it sprang entirely from their own imagination & skill.  Anyone who puts in even 5+ hours on a skin or mesh will get pretty tired of people stealing their work pretty quickly.  That's when the "no hexxing/'skoping/kitbashing" disclaimers start to appear.

It's in our own best interests to honor the wishes of such artists, and when permission to make changes is given, to take the time to ensure credit is given where due.  Otherwise, we will find ourselves with a rapidly dwindling base of artists willing to share their work, and I suspect, a rapidly shrinking community, as both contributors & non-contributors alike eventually become disgusted at the lack of basic respect for fellow members, and this eventually turns into just a grouping of "haxxors, script kiddies, and warez junkies".

Giving people free reign to use your contributions as they see fit is very generous.  Will you continue to be so generous when you see your work, time and again, with someone else's name on it, and you're never mentioned?

point taken.i like the mona lisa answer.too bad people cant give credit where credits due.like i said before...it was just a question.this may answer many other peoples questions and also enlighten those who create without the credits.
