Converting meshes

I know that we can convert meshes from  :ff: to  :ffvstr:, but is there any way to do the opposite? Specifically I want to be able to use Renegade's new meshes, but I don't own  :ffvstr:.

Until one of the following events transpires, the answer is, AFAIK, no:

1) You get a copy of 3ds max, the FF1 exporters, and Renegade's .max files.

2) NIFSkope learns how to save to a version that differs from the original NIF (e.g., saving a NIF v.10.1.0.0 (FFvTTR) as NIF v.4.0.0.2 (FF1)).

Well, ow_tiobe_sb was right but if you can convince Renegade to export them for :ff:

Funny, I tried this months ago using the first version of nifskope.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Guess I'll have to hit the online stores to find myself a copy since no one around here carries it anymore.

There are a few more options (I posted them before, but it accidentally got deleted) but neithor is that preferable, and you still need Ren's permission for eithor.

3. Use the Niftools plugins to import them and re-export them as FF1 meshes. It's generally frowned upon for most meshes, but as long as you aren't using them to modify his work Ren MIGHT be ok with it. Don't be suprised if he isn't though, because importing meshes is considered very bad form.

4. For the skopers (doesn't apply to your request, but just to throw it out there) there IS a obj export in nifskope. with a proper set of importers, and you can use the niftools exporters to have the pieces FF1. Again, it's a type of importing, so check with Ren before you try anything.

But even then, I didn't think that the current versions of Niftools plugins support Biped Character animation on import, nor properly export the animations even if you could get them. So while you could get the mesh itself, it would basically be a statue on export (but a statue in FF format)**

Seems like paying the $5 for FFvTR is way easier.

**Unless the importers/exporters have been radically improved -- in which case, nevermind, nothing to see here..move along..

It does keep the attachments though, so even though you wouldn't have Ren's awesome animations, you would have meshes that worked with other keyframe sets.

Buy FFvTTR.

Have FFvTTR. Still play the original most. More maps, more FX, and I like the look and feel better myself.

I do like some of the new functionality of the new game, but the power system stinks and I prefer the less over-the-top "cartoony" look of the original. Plus not enough personal time to do the massive number of map conversions and FX transfers to get the new game on par with the old.

Gogglespizanno helped tremendously with his conversion map mod, but some of my favorite and most used maps still are not available. If conversions of the maps on FXForce come out, as well as a more robust FX pack, the M25 ai generator in FFvTTR may be enough to switch me to the new game.

Hey Thanks!

I revived my original map pack post in the Mods section with a call out for maps you want to see converted and help with contacting original map makers to get permissions. People occasionally bring up more maps for FFvTR and it lights a small fire under me to keep pressing on with updating more of them.
