Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps...Avatars!?

Alright, I just had an idea...

Although I have yet to read any of it, the current Sinestro Corps storyline in the DC universe is reaaally popular, especially on these boards...

Everyone here has an avatar to fit in with the Freedom Reborn universe...

Murs has made some excellent original Corps characters to create his own Sinestro Corps battles in the rumble room...

So...putting all of these ideas/concepts/things together, why don't we (those who are interested) design some original, brand spanking new, GL universe avatars for ourselves?  We can either base our Lantern avatars on members of the GL Corps, Sinestro Corps, or...as they are revealed...a part of any of the other Spectrum Corps (?).

It could be a pretty neat project.  Skins, perhaps hexes, including hero files...I think it could be kind of cool, and also, it could be a great way to help turn the tide of war in the rumble room.

Does anyone else find this to be an interesting, neat, or even mildly spiffy idea?  If interested, us skinners could get together and take requests so that most people could get in on it...

Podmark

Hey thats a pretty fun idea. I can just imagine Podmark as a member of the Sinestro corps. Probably don't have much time to do it at the moment though.

Left to Right: Murs47, Klauser, and Peerless1

I'm all for this :D

My Green Lanterns are getting their butts kicked in the rumble room against the Sinestro Corps....the tide definitely needs to be turned ;)

The thing is, I was thinking we should make our GL/Sinestro "avatars" more so based on ourselves, rather than our pre-existing avatars for the FR universe.  That way, we've got an entirely different and brand new avatar, with a brand new backstory and everything.  Of course, we can always include some homages to our FR avatars in the costume and perhaps even the backstory of our GL/Sinestro avatar, of course.

In fact...the first skin I ever made was a Green Lantern skin based on...myself, I guess you could say.  Note that he does not bear almost any resemblance to The (original red and blue) Pwime, however, who was also based on myself.

I didn't want to use that one for this, however...so I tried to come up with a new design for a GL version of myself.  No luck.  All the costume designs blew.  Then, blam, I put a new design on paper and it rocked.  However, it only fits with a Sinestro-Corps style character.

Guess I'm a bad guy now.  :P

murs47

I'm a bit confused. So what you're saying is the avatar should be based on how we look in "real" life?

But with some small minute homages to our FF avatars?

The Pwime

Gah, I just realized how confusing that actually sounded...

I guess what I meant to say was: It doesn't really matter what your avatar is, as long as it's new.  It can be anything you want, any species, anything...just make sure it ISN'T you FR avatar in a GL corps uniform.

I guess I made mine kind of look like myself in person, though. -.-;

EDIT:  BEHOLD!  SINESTRO CORPS ...ME!!!

this one doesn't really contain any homages to FR Pwime.  I like it that way...now, he just needs a backstory.

murs47

ooooooooooooohh.....gotcha. ;)

I didn't have a FR avatar originally, neither did Klauser. I'm not sure about Peerless1 though.

I forgot to mention, I created a couple GL and SC symbols in Adobe Illustrator for my skins so I wouldn't have to go back and recreate the symbol each and every time. I could convert it to a .psd or an actual custom shape to plug in to PS and give to the skinners that are interested in doing this.

that would be pretty darn sweet...

I gotta get started on skinning mine now...

murs47

That looks cool, almost like a non-parallax evil kyle

I forgot I already converted my .ai file to a .psd......I'll send you a PM with a link to the file in a few minutes.

BatWing

i see wht your trying to say here pwime
ur saying we get another avatar thats gl/sinetro not fr avatars
i see
pretty good idea
yes good idea

lugaru

I've got a totally evil idea... I'm in. Might do a GL character too, which is a cool idea i had but unfortunately has nothing to do remotely with my avatar, it's just a cool idea I had for yet another earth GL.

yell0w_lantern

Can't say it would really work for me since I'm a Yellow Lantern and all.
I mean, we may be rip-offs, but we're not evil. And we're definitely NOT Green Lanterns...

lugaru

WORK IN PROGRESS (Might improve some pieces here and there... any advice?)

Here's some work in progress... drawing on the fact that my avatar is mexican and a villain but that's it.

Juan "El Maton" Mendez.

Working for his uncle Juan "El Maton" Mendez quickly became the most feared gangster in L. A.
This did not sit right with his uncle, so after an anonymous tip Mendez was facing two life scentences for gang slayings he participated in earlier that year. While on the inside a unique piece of contraband arrived to him, a yellow ring of power. Upon escape Mendez killed his uncle and joined the Sinestro corps.

Usage of his powers:

Mendez cannot yet wrap his mind around his new powers. Mostly he uses the ring in melee and to blast foes with energy. Whenever his mind is clear enough to focus some attention into what he is doing he has been known to conjure up gangs of spectral gangsters with bats and guns. He also loves using yellow strands of barbed wire and even ran over a foe once with a bright yellow low rider he shaped with his ring. While Mendez is not the most efficient member of the sinestro corps his human ingenuity and gift for cruelty makes him a valued member.

