Video Games You'd Like to See

If you're like me (and really, you better hope you're not) you probably spend a fair amount of idle time dreaming up or discussing with friends ideas for video games. Below is my list of games that I'd love to see on the shelves of the local EB:

A game based on the 1976 film, Taxi Driver: We've already seen games based on some pretty unlikely movie sources... the recent Scarface: The World Is Yours game is a speculative sequel to the film (What if Tony Montana survived the final shoot-out?) while The Godfather game is more like a standard mission-based action/adventure game set in the fictional world of Francis Ford Coppola's films. Heck, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is basically a game version of the Scarface movie. What I'd love to see is a game based on the classic Robert De Niro-starrer (probably my favourite film of all-time)... envision it as a Grand Theft Auto-style game. You play Travis Bickle, Vietnam vet who now drives a hack in New York, slowly succumbing to his neuroses. Of course, the main plot and missions will still revolve around Bickle saving "Easy" Iris (Jodie Foster's character) from her sleazy pimp. You can play missions based on events in the film (delivering fares to earn money, driving Betsy around, maybe racing a clock to make it to the porn film showing in time, spooking the Secret Service at the Senator's presidential campaign rally, finding an illegal arms salesman), maybe some mini-games (there's so much you can do with the famous "You talkin' to me?" scene), and some new content that fits in well wih the story (maybe Bickle takes down some minor gangs and other pimps and works his way up to Iris' pimp). It's gaming gold, I tells ya.

A good Daredevil game: for one of Marvel's more recognizable characters, I'm surprised he doesn't get more video game representation. I could easily imagine a game that combines Spider-Man 2's webswinging physics and engine with the innovative crime investigation and courtroom gameplay of Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney (click here if you're unfamiliar with the game). You play standard exploration/beat'em up missions to investigate leads, collect evidence and corral and question suspects as Daredevil, and then proceed to play as attorney Matt Murdock using logic and the testimony and evidence you've gained in the previous missions to nail various crime bosses.

A superhero fighting game for the non-fighting game fan: I'm a big fighting game fan. Started with Yie Ar Kung-Fu on the old Famicom and never looked back. I also used to spend hours with my grade school classmates arguing who would win in a fight between Hulk and Wolverine (Hulk, obviously, but heck, were were 9). That being said, I don't think I've ever found a superhero-themed fighting game that worked both as a superhero game and a fighting game. Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom games come close, but the gameplay and control scheme is so specialized that unless you're a superhero fan who also happens to be a dyed-in-the-wool Street Fighter II Turbo player (which I am, actually), the complicated advanced move set will likely turn you off. Also, most traditional fighting games have very small locales, which really limit the scope and scale of powers and abilities.
What I'm envisioning is something that has the relative accessibility, camera, and huge free-roaming environments of something like Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 but with more interactive environments (sort of like those found in Power Stone 2).

What games would you guys like to see?

lugaru

I agree that a good daredevil game would rock. Personally:

Punisher 2: same formula of violence and torture with an updated PC oriented engine. New element? Ripping off hitman in that stealth is an option on every level but not obligatory at all. As part of that you get traps like the iconic claymore mine. Another new element would be "the duffel bag". Just that, when you cary it well it uses up your second hand so you can only use your riffle weapon or one pistol. The duffel bag can be thrown at enemies either knocking them down or distracting them and it allows you to swap your rifle weapon with anything you have stored in there. Usually the best strategy is to drop it somewhere and go back to it everytime you want a weapon change. Lastly it would sport a random seed mission generator. Cleaning crack houses, mowing down warehouses of mobsters, assassinating crime vip's... all randomly generated. Stories would be based on the punisher Max, glossing over the first mini series with micro chip (I wasent TOO fond of it) and going into crazier fare such as "kitchen irish" "mother russia" and "the slavers". A good "last level" would be the recent story in afghanistan since it ties up a lot of loose ends.

Altered Beast: think God of War but morphing into various mythic creatures.

Marvel/DC Ultimate Alliance: Ravensoft gets a ton of money and purchases DC rights too. The result? JLA vs Avengers with a dozen obscure characters on each side. Unlock amalgams (dark claw, super soldier) and alternate costumes. Fight between marvel and DC landscapes against varied villains. The ability to form multiple teams and purchase bonuses for them.

