And I won't buy one till they can guarantee it won't crap out to the red ring of death 5 minutes in. They best have that fixed before GTA4 drops. I bought a PS2 because of Vice City, GTA4 will be the only reason I buy a next-gen system that isn't a Wii.

I'm fairly certain that there'll be a PS2 version of Rock Band.

Guitar Hero 3 will be out for the PC.  You can rock out on that.

UnfluffyBunny

@ daerdevil... GET BOTH! :P

was looking at some picsa of this, and is it me... or does the guitar have 10 buttons??? :O
* UnfluffyBunny drools

I believe there is a second set of fret buttons low on the neck, for your guitar solo.  Not sure if you need to worry about 10 frets, it's probably just to give it that "Ultimate Air Guitar" feel!  And yeah, I'll end up w/ both GH III and Rock Band!  In the meantime, there's always FoF.

Gah... I want the drum set sooooo bad... It looks so cool...

Unfortunately, I don't have the money for a 360 and Rock Band. Oh well.

captainspud

You could rob a bank.

Or beat up some old ladies and take their purses.

Old ladies carry a lot of cash these days.

daerdevil

No, I'm not obsessed with this whole Rock Band/GHIII phenomena...

Alright, here's the dilemna.  I think I'm going to wait on the GHIII, because my buddy's getting it, but what do I do about Rock Band?  I only have a lowly PS2, and I can't wait to get Rock Band for it!  But the PS3 and 360 versions are going to have downloadable content including the entire "Who's Next?" album from the WHO!  I doubt I can shell out the $500 for a real 360 and then another $160 for Rock Band (not to mention all of the 360 games I've been missing out on at $40-60 a pop).  Arrgh... why is this so stressful?

Oh yeah, the extra 5 fret buttons on the RB guitar are going to be used for HO/POs (sorta like how GH plays with the regular PS2 controller-- no strumming necessary).

They also mention that the 360 will once again have downloadable content including the Who's album "Who's Next", Metallica's "One", and 13 songs by the Grateful Dead.

Gotta say if the premise of this game hadn't already hooked me then this track list has.

daerdevil

Thanks for the setlist, and I agree, the song selections are awesome.  There's a lot of GH Fanboys that are poo pooing the setlist on other sites, but I'm impressed.  I just can't wait to play The Police - Next to You... never thought I'd see that in a video game.  Can we say pre-order?

On another note (no pun intended), allegedly Best Buy will be having instore demos of Rock Band starting today.  I'll have to check this out.

Bummer...no RB demo at Best Buy, but they had stacks of GH3 bundles.

detourne_me

weird coincidence, i was actually listening to Chood and Cambria as i read this.  Excellent setlist.  the name Rock Band suits it well.  although i wouldn't of minded some Duran Duran.

love suffragette city though :D   is this going to come out for PC too?

UnfluffyBunny

not quite off topic, in relevance to DD's last post

they put back the release date of GH3 here by a month >_>

daerdevil

Not to rub it in Unfluffy Bunny's face, but Rockband is 2 days away for me, and I've gotten clearance to buy a shiny new xbox360 to accompany it!  There appears to be some PS3 shenanigans w/ guitar controller compatiblity, so Micro-scam is getting my $.  It appears that the DLC is just way too exciting to pass up on by getting the PS2 version.  Now I'm stuck doing the lineup on release day for RB, and the dreaded Black Friday ordeal for my xBox 360 w/ GHII bundle (need that second guitar).

UnfluffyBunny

GH3 still isnt out here till friday -_-

So, does anybody have this game yet, or has anybody played the demo anywhere?

The singer has to use the mic as a cowbell during this song. ;)

Me and the roommates got it, and it is mother-flippin' phenomenal. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm need to do some drumming..

Spent...uh...I don't even wanna guess the amount of hours playing this today, as well as plenty more since a buddy got it shipped in a couple weeks back. Gotta say, it is surprisingly fun. Can't drum to save my life, and can't carry a tune very well on most of the songs (Flyleaf....yeah, that chick needs a good swift kick in the throat) but get 4 people together and some beers and you can kill a day if you want, heh. Though I think the bass on Run to the Hills on just medium gave me enough carpal tunnel to last a lifetime. Also got to thank the game for introducing me to Coheed and Cambria. Loves me some decent prog rock.

Only problem, apparently the first round of guitars is defective, and since the game wasn't released in Canada yet when we got it getting a new guitar is damn near impossible. Thankfully, Guitar Hero guitars work fine.

So ya, from a guy who ridiculed the entire idea of these games, as a solo game I'd say buying this is asinine, just go out and buy a real guitar if you have that much time to kill. But as a party game, hard to find anything that compares short of wii sports or something. The music alone is worth a good chunk of the price.

From what I heard "Legands of Rock and Roll" is a whole lot better.

On CNN they told of one man who was out christmas shopping for his son paid $90.00 for it, later that day as he walked inside his home with it he caught his son with his friends smoking pot in the house. As punishment not only did his son not get the game and it was then auctioned on Ebay where it sold at over $9,000.00

Pff, 2 guitars versus 2 guitars and a drumset and a microphone? I'll take the one that involves more people.

And if I remember right that auction turned out to screw the old man over or something.
