In the installation procedures included in FFX 2.6 there was mention of making backup files.

* The following files will be overwritten. Back them up to another directory:
o Data/fx.dat (modified by EZ FX)
          o Data/objects.dat
          o Data/characters.dat
          o Data/res.dat
          o Data/powers.dat
          o Data/attributes.dat
          o Data/Lang/English/strings.txt
          o Data/Lang/English/strings.dat
          o Data/Missions/Scripts/cshelper.py
          o Data/Missions/Scripts/sk.py
o Data/Missions/Scripts/aff.py (from the EZ Danger Room)

I was able to merge the dat files using FFedit. I already know the aff.py file for the EZ Danger Room. My question is what is this cshelper.py file for and sk.py file for? After backing up these files, do i need to copy /overwrite them back to their original folders after installing FFX? Would there be a problem if i did copy them back? Why is there a need to backup those  2 files?

You don't need to copy back the original python (.py) files once you have FFX installed. Just back them up in case you need to remove FFX for whatever reason. (That's the only time you're likely to want to copy them back.) FFX makes some changes to those files when it installs, so you don't want to copy the originals back as FFX needs the modified ones.

I see. Thanks for patiently answering this newbie's questions. The reason why i was tempted to copy the originals files back was because somehow FFX doesn't seem to be working right. For now, i can see no effect the new attributes have on the characters. Doc Sensation doesn't shape change into his two forms (namely stretch and the blob form).Battery Powered Kalinka still regenerates energy. Am i missing something in the installation procedure? Will try to search for some threads here about this topic. :banghead:

Make sure you are using the FFX shortcut.  The regular FF shortcut will have the effects that you described.

Coolness Cat!  Now that's what i am talking about. Now that Doc Sensation can shape shift,he can really kick butt!  Thanks Cat!  ^_^

If you like Doc Sensation, updated version of him, and many of the other sample characters, are featured in Tales of the Navigator.

Thanks for that info Cat. Checked the website. Must say, some pretty creative stuff there. Characters, story background and all. Can't wait to try them out. So many mods....so little time.

The Strangers and Tales of the Navigator are both HIGHLY recommended.  Strangers if fairly hard, though, but worth it.

Appreciate the recommends Cat.  :) I also checked The Strangers Mod background a bit when i looked for Tales of the Navigator. Seems interesting enough but the characters are a bit "Strange"  :P or rather spooky. I'll go give it a second look. ^_^

Rather low on memory in my C drive though. So i was trying to move my Freedom Force Folder with the FFX to my D drive. Problem is, when i try to change the path location of the FFX shortcut to my D drive, it gives me an access denied message.  :o

the shortcut may be read-only...meaning you'd have to uncheck that box in its properties