Freedom Force 2: This one deserves its own thread. The idea is that we ditch everything we have done so far (because a new game wont make us stop playing the old one) and treat meshes as a mix of "City of Heroes" and "the sims 2". Choose a body type, change around the face and skin color (including stuff like blue, green, purple, etc). Create multiple outfits each with their own bonuses, such as a civilian outfit, a "classic" outfit, a "modern" outfit. They are all linked to the same character. Modders dont create "skins and meshes" so much as "genetics" and "costume parts". For example say you've got a "full body outfit" you could skin it to any of spidermans outfits. Likewise you could make a utility belt and a cowl and do batman. Etc. The gameplay would still be tactical but with far superior graphics and physics. I would recomend a style similar to spider-man 3 in that you have a map full of main missions and optional missions but patrolling will generate random encounters. Lastly you can bring ANY hero to a mission but the less points they are worth the more prestige it generates, so you set your own difficulty. So using "superman" to stop a bank robbery wont give your team that many points but using "daredevil" will. Lastly the game is "grownup" and can distinguish between subduing and killing foes, distinguishing heroes from vigilantes and penalizing the latter. Heroes can die too, but the game is based on superheroes, meaning it's not too hard for you to bring them back.

I'd like to see ALL of these games (especially Daredevil),  they sound pretty good.

I'd like to see a better Marvel Nemesis game.  that was a pretty good fighter,  but the controls were a bit weirds,  and it didn't have real villains.  lame idea!

but hands down the game i most want to see is a Batman free-roamer. complete with arkham asylum missions and breakouts for ultimate replayability.  and throw in some Robin/Catwoman/Batgirl team-ups and you got yourself a hit.

gengoro

Marvel nemesis describes your third game zulu.  Its not that great of a game though.  Also agree with detourne about the villains.

Bushido Blade 3: Number 2 is one of my favorite games and I would have loved to see a next gen version.  Sadly the dev team split from square so the chances are pretty much gone.

A GOOD Transformers G1: There already is one on ps2 which I imported but the gameplay is horrible, although the inner fanboy still made me play through it more than once.  Only good thing were the character models.  Hopefully they would use the Transformers Armada engine next(never played though, just seen vids).

Street Fighter 4: Come on Capcom!

GogglesPizanno

Id actually like to see more games that are fun instead visually impressive.
So many of the games Ive played in the last couple of years spend all their time wowing us with visuals that story and gameplay get relegated to a distant second. Its rare that Ive played a game recently that i didn't just get bored with after a few days.

Thats being said...

More Crimson Skies Games: I absolutely love that series of games. The stories and immersion in the alternate 1940's pulp type of world was fantastic. It would be great to see them expand out of the arcade flight sim genre into a more traditional RPG game. It has all the elements in place already.

A sandbox game for Pirates: A Pirate game done like GTA or Oblivion. They sorta tried it with the game Sea Dogs and then with the updated and re-branded Pirates of the Carribean game. They were pretty and fun for what they were, but I love the idea of having a whole world to do what i want as a pirate.

A decent Zombie Game: There are already several of these games out there but they all suffer from being either repeditive hack and slash or hampered by poor interface deisgn decisions. I think this is the type of game that if you could find a happy medium, has a lot of potential. The best game thus far in this genre is the browser based Urban Dead (http://www.urbandead.com/)

A new Aliens Game: There are already several in the works right now that I am kind of excited by. But I loved the old AvP games, and i think with the type of things they can do now, you could break that series out of the FPS and do some really cool stuff.

And i totally second the call for more Bushido Blade games. That thing got so much play on my Playstation back in the day.

SingleMalt

I want to see a vampires vs werewolves game. I can't believe that Underworld was not turned into a game. I read somewhere that it was in development but was scrapped.

Glitch Girl

A free-roam Batman game done well - we know free roam urban games can be done (see Grand Theft Auto series) but instead of being the baddie, be the guy who hunts them down.  Throughout, have several major capers to be solved as well as muggers, thieves, and gangsters to be thwarted along the way.  Have clues to find, places to investigate and thugs to interogate mixed with the notables of Gotham and I think you'd have a winner.

Punisher 2

Like your ideas for this one. Still, one thing a new Punisher game desperately needs is a jump button. There's no way one foot high obstacles should be able to stop Frank.