Oh. Gad. I am totally in.

haha, I don't know why, but I completely laughed out loud when I read that

Lugaru: Cool character, he sounds like a real baddie. Can't wait to have Guy Gardner wipe the floor with him in the Rumble Room :P

 Yeah, it's pretty funny...can't take credit it for it though. A member of Newsarama made it.

Kaede

i'm totally in this one... eventhough i haven't thought of an FR avatar for myself... hehehe...

yell0w_lantern

BEHOLD!
The Yellow Lantern Corps

NB: The second from the right was actually done by Lunarman as a Secret Santa for me back in '05.
The others are really bad recolors that I did because I can't skin to save my life. They are NOT original. I did no real work on any of them. My apologies if I've insulted any of the original artists. Hal and Jon are strictly tongue-in-cheek and I have no intention of making these available for download or of emailing them out. They're just part of the gag that is the YL Corps.

deanjo2000

Good idea but i think our actual fr avatars would be better just to see which heroes would switch sides and such. ;)
Im still going to try it though :D

Zivon23

                  Jayden Endicott

Jayden was born in the year 2032.  Both his parents were active veterans in a group called The League of the Emerald Lanterns. The Father, a high ranking decorated officer, was stationed in the Pegasus Galaxy; The Mother was in transet to her new post, also the Pegasus Galaxy. Realizing she would not make it to her post, she chose to stop at the closest planet.  Known to the League as the third body of Sol, she landed in a small town in upstate New York called Endicott.

Unbeknownst to her, New York was a totalitarian government run state.  The High Chanceller ruled with an Amber Power Ring and a powerful army.  Decades earlier, The High Chanceller introduced the 'Mutant Reclaimation Project'.  The project was designed to take mutants and re-educate them to fit into society.  However, the real purpose of the program was to 'recruit' mutants into a government sanctioned Enforcement Squad.  Upon gaining the mutant designation, the mutant had one of two choices: Serve in the Enforcement Squad, or be executed for Treason or Acts of Sedition.  Needless to say, the general mutant populous began hiding thier true nature.  In retaliation, the High Chanceller began utilizing a 'willing' mutant with the ability to generate any technology he could envision in his mind.  He forced the mutant to betray his own kind by making a mutant detector.  All mutants were apprehended immediately upon detection.  Hundreds of thousands were executed in the name of 'justice'.

During birth, complications arose due to her unique physiology and she died during childbirth.  However, with her last breath, she spoke the name of her son, Jayden.  Without any known relitives, Jayden was placed in the custody of the Government.  Upon birth, Jayden set off the detector and agents were sent to retrieve the new born.

The High Chanceller, thrilled with finding a new born, started a new program.  The High Chanceller made the 'Creator' modify his original detector design to detect the possibility of mutancy at birth.  Taken from birth, the mutant would be trained in the arts of war and eventually, the use of thier abilities.  The program was designed to create the ultimate army with which the Chanceller would then begin to expand his rule throughout the states.  This new secret program was named Project: Unity.  Focusing on the desensitisation of death and carnage, the new recruits were 'brainwashed' into becoming soulless soldiers.  Soldiers that had no remorse, no conscience, no regrets; living only to serve the High Chanceller.  Those soldiers that were not up to standards were executed without a second thought.  Failure, in any form,  was met with death.  Only those who were strong enough survived to become the elite army the High Chanceller demanded.

Jayden, being born with the natural energies of the League of the Emerald Lantern, began to silently question the motives of his benifactors.  Knowing, without knowing, that what he was being trained for was inherently wrong, Jayden developed his own psyche.  One that was not controlled by the training of the program.  He developed a sense of right and wrong and knew the Government training was wrong.  The seeds of rebellion were born the day he was instructed to shoot through a civilian to kill an enemy soldier on the firing range.  Soon after Jayden's 17th birthday, he graduated from the program and was given his own squad, an elite force of his own choosing.  He chose soldiers that he knew questioned the government.  Ones that, eventually, he believed would side with him and not The High Chanceller.  His Squad consisted of four members.  Gabriel Anders, known as Vault due to his strength and duribility.  Addison Scott, the computer genius of the group; codename: Hacker.  Mitchell Hearst, Matrix, can see the geometric outcome of any event.  Lastly, a female known only as Tangent, is the groups transportation due to here extreme teleportation abilities.  Under the leadership of Jayden, the group quickly becomes the High Chanceller's favored team.  Sent on missions no other team could do, Jayden and his squad became the elite of the elite forces.

Elsewhere, the Creator, growing regretful with age, secretly began forming a group of resistance fighters.  Supplying them with any technology needed, he becomes the unofficial leader of the resistance.  Knowing that what he has done his entire life was wrong, Creator decided to make a time machine that is keyed only to Jayden and his squad's genetic codes.  Approaching Jayden, the Creator reveals the existance of the resistance, and asks Jayden to help change the timeline that he has grown up in.  Jayden accepts the 'mission'.

