I have a service that I sell subsriptions to and I want to advertise this service to players of MMORPGs. I don't want to go into their forums and start spaming advertisments. I thought about placing ads in some of the gaming magazines but the cost of running ads in those are very expensive. What do you think would be a good way to reach these people? By the way the service is in my signature.

I understand banner ads are fairly cost effective.  No real idea what kinds of sites you'd want to target, but perhaps some of the private fan sites might support banner advertising.

Good idea, thanks for your input. I was worried that I might piss off some people here by even asking this question. Didn't want to look like I was advertising here, that would be spamming in my opinion.

Also, some of the smaller, free mmorpgs which support themselves through advertising would be fairly inexpensive, although I have no idea how cost effective that would be.

Also you can try blogging about the service and about stuff in general and put that on search engines + post a link. My website used to see very few hits but once I started re-posting some of it's content as a blog I went like form 20 hits to 2000.