Street Fighter 4 Come on Capcom!

I actually tried getting into Marvel Nemesis but the non-Marvel characters felt a little tacked on. Good -looking game, though. The game was obviously not meant to be Tekken or Virtua Fighter in terms of depth of gameplay and control and I wasn't expecting it to be, but it still didn't meet with my lowered expectations.

No word of StreetFighter 4, but if you haven't heard already, Capcom is doing a "remixed" version of StreetFighter II, with the sprites being re-drawn by Udon Studios(!) and upgraded to HD-quality resolution. Hopefully they throw in some StreetFighter III (my favourite in the series) characters in the mix.

A free-roam Batman game done well

DC really needs to do a better job licensing out its characters to game developers. I can't remember the last Batman game I enjoyed and the recent game based on Superman Returns was only slightly less boring than the movie. They were sitting on a licensing goldmine with the popularity of Justice League Unlimited (the designs were already perfect for incorporation into the gaming medium) but they didn't do anything with it.

General Jerky

A real Fallout 3: Need I say anything?

Revenant

definitely.  Where is this game?  It would be a hit if they'd just mod the existing GTA engine into a Batman game.  You could even throw in some alternate locales like the Near East for a training sequence or a mission against Ra's Al Ghul.  Unlockable characters like Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Huntress would be great.

Maybe they'll listen to the huge demand for this game (it's on the DC boards and elsewhere) and get it into production for the Dark Knight release.  After watching video of the new Superman Returns game, and playing a bit of spider-man 3, it's a wonder that there isn't a sandbox game set in Gotham.

I'd also like to see a God of War type game featuring Wonder Woman.

I second that! This has been a game that should of been out after ten people said "who is better:Marvel or DC? (I am personally leaning towards Marvel)

Jakew

GOOD sequels to Bushido Blade and Def Jam Vendetta: Fight for NY. A 3D sequel to Jagged Alliance. A massively multiplayer first-person version of Urbandead.com

Also, a sequel for Freedom Force featuring flying melee-attacks.

detourne_me

oggles,  have you played Sid Meier's Pirates?  That was a pretty good sandbox,  but he was a bit too clean.   it was an update of his old piratesa game that i used to play on apple IIe,   nearly the same controls too hahah!!

GogglesPizanno

Oh yeah i have Sid Meier's Pirates.
I really like that game.
I hadn't really thought about it as a sandbox per se, I think cause its deceptively simple in its game play and that its designed more like a strategy game. If you could take that game's general design as a framework and update it with more depth to character, storyline and mission structure... Mmmmmm Piratey.

Although when talking about Pirate games in general, Nothing has yet to touch the Monkey Island Series that Lucasarts put out back in the day. A lot of people go on about Fallout as one of those life altering game experiences. For me it will always be the Monkey Island games.

And back in MY Apple II days, I was all about the Game "Taipei"
It was sorta the poor mans Pirates

Mr. Hamrick

I argee with the idea of a "sandbox" Gotham game.

However, I am wondering if a game similar to Elder Scrolls: Oblivion could be done with not just Gotham but other elements of the DC Universe included.

I'd love to see a "sandbox" or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion or GTA type game that had elements of various areas of the DC Universe or something similar.  I am saying DC because that's my personal preference.  I'd settle for a Batman game like this with other DC stars making an appearance . . . Zatana, Superman, John Constantine, Green Latern, Green Arrow and The Question all come to mind.

I'd love to see a DC Ultimate Alliance for the next gen platforms and not the half-way done Justice League Legends game that came out.

I'd love to see City of Heroes and City of Villains for the MAC .

an open plateform detective game of any kind really.  Like GTA or The Godfather but instead of a criminal, the main character is a P.I. taking an assortment of cases around the city and assisting the police in tracking a serial killer.

vortex

I'd like to see more tactical squad games a-la X-COM.

More 4-X games similar to Master of Orion would be nice.

Games which recreate old AD&D modules, like Temple of Elemental Evil would be nice.  It would be cool if they could release a game that has all the core rules in it, including all of the races, classes, and a majority of the monsters, spells, and magic items, along with a minor beginner module.  After that, they could release the other modules as expansions.  I would prefer it in a format which tries to stay true to the classic RPG style rather than Neverwinter Nights.

A sequel to Arcanum would be cool.