Deciding that stopping the High Chanceller's rise to power was the best way to stop this future and rectify the Creator's actions, Jayden was to be sent back to the year 2000.  However, during the time transfer, troops loyal to the High Chanceller stormed the facility where the Creator was and destroyed the machine.  Believing the Creator was dead, The High Chanceller began using his forces to hunt down any of the resistance and slaughter them.   As a result of the troops intervention, Jayden appeared in Endicott, year unknown, and without any memory of the future events or his mission to change things.  Knowing only who he is and what he can do, Jayden takes on the alias of Jayden Endicott and sets forth to do what he believes is right.

               An unknown superhero is born.

http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/Zivon23/?action=view&current=Zivon23_gl.jpg

Nothing is truely know of Zivon23's past.  Most documented historical notes are only rumered to be true.  It is believed that Zivon23 is an American Indian desended possibly from the Hopi tribes of the lower mid west region of the United States.  What is known as fact is that Zivon23 has the ability to fly at speeds in excess of Mach 2 and can fly, without external equipment, into space.  He has demonstrated the ability to speak the native language of any Amer-Indian he has met, and has a limited amount of superstrengh and invulnerability.  It is speculated that his strength and duribility are a direct result of the body's modifications for highspeed flight.  It is unknown how Zivon23 gained his powers, but he is documented as not being a mutant.  It is also unknown exactly how Zivon23 obtained a Green Lantern ring, but it is rumer that it was given to him while he was exploring the Cosmos.

I hope you all like these little bios.  Blame Murs47 for the length of the first one..... He created the skin based off of my original design and told me the bio needed to be longer.  Zivon23's skin is just a quick recolour of my new skin I personally did called 'Zivon23_Modern'.

Questions and Comments always wanted.

The only reason I liked the idea of creating unrelated avatars instead of using our FR avatars is because this is the DC universe, and an FR/DC crossover just seems...plain weird.  I know some people on here would be all for the idea, but then each of our FR avatars would be bringing THEIR powers over to the DC universe ALONG with the powers of the ring of whatever faction they join.  Eek.  I prefer the idea of us creating new, DC universe Corps-avatars.  That way, everyone is pretty much equally balanced.  We're all just fodder in a large scale war.   :D  And hey, we may be lucky enough to get mashed up by one of the big-name DC heroes themselves.

Still, I can see where your coming from.  It would be interesting to see who would go with who.

deanjo2000

Makes more sense now i can see how that would work better :)

The Hitman

I'm not quite done yet, but I have a question to youalls. Do you think it'd be too much if I added a particle emitter to the "ring hand" and had a bunch of tiny GL symbols flying out?

Cyber Burn

I took the .psp file that FLASH sent me with the skin for my Av and edited it so that it would be a Green Lantern Uniform.   Won't be for release and he's given me permission to do whatever I want with anything he sends me so please don't yell too much for this kit bash.

Ink's Kyle rayner Classic has a particle emitter already on it.  So a part emit isn't a bad idea... heck..I say go for it.  If the concept calls for it then do it.

David "Jail Hop" Figueroa

David Figueroa was in and out of prison more than anyone else in his hood. After his last visit to prison, David decided to create his own lowlife gang. He made sure it was only the meanest and deadliest Boricua's1 in his barrio2.

During his hunt he meant a girl. When he first saw her he knew he had found his soul mate and would some day marry her. Her captivating green eyes, and innocence drew him towards her. The two soon fell deeply in love, and everyday she begged him to leave his gang before he was killed.

But fate was a twisted being. During a stroll with his girl, David heard gun shots being fired. It was no other than "El Maton" shooting at his gang. David told the girl to stay behind, but she cried for him not to go. David took out his gun to fire, but El Maton fired first. Moving as quick as he could, he barely avoided being killed. The bullet seared through his right arm with a numbing pain.

Dropping to the floor grasping his right arm, David let out a silent scream. He lay there for minutes, until his assailant drove off. David watched slowly as a stream blood trickled by his head. He then realized that he had been shot in the arm, not his head. His heart dropped as he slowly staggered up. It was not his blood, but the blood of the women he held so dear to his heart.

David began shouting and cursing the world, as streams of tears poured down his face. It was the first time he cried since he was 5. Not even when he saw his father murdered in cold blood did he cry. David quickly swept away his tears, deeming them useless. David yelled out to the heavens to give him a chance to get even, and sure enough, they replied. A green ring had fallen into his hands, given him powers beyond his wildest dreams. He vowed from that day on to protect those weaker than him, and to have vengeance on El Maton.

Power Usage:
David uses his powers to defend those around him, often putting himself in danger while shielding others. He also has a few short range beam attacks.

I think the glowing tattoo is rather neat.

The biggest surprise for me is that he's a member of the GL corps...this guy looks like one hardcase mother-...

Awsome, though.  Just awesome.