A turn based RPG of either Champions or Villains and Vigilantes tops my list, though!

Pyroclasm

I would like an actual Superpowered RPG on the PC.
It should allow you to create your character from costume bits & sliders.
It should not be "class-based" , allowing you to pick and choose powers with a point system and developing those powers through use.
It should be located in a free-roam cityscape and have a non-linear plot/quest system that includes random events.
If you choose to be heroic, villanous, or somewhere in between should be completely up to you.  Your actions and dialogue should have consequences that affect the plot & gameplay.  Even maintaing a secret identity or not would be your choice.  Perhaps the public fears you?  Maybe they don't know their most favorite hero moonlights as a crook...
This game could be played single player, but some of the fun would be playing with a handful of others (via LAN or net connection) in cooperative or competitive play.
Ideally this game would also allow for custom content and modding.

Verfall

Transformers MMOG. With the movie out this might finally see reality, and COH has proven you can have an MMOG that doesn't require you to sit there and fight one mob at a time in a group of 8 for eternity. Of course deciding whether to go with movie designs or G1esque designs would be something for people to complain.

A Star Wars game in the vein of Kotor, but with space battles and ship purchases, as well as the ability to not play a Jedi or get forces powers. Something like Bounty Hunter but in an RPG setting. I always modded my Kotor characters into soldiers just because I dislike playing Jedi.

Resident Evil 4 pretty much rocked a heckuva lotta socks. But if you're meaning a more open-ended, free-roaming, "one man against the zombie hoard", type of game, I agree.

detourne_me

how good did you think dead rising was?
I thought it was a blast to play... GTA meets zombies.  and the bosses literally scared me.  after fighting the chainsaw weilding clown once, i did NOT go back there!
i gotta admit though,  the difficulty of that game was too high for me.

deanjo2000

Id love to see this

I know 2d scroll throughs are dated now but i use to love playing them and a Aliens vs Punisher would be great fun :D
I'd also like an online warriors game were you can start your own gangs claim your own turf and do robberies, muggings and catch the train to take over others turf.Imagine picking your crew or taking everyone and starting a massive brawl with rival gangs."Warriors come out to play) ;)

XLR8er

another warriors game

An open ended RPG based on Doctor Who, which not only allows for time travel, but the consequences of changing events.

Heck yeah. I love that game. Though I do wish it could be a little bit more opened ended.

Swingman

Incubation 2:

Incubation is one of my favorite multi-player games of all time, but it definitely needs to be brought up to date. I think the Incubation game holds a lot of potential, just waiting to be met in a sequel. I'm a big fan of turnbased strategy, and there's not that many games around.

Also I'm aboard on the "real Fallout 3" thing...

tommyboy

Morrowind Modded to be a Western.
Big open spaces, different indian nations, different european nations (ie france, spain, britain, etc).
Play as a rustler, lawman, scout, soldier, cowboy, rancher, saloon owner, indian, missionary, trader, bounty hunter. Swap from "class" to class as you will, but each has consequences (ie swap from rustle to bounty hunter and law abidin folk wont trust you for a while, and vice versa).
Replace the weirdo beasties with wolves, puma, rattlesnakes, grizzlies, buffalo, eagles etc etc.
Replace the NPCs with cowboys and indians.
Have a big Plot that you dont HAVE to play through, and lots of optional side missions, and randomly generated quests and encounters.
I liked "Gun" but it was too small and too linear.
"Gun" into "Morrowwind" = fun.

Sword

I want to see a Ghostbusters game, most likely using the Halo Engine.
I'd also love, just love a game like Marvel Legends, except you're Marvel Monsters. The desire to play Fin Fan Foom is strong.

GogglesPizanno

Mmm... I was a huge Freedom Fighters fan so I would love a sequel.

As for a morrowind style western game that would rock. Im one of those guy's who loves shooters but the more low tech the better... Im not a fan of heat seaking rockets and plasma cannons. And yeah... walking into a village where everyone speaks french or a native language, that would be a trip! Likewise choosing between robbing banks and enforcing the law... too cool.

Jakew

1) Following on from Tommy's Morrowind/Western thing ... I'd love to see an rpg western. If someone created a MMORPG western ... the mind boggles.

2) Lugaru, I also really liked Freedom Fighters. It was my favourite game for a while. Great controls, physics and general gameplay.
